You are correct, but it receives its signal from the speedometer.
-
First and foremost, do you have a stim board?
-
I've been waiting for almost 2 weeks now.

I need frame rails for my 82 Fairlady 280z 2+2 and I'm having a hard time finding them. I sent a message to Zed Findings, but never received a reply.
Help!
-
I think they mean RHD car??
That luckily doesn't look too bad as far as rust issues go. You could be much worse off.
Yeah I know he means RHD.
I know the rust isn't really bad, but it is going to require new rails.

a show car is nice but do you know what would make me scream like a little girl? a s130 lhd drift car, swap in a newer engine like the sr's and rb's mabe one of those VK45 v8s and get a nice little sponsor, do a couple Formula D rounds and you would be my #1 more than superman hero...
Yes that would be nice (and it's a RHD not LHD, I know what you meant though). But, for as hard as Fairlady's are to find around here I'd much rather get this one running properly and cleaned up for shows. Fortunately it shouldn't take much work.

Search the forum, 1 fast z has posted quite a few shots of his port work. It really is a thing of beauty and I wish he would pass on some of his secrets. There's even some pics of cross sectioned heads to show how much material you can take out where in the ports.

Yep, just make sure you pull all the lines from the top of the tank and the filler neck first...it makes things easier to pull down...No I've never had any experience doing a tank by myself and thought the lines would be easier once it was loose...nope not at all.

Those pictures make me have happy thoughts...Images of Datsuns going fast are racing through my head...

I'm all excited now I just received my 34# 14mm injectors (thanks abes!). Then I placed an order with Summit for a valve spring compressor, port and polish kit and ARP head stud set. Next I ordered a "Stage IV" Camshaft (.495/.495 Lift with 290/290 duration) and a 2mm MLS Head Gasket from MSA. Last but not least I email pallnet about one of his rails with all the trimmings for the new injectors.
Before anyone says anything about the MSA camshaft I bought it out of convenience only. If I was really taking my time here I would have sent a cam out to be reground.
YAY!!! I can't wait.

Wait, so filling it with filings from the brake lathe wasn't the way to go? lol
I figured it would be something of that nature.
Evan
No, lathe filings are fine, just not saw dust.
-
No, the pumps are virtually the same. The turbo pump is just higher volume.
-
That would be very odd. I got mine from them, but that was a couple years ago.
-
Use the turbo optical dizzy and reference the wiring diagram from the MS forum to get it wired up right.
-
Arizona Z Car for the Aluminum radiator. There's lots of options for fans, search the archives.
-
Worn bands, transmission needs a rebuild more than likely.
Just poor some saw dust in it, it'll be fine.... (joking, don't actually do that)
-
The head is off and I'm buying parts. Things have been very slow with this build, but I have a very good excuse, my son Jayden was born on May 15th. I'm picking up a porting kit from Summit with my ARP head studs and I'll update when I start on the porting.

Definitely need more info on what distributor and how it's connected.

Here's a gem of advice that you NEED to know:
The dash lights read as a ground when they're not on. Get a proper wiring digram for your model Z and pay attention to wire colors. I've ran into two Z's so far that someone had wired the dash lights to ground and couldn't figure out why they didn't have any parking/dash lights after the stereo install.
-
Well if you want reliable go with the high volume pump. Reliability costs and I always go with a high volume oil pump if I have the option.
-
There's a slot wheel and optical sensor in the speedometer for the cruise control. It's a basic pulse sensor so I would assume it could be used for another gadget.
-
i say screw the car, its automatic
who needs LHD anyway
no, just kidding, if you ask me(i have a leak problem)out of sight out of mind
Actually I was hoping this car would eventually be my show car. Out of site out of mind doesn't work for me. If I know it's there it ill irritate me until I fix it.
-
Sounds good, but lets see if he comes through.

With sds I use the white. When I was running off the stock elc dist, I used the purple/green wire on msd. My dist had two pickups. If you have 4 wires, it sounds like you have two pickups also. You only need two wires from one of them. Make sure you don't use one wire from each or it won't work.
His dist is not a dual pickup like the 280Z, it's an optical from a turbo. He showed a pic.
no tach signal?

Get a stim board. A multi meter will tell you where the power is at, a stim board will tell you if the triggers are working and much more.
