  1. After you get it all together with whatever combination of suspension parts and take your first test drive....the final indicator for a correct spring solution should be the "seat of your pants" Not technically precise but an accurate assumption.
  2. my 1978 shop manual lists both a steel and aluminum wheel @ 14 X 5 1/2 inches and no turbo model offered
  3. Forrest... I start the bidding on what I want and mid way place the amount I want to pay and let it go at that....the end ....a need to rant a little .. Found out yesterday I lost a non-essential case in the 9th circuit on mootness. the government stalled so long without any defense, that by the time the issue was decided, the circuit court had no remedy for me. My option now is for circuit re-hearing en banc which will be another step to the Supreme Court. I have an essential case under advisement at the district court level that has been delayed unnecesarily for over 2 years by the government. Though the government has only frivolous defenses, they have stalled quire successfully. They tend to have trouble looking at me when I stare them in the eye.(Real self serving chicken shits that flock together for safety). In my area a new multi million $ federal couthouse is replacing another new unsafe courthouse for the protection of 3 (three) judges. about 30 million a piece. Not political just fact
  4. I can give dubious advice better than I can recieve sound advice. Enuff said about that character flaw.Get on it with Pay Pal. I have been screwing with this nice church going fellow who towed my registered 1976 280 Z off my real property without proper authorization during my two year abscence. He makes false promises while time is tolling. I am getting some action now that the vehicle is officially reported stolen with the Sheriff's Dept (which took a letter to a Captain to get the investigating officer in gear and a complaint was filed with the State fraud bureau who warned me about time running out.. The statute of limitations may have run on theft investigation and a civil suit may hang in when I discovered the theft. Get on it ...you paid for em and should have recieved the pistons. no excuse is going to fill up those cylinders.
  5. "Restraint bidding" I posted one eBay auction where a fellow paid more for a used Arizona Z 4 bbl manifold and shipping charges when he could have bought new manifold from Arizona z.. It is kind of like gambling where I like to bid on a weak or ill prepared sale and win a bargain. From your replies, I can see that my eBay realty limits required re-checking. Some folks just get up earlier than me.
  6. John: "laissez faire" bidding ?...more opinions please......maybe I should invest in a "snipe program". I happen to be replacing stolen items which seems like not only that I am paying twice for the same thing but the action bidding is not even on a level playing field. If I could pay retail, I sure would not be wasting my time on eBay. I like a bargain and will spend considerable time ferreting certain difficult for me to obtain items out on eBay that I cannot source locally.....
  7. Edelbrock is an agressive well known expanding successful company with about as good a reputation that you can find...A "hands on" early pioneering family automotive speed business that was able to survive on the reputation of their good products. Their crate engines will take the guess work out of performance engine parts and will deliver what they advertise.
  8. Chap... where are you... I assumed you were in Portland. usually the sway bars and brake boosters are larger. Oregon law has changed...all a proprty owner has to do now to get rid of a abandoned vehicle is to post a sign on the vehicle for 24 hours and call the wrecking yard for free removal.
  9. Akeizm..your approach has merits... the attrition over power method of bidding. LOL
  10. Go with what you have....... with coilovers .. you can switch to different weight springs fairly easily if you are not satisfied... 150 pound 10 inch coilover springs come up regularly on eBay..and 150 may be the ticket for your frontend since stock 280 Z springs are 103 # front and 127 # rear
  11. Hot...........Take the car out at 5:00 AM to rule out the 90+ weather we are having. There is a shield that 280 Z's have on the front frame rails to the engine to confine the air from the fan and grille area to the engine. If this is missing..you can have overheating on hot days. I should have an extra one of these shields. These shields prevent the cooler air from going under the engine. These shields were often not replaced because the bolts holding them broke off in removal.
  12. can it flutter in the wind at speed ???
