  1. Or does the pilot bushing press into the flywheel?
  2. How are you going to deal with the pilot bushing? Does the crankshaft on the VH45 have a provision for one?
  3. IMHO you can't compare the two. Sorta like apples and hand grenades. The only experience I have with the AFR 210s is in my boss' Nova. 385ci SBC. 600 lift custom hyd. roller cam, 8.7:1 cr, ATI Progarger D1SC. HAven't dynoed yet with this combo, but dynoed with P1SC, made 604hp @9psi @5800rpm at the rear wheels. That's when the belt started slipping. It was set up to run 14psi. We disconnected the blower and it still made 474 at the rear wheels, I think @ around 6900rpm. Those heads flow awsome.
  4. I live in CT. Try Greenleaf Automotive or ABC used auto parts, I think they are the same company. One of the largest auto recyclers in the country. Owned by FOMOCO.
  5. In regards to my last post about my real bad stumble. I figured it out. And I feel really stupid. I made some wood carb spacers. It's an old hot rodder trick that I thought would work for me. Only I never sealed the wood. I used maple because the grain was nice and tight, and because it would smell good if it caught fire! Well...I have a nice vacuum leak right behind the carbs. That would explain my problems.
  6. Hey all. I've been trying to get the heap running for a while now, to get it on the road before I decide it's fate. It just has a nasty stumble right off idle. I'm not really sure where my timing is since I don't think I have the right pointer (I'm using the euro damper on a F54). I know that sounds retarded, but it's the truth. I sorta timed it by ear. It sounds like it wants more timing, but the dizzy is maxed out. Okay before I sound like a total moron, here's the lowdown. '82 F54 flat top bottom end-stock, P90 head shaved .070 (I know it should be .080, but the machine shop could only come up with .070 shims), schneider 480/274 cam installed straight up, 280ZX dizzy, Crane HI6 w/ PS92 coil, Dellorto 40's, Motorsport 6 into 2 header, no exhaust now, just a supertrap on collector. Any ideas? Carbs are synced, float levels look good, fuel pressure at 4.5 psi. It runs rich as all get out. Idles OK, rips past 2500, anything in between is crap, pops through carbs, out exhaust. NOT MUCH FUN!
  7. Is the Toyota 1uzfe a better choice than the vh45? I know there is a lot of aftermarket support for the 1uz in Australia. Is one better than the other?
  8. Thanks a lot. I'm still in the baby stages of this. I'm getting the VH soon, I'll take it apart and see if this thing scares me at all. The way I look at it is that it can't be that much more complicated than anything else, once all the accesories are removed. I REALLY like the idea of a small bore, high revving V8. Like a new Jag XK or Aston. Those things make music! Any info is GREATLY appreciated, thank you very much. Brian
  9. I would appreciate that greatly. I would really like to get the VH in the Z. I'm concentrating on just getting the car on the road right now, but my ultimate goal would be the VH with a Z32 5 speed. What ecu are you going to use. Would MSNS work?
  10. Okay, it's probably blown up, but I want it just to get familiar with it. I'm still finishing my L28 project, so I'm just looking towards the future. Has anyone gotten to the engine management stage on their vh swaps yet? How about intake manifold. I tried a google search for race parts (dry sumps and such) but found nothing. Is there a solution for the front sump oil pan? Sorry for all the questions, but all the posts seem to be vague.
  11. Well, if I'm going to keep the L28, how about maybe doing a blow through turbo using my Dellortos? That would be different. I know that I'd have to either get new pistons or a turbo block. Probably new pistons since I already have a F54 block.
  12. I drive the Nova all the time. It's sick. It has a seriously built 2004R with a manual reverse valve body. You can't pull the lever for 2nd before the thing's on the rev limiter. The throttle response is insane. It has 29x18.50 Hoosier radials out back and just fries them through 1st and 2nd. The car has never been to the track ( it still has some rear susp. issues), but with the 'ol G Tech Pro, it ran a 12.40 ish with a passanger (me) and he let out of the trottle at around 80 and coasted through the rest of the 1/4. That was with blistering tire through 1st.
  13. oh yeah, I couldn't get that video to play. Any help?
  14. Well, I spent some time it tonight and actually got it running! I still have no radiator in it so I ran it for about 5 seconds of so, but it did run and idle. I'm pretty excited again. Sounds pretty nasty with no exhaust on it. I have to go do some work in Florida next week, but hopefully I'll be able to drive it around the parking lot the week after. I'll have to post some pics soon. It's hard to believe how ugly this thing has become. That's what hapens when it sits for 5 years.
  15. I do have a hold of.....uh, um ... disregard that last statement... This thing is making me crazy. I have this wildy scued peception of speed. My boss is to blame with his stinkin Nova and pushing towards the chevy camp. I guess it'll be pretty quick, the Z, with the 3:90 R200 I have, but I hate to do things twice (pretty funny to say, since I've done everything at least 5 times).
  16. I've been screwing around with this thing for the last 8 years. Well, it's been sitting for about 5 after an electrical fire. It's all re wired w/ a painless (yeah right) kit and the motor and tranny are in and almost plumbed. Now the only thing left to do is everything.
  17. How about a blow through turbo, with the dellortos? Dellorto made the carbs for the factory turbo Alfas. They sell the gasket and needle & seat for the DHLA
  18. Turbo stuff adds complexity (cost) and weight. Stupid SBC is so darn cheap and light.
  19. You guys aren't doing a very good job of talking me out of it. And yes the Nova is stupid fast.
  20. Okay, I have my new motor in... and it hits me, "do I really want to deal with this again?" I just put together a F54/P90 combo withthe head shaved & shimed, 480/274 cam, tripple dellortos, and I just lost interest. I'm seriously thinking about converting to a SBC. I've been fighting this decision for the last 8 years and I think I finally lost. I think it's because I have to look at my boss' 700hp procharged nova every day.
