Scarab #157 found and rescued!

Recommended Posts

Hello All!

my name is Peter and this is my first post on hybridz. I am very excited to let everyone know that i have found and purchased original Scarab #157. I have lots of pics and a couple videos that i will be posting within the next day or to. There is so much documentation that came with this car it's crazy! The Scarab is a 2 owner that was located in Calfornia up to 1990 when the original owner sold it to a the second owner who lived in Minnesota. The second owner then moved to Milwaukee, Wi in 1997.

The plan is to do a 100% restoration on the car. The car does come with the whale tail, it's just not on the car in the pics from when i picked it up. I will post more about the car over the next few days.

Let the fun begin!

The car was also featured in the book "Z-Car Enthusiast Guide". The car came with an original signed copy from the author Ben Millspaugh. Here are some of the pics of the car in the Z-Car book. The original owner of the car Wayne Graham from San Jose, California provided the pics of the car. You can also see in one of the pics that the author references Wayne Graham's license plate that somehow says it all

"Scarzme". This pic is of the original plate from the car that also came with the car. I have original DMV documents that show the vin # of the car and the registration of the personalized plate "SCARZME"

Here is a pic of the car in May of 1979 before it was converted. Along with the original Scarab order sheet for this car. The other pics are of a original Scarab order blank and the hand written letter to Wayne from a woman at Scarab telling him about his I.D. plate for the car.

Original 1980 Scarab catalog. As i continue to sort through all the stuff that came with the car, i will post pics.

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! To answer the question about the availability of reproduction fenders. As far as i know, i do not know of any reproduction fenders or body kits in this style, but perhaps scarab 155 can chime in with any info regarding the fenders or bodykit.

I will say that i have been approached by at least a handful of people so far that have asked if i was to make molds of the body kit during the restoration, that they would love to buy one for there car. What do you guys think? Would anyone have any interest in a complete body kit for there "Z"?

I mentioned the idea to my partners on this project and if there was enough people interested in the body kits, we would strongly consider it. If we did reproduce them from an original Scarab, i'm thinking we gotta go carbon fiber!
