  1. Well what differencial are you running, a r180 or an r200? if you are running an r200 the 280 should fit but you will need the hub assambly I believe, if you are running a r180 then I would just drop the whole rear end and drive shaft of the 280 and bolt it up, doing that with a zx would be more involved. If you just want a quick fix and have a r180, then I can help you. I have 280z that I recently drove and it has a r180. I am currently dismantling it to do a full paint job. I already have an r200 that I'm getting out of my junk 280. so if you are interested then email me ak.mikekim@gmail.com I'll include the hub assembly if you need it b/c of the difference in splines. you might want to get bearings though.
  2. I was reading this thread and want to try to atempt putting one in. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=94272&page=1&pp=25 I know I can get a 98 wrx steering rack from my junk yard for like $145. The site mark put up doesn't seem to work on the other thread. Does anyone have a site documenting this or something? BTW I have a 77 280z and have to do an engine swap anyways so might as well put in PS. I also have another 280z (78) that I'm parting out so I have a spare xmemeber if I screw up. If anyone wants any parts from my 78 280z, just ask and state your price, and I'll send you pic of it if I have it.
  3. Hey Trouble, does it only fit on the front or does it fit all the way around? gti coil overs on ebay go for like $80 usd for all 4. On kind of another subject Who here is running power steering? I want to put PS on my 280z. Is there a website that has this documented? Theres another thread on this using wrx PS rack and someone posted a link but it doesn't work. No one seems to be updating that thread anymore either.
  4. what about brake and calipers/drums? and have you looked here? http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=32
  5. is that a 13b engine? how much horse power are you gonna be making from that?
  6. but what if the theif has a quick release steering wheel though? LOL
  7. BTW I'm trying to set the car up for autox and drift.
  8. Well the reason I'm asking is because I got another 280z that needs some work. I drove it home and it drives like a cow. I've read some other threads and they say just to do maintainance and change out the bushings. Come to think of it, I really wouldn't be able to utilize the steering rack untill I do a zxt swap (no mount for PS pump on 280z). I've read of other people on the board doing a rack swap with a WRX. how difficult would that be and is there a website? Is the conversion really worth it?
  9. Have you look into adapting vw gti struts? I've heard that the only problem would be boring out the top hat to accomodate the larger diameter strut shaft. I don't know if it was the 240z that I've heard would fit or the 280z though. Might want to do more research though. I'm kinda in the same boat as you.
  10. I'm interested. Is it still good? how much do you want for it? How hard is it to put in? Will I have to weld it on to the cross member like the mustang adaption that I've seen before? I don't want to end up welding anything together because of maintainence purposes.
  11. I'm looking around for an aftermarket steering wheel. I know that I would have to look for a hub adapter, but whih one? Like what other cars have the same hub spine dimentions, so I can look fo that one? Its harder to look for one just by using 280z to go on.
  12. For me, I think that when the rocker panels start to rust through is when the car is a lost cause. Replacing rocker panel properly on a unibody car is VERY difficult because you have to deal with the body flexing AFTER you remove then and then get them back to the way you had then. I know you're suppose to brace the car, but if I'm gonna do that I might as well weld in a roll cage and the it would be difficult to do repairs in certain areas. (never like doing the same twice)
  13. Oh forgot to ask if a 280zx PS would work on a 77 280z?
  14. Does anyone have a website where they document the power steerign conversion? does it have to be a wrx rack or can you use any impreza rack? I just go another 280z and want to do this conversion before I put it back together. the link from before doesn't work.
  15. There are 3 legal ways around emmissions in AK. One is to do an engine swap. Another is to go carb. The last is to get a summertime onlt pass (good for 2 years) If I do an engine swap from a car thats a 96 or newer I can register it as a kitcar and emmissions don't apply on kitcars. Summertime only pass is what it sounds like. From I think April to I think october or novermber.
  16. Well sorry b__sosick but I usually am on the forums at 2 in the morning and am usually to tired to do a grammer check.
  17. the s/c is a screw type (short nose traditional type, not like the newer ones that look lik modified turbos). Iskone its kinda hard to explain but it a variable geometry type turbo. You might want to google it because I think I would just confuse you and myself in the process. The best to simplify it is; suppose you have a hose with only enought water coming out and then you put your thumb over the end , because of the pressure build up, it will have to come out of a smaller opening at a greater speed with about the same amount of water. The v/g valve thing is the supposed thumb that helps the turbo spool up faster and its adjustable (variable). The turbo came out of a 2002 dodge 2500.
  18. 4everdatsun you are forgetting that the reason why you can get high performance by using carbs than the EFI system is the cursed EGR (emmissions gas recirculation) valve and the rest of the emmissions crap. It would be easier to pass emmissions with going carb, than going megasquirts. I'll be surprised if you can get by emmisions if you took off all the emmissions crap on there w/o paying somebody at the testing facility.
  19. WHy is the P90 head more sough after then the other heads? Its just impression that it is. I know why a turbo block is (added internal strength than the l28e) but why the head? Is it the compression or is it that almost everybody does a L28et swap and just happen to have the p90 head to work with?
  20. Don't you need to use KA (or SR) connecting rods? You DON"T want your piston and valves to EVER touch (obviously) putting stock c/r on a stroker crank is bound to go wrong. Also with a strocker setup the head gasket also contributes to how much compression it will make. Personally I wouldn't turbo any engine with a compression higher than at most 8.5:1. Getting a turbo setup to work reliably with a stroker would cost to much time and money. Although it would work if you went he cheap route, but not for very long. I know the first thing to go would be the harmonic balancer if it wasn't balanced properly. low rpms would be fine if it wasn't balanced but at the upper rpms is when all the fun starts and thing start breaking.
  21. I have a 280z in bad shape and Stony here on the boards is wanting to buy my car. He says that he want it so he can practice doing body work. Now theres a 280z with a really good body (a whole lot better than my body.) thats going for like $500. Stony wants to buy my car for $300 which is fine by me but the other 280z is a automatic (which is a no no), the one I have is a 5 speed. He offered to trade me an used Blitz skyline GTR intercooler core in trade for my car. He says it retails for $1500 (whole kit) and I went to the website and thats about right, He said I could sell it for like $600 on ebay. Now thats my dilema, How long will it take for me to sell it, at that price or even higher (not much higher). I could probably haggel the price of the car that I want down to maybe $400. Now do I take the cash or take the intercooler? Keeping in mind about when I can get cash from the intercooler. I told him that I want the 5 speed box. SO I don't know what to do. I posted this in the L6 forums but I didn't realise that I only posted there.
  22. Heard back from stony and he said its just the core because it came out of a r31 with custom tubing.

  24. Then how do I route the pumbiing? do I put the intercooler before the AFM or after, on the EFI system? I now I need to get a boost controller and other things. How much boost can a the 280z l28 take? I might have 2 L28s so if I screw up on one I have the other one, just in case.
  25. Is it a l28e? I know compression on these engines aren't the problem for internals compression b/c for the 280Zs I know it was 8.X . I might have an extra L28e with auto trans if anyone it interested.
