Diff is not welded, running a vlsd in a long nose R200. It seemed to work ok, the engine never tried to overspeed, and it felt the same when I got home(20mi)as when I left the strip. I will have to check it with the cover off to see if any damage occured to the Vlsd due to driving without an axle.

Got some new equipment to install, a "Whale Tail" and a new "Fuel Safe" fuel cell. This cell is legal for any sanctioning body in the country. and is required for the events I hope to run.

The fuel cell is has a 15 gal. capacity and has a sending unit installed. I picked it up at the factory in Redmond, Oregon. The staff there were very helpful and I would highly recommend them and there products.

I was not to sure if I liked the look of the whale tail at first, but the more I look at it, the better I like it.

Here are some pics.

Damn right! That tail looks good!

Can you tell me where can i find those door mirrors? thankz.

Hows it going Ryan? I don't know if it functions any better at that position, but I do think it looks a little better there. Without a rear bumper, it really seems to hang to far to the rear. One disadvantage is that the hatch button is not accessable in this position. I will just make a simple latch extention to remedy this.

PR280z, The mirrors are off of a 1982 Suzuki GS1100GK touring bike. They will be very hard to replace if lost or damaged.

I have been installing a new Fuel Cell. I still have to build the can to set it in. I also need to figure out a good way to run my fuel and vent lines lines.

As soon as I get this finished up, I will move on to rear a-arm mods.

Here are some pics.

I would love to do a fuel cell, except they are so darn expensive! I modified my stock fuel tank, but I can tell you that if I were to do it all over again I would do a fuel cell.

Looks good John!

PS: Did you find a way to seal out your strut towers with your new rear suspension yet?

Here are some more pics of the latest mods.

The fuel cell is almost ready to get its lid(waiting for a fitting). I am using aluminum Diamond plate for the can and cover. I also went with another piano hinge latch assy.

I have also fabbed up a couple of new rear A-Arms. The originals weighed a ghastly 18 lbs. each.

The new ones come in at 9 lbs. I modified the way the shock attaches by using an adjustable push rod,to a center link, then to the shock. I can change the push rod length, and the lower shock mounting position to change the way the spring rate rises. The center link may be modified for adjustable length at a later date.

The rear susp. will be sealed using the legs from a neoprene wet suit as flexable seals. Wet suit was purchased on E-bay for $5. I love E-bay!!

Got a few more pics of the Z's progress.

It is back on the ground and needs to be aligned. I will need a dry day so that I can line it up. I refuse to work in the rain if I can avoid it.

One new item is an accumulator that I installed under the hood. It also got a 4 wheel set of Porterfield R4S pads.

I also redid the exhaust system, so it now has both pipes out the left side, fuel pumps were mounted on the right where the muffler was before.

I built my own Filter/surge tank using parts from NAPA. I added a -6 fitting to the top to use as a return to the tank.

Anyway here is some pics.

Forgive the welding on the pipes, I could not find my glasses.

Will be racin soon! WOOWHO!!

Hi Ryan,

the fuel pumps are a Holley type primary and a Ford electric pump from a PU as the secondary. Pump noise does not seem to bad but I have yet to drive it.

I rerouted the exhaust to gain room for the fuel pumps and filter. The Fire Safe Cell is also larger than the old Harwood cell that was in it before.

I reused the existing muffs by stacking them and welding them together. It worked out pretty well. I need to fab up a finishing piece for the rear Valance panel.

Awesome build John!! Started reading on the first page could not stop until the end. I'm rebuilding a 260z myself and had a couple of questions 1)Where did you buy your flares? 2)what are the measurements of your wheels (offset)and where did you buy them?

Thanks

keep up the great work and hope to see more pics soon

Got a video of my Son driving the Z in our first hillclimb.

I have competed in a variety of different events, and I belive this was the most enjoyable.

The engine was running very rich, and you can hear it go flat near the end. Altitude was 5000 feet, and the carb was originally set for sea level.

I had to lean it 5 jet sizes and it was still too rich, but much improved. My Wide band refused to work so I was guessing.

Mongo Where did you get the parts for this rear suspension! I've read the whole way through and this is a fascinating design to me that I'd like to try and replicate and alter a bit. I'd like to talk to you more about your design if you don't mind. Do you order from aerospace parts catalogs or something? I know you did the custom welding I was mainly meaning the bolts, nuts, eye bolts and such. I'd love to talk to you more about all this some time!

Oh wow, did you perchance trailer it to and from the Packwood autocross in 2010? If so, I believe you may have been the inspiration for my purchase of the Z. I went with a friend for a later session, and he shouted at me that there was a Z about to leave, I caught just a small glimpse before it took off, but it was absolutely stunning.

Keep up the great work!