  13. Rival and J please see my re-edited first post about the web site for "powersnipe" I see nothing wrong with your hands on methods of bidding but this power snipe is on automatic either winning bids or running the bids up http://www.powersnipe.com/?source=google&kw=ebayauctionsnipe
  14. LOL....L16 (1600 CC), L18 (!800 CC) and L20 (2000 CC) are all 4 cylinder overhead cam engines of the late 60's and 70's with 2 cylinders short of being a 1969-1983 Z car 6 cylinder engine on these designations L24 (2400 CC), L26 (2600 CC) and L28 (2800 CC).for example : 240 Z, 260 Z and 280 Z and 280 ZX.. besides small block Chevy engines displacing 350 cubic inch (and it's modifications and the the L head series of Datsun 4 and 6 cylinder engines (and it's modifications).( Buick V6 also).. I could care less about any other conversion engine to confuse me any further.... since it is has been quite an effort in time and money to just get a 350 Chevy in a Z.. Seems there are too many distractions and problems in accomplishing this task. Not only I have a 250 GTO project going but an unfinished Tomahawk project with a lot of stolen and missing parts plus a convertible kit with it's donar stolen http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=/392a http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/my_photos
  15. This is what I am Talking About http://www.powersnipe.com/?source=google&kw=ebayauctionsnipe I am trying to find some bargains on eBay without much success. It seems what would appear to be a good winning bid is defeated in the last few seconds if not last second by a bidder appearing at the last moment from nowhere. According to these successful bidders history, they seem to be able to place these miracle winning bids up to the last second of open bidding. A feat I cannot accomplish. One "power seller" of 4 barrel carburators has the ability to win about every low cost winning bid at the last second according to his feedback. He has a huge inventory of "BUY IT NOW" performance carbs on eBay at almost new prices. ..........................................................................Any comments, opinions or info... In searching items is there any method to weed out the professional "BUY IT NOw" crap from the individual sellers ?
  16. if the poundage is accurate, the name should not mean much since a lot of the American name brands may have the same domestic manufactuer if not foreign. I doubt if AFCO makes their own springs and Carrera is now owned by Qa1.. Ground Control may use Hypercoil etc..Eibach , BEM, Spax, Hyperco, Stock Car Products, Hal, Howe, Skunk
  17. headlights maybe a combination of turn signals, fog lights and headlights,.,.I plan to ues this set-up on my GTO project http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/my_photos
  18. The 175/200 # combo sounds fine to me. I am planning a 180/225 combo on my GTO project by mixing Carrera (now owned by Qa1) and Hypercoil front and rear. You could probably use your other hardware with suceess. I plan to use the slightly thicker 2+2 front sway bar.http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/album?.dir=8223&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/larryjohnson97438/my_photos
  19. Welcome Roy... a recent post from Grumpy Vette asked the question who was using a Cadillac engine. You should be able to find this post and others in the hybrid z "search" engine. There are alot of advantages to this conversion if you find Mr. Grump's recent post. This conversion has been done but not too well known.
  20. Treat the rust cancer with the rust converter chemical which is probably the whole key to future rust prevention. I cannot remember all the brand names for this chemical (osfoss/phosphoric acid) but I still have plenty of the chemical itself left over from a POR 15 paint purchase of which paint I never plan to use again. But I will defitely use the chemical and use rattle can paint before I use the POR 15 crap. I read our paint guru Ernie Racer X recomends zero rust.I would rely on his advice. rinse off the rust converter and paint
  21. I am re-starting after 2 years and have difficulty following a lot of the new threads...... Bo.... just hang in there there is method to these fellow's madness
  22. Dr. Horatio Jackson arrived in San Francisco from an Alaska business trip. During a meal in a San Francisco restraunt, he bet a fellow patron, that he could reach New York City in less than 90 days by automobile. Without much planning, he bought a car, hired a mechanic and set out cross country. He picked up a bull dog in Lake View, Oregon. He won the bet but never collected the wager. The time was 1903 and he became the first person to cross the North American continent by automobile in a 1903 Winton. He beat the factory sponsored teams of Packard and Oldsmobile. He was half way across the country before he knew he was in a race and declined any spnosorship from the Winton Automobile Company. Now if Dr. Jackson on a whim over a hundred years ago and without much planning can cross the continent in a 2 cylinder, 2 speed, double cluth chain driven open air 1903 Winton;....Mike you should reach your destination. If you go by the way of Lake View, Oregon, you should be able to make a 200 mile detour and come by and visit me. I will have a pot of beans on.
  23. That is a cheap parts car. Hopefully the sum of it's good parts will exceed $50.00
  24. You should not be alarmed.. One hundred years from now anthropologists will be speculating what happened at the foundry to cause this abnormality. I suspect a dyslexic foundry worker. No doubt some enterprising future scholar could base his thesis on foundry abnormaliteis in Japan during the last parts of the 20th century.. I would not use the block but would offer it for sale as a collector item on that other Datsun website for purists.http://www.zcar.com/classifieds/index.php?method=showhtmllist&list=classifiedscategory&rollid=34&fromfromlist=classifiedscategory&fromfrommethod=showhtmllist&fromfromid=3&clearoff=1& The best block would be the ZX block from 1981-83.
