  1. I've got the center section from an 82 vette that is being fitted to my 240z not a whole lot of work to be done I'm coping a buddies 73 that has the center from a 79 vette (same as an 82 but steel) next time I have it in the air I'll try to snap some pix. Basicly you cut the arms down to the same width as the datsun mustach bar take the 2 bolts that hold the stock cross bar and use them to hold a peice of C channel to the body. then cross bolt the vette unit into place. the halfshafts can then be shortened by a very competant(sp?) fab shop. I've also toyed with the idea of machining a groove into the back of a steel unit and welding a datsun cross bar into the groove and using the stock hardware. the aluminum units were only used on the 1980-1982 models the early cars were steel.
  2. I've been using heli-coils for quite some time with great results you can stack them for a greater depth of thread engagement
  3. Well I must answer to what seems to have become a hot topic the fitting of the vette diff came from a friend of mine from texas we had cut down a the vette rear and left the bushings facing fore-to-aft, fit a chunk of c-channel pulled the two vertical bolts that held the mustach bar into place bolted the c-channel up to the frame then bolted the diff to the c-channel I'll write a tech sheet on this as soon as I get some time (summer is tough for me wife wants things done to the house I want to play with my toys and race cars)

I had one built for my rx-7 at the local drive shaft shop no probs at all I just gave them my old one with the fragged u-joints and picked up the alum one later that day the even put in bigger spicer joints and charged my about 200 bucks and I really like it it seems to spin up a lot faster. ------------------ rx7260z@yahoo.com Speed Power Performance& Style. The half shafts have yet to be built but they will be comprised of a floating tripod with a datsun outer end and gm inner. they are most likley be built by denny's drive shaft or currie enterprises. I'll try to post som pics as soon as I learn how (I can spin a wrench but not much else). ------------------ rx7260z@yahoo.com Speed Power Performance& Style. What else is there?

I have to build a new trans for my z I am running a 383 with a 3.08 posi diff from an 82 vette and have 26" tall tires I work in a trans shop and have been assured by our head builder that we can build a unit that will handle all the torque I can throw at it. 14. Paint is cheap. Quaility is pricy when I had my car blasted it was about $600 and that was with me removing the trim and chrome I could have taken it to MACCO for a cheap and quick paint job for about $700 (this would be fine for a race car or a street car that won't go to shows) I ended up paying almost $5000 for a show car paint with NO orange peel top of the line PPG paint with some cutom flames and pinstripes I'm sure you can find a happy medium that will fit your needs and budget. ------------------ rx7260z@yahoo.com Speed Power Performance& Style. 15. If we are comparing guns here I cast my vote towards the best gun I ever owned the IR 2131 I use this plastic ulta-light gun every day (I'm also a tech and do a lot of suspension work) It blows my shops lead techs gun away and he paid much more for it. It's even got some major nuts off that used to require my 3/4" gun. ------------------ rx7260z@yahoo.com Speed Power Performance& Style. What else is there?
