  1. The antifreeze is what keeps it from freezing the pressure cap is what raises the bioling point of the water/coolant mix straight water has a better heat transfer rate than a 50/50 mix but will corrode very quickly I've always left the water in until I was positive there were no leaks and I had heat cycled the engine a few times (average was about 4 days) then I drain and add the mix with a dose of RED LINE water wetter. Hope this has helped.
  2. The first question is easy, The motor has been out for approx. 2 yrs she now is in the chassis shop I'll get her back on the 31st the motor is still on the stand I'm waiting on a cam from lunati The trans was completed about 3 weeks ago The corvette irs is almost ready for install The wiring harness has been made ( I cobbeled a painless 18 circuit to incorporate a few of my own touches with stereo sat.nav.& power every thing) Reupholsering the interior will be a bitch tring to blend just the right amount of race and comfort. Now I have to sort out the A/C componets. there would have been more accomplished if I would have started with the proper car my 1974.5 260Zed was far to rusted and did not have the A/C unit in it so it was turned into a parts carand a great nagging point for my wife now the '73 is progressing very well. as far as the second question she will be a very well dressed driver mostlikly will see about 10k per year with racing most weekends during the summer and at least 1 HOT ROD Power Tour Long Haul ( I did this 2 years ago and had an absolute BLAST!!!!) Great question.
  3. The unit was tagged as a 1998 corvette So is it still a ZedF or can I get a regular V-8 bell for it and sell it to another Hot Rodder in my area I'm running a TH-700R4 in my Zed. I just thought this might be a good unit to pick up for resale but I will need to place a positive ID on this thing before I try to sell it. Can anybody help me??

    700r4 Qs

P.S. you will need to match the TC to your engine torque curve don't just pick one from a catalog. I got my parts from Transtar.

I just finished building mine it should handel about 550ft lbs I used kolene steels, raybestos blue plate friction, billet servo, red eagle band set my clutch pack up w/9 steels and .024" free travel a Fairbanks Shift Kit (stage 3) and a fully hydralic lock-up(no wiring needed) and a diode sprag/with a 10 vane pump with unbreakable rings and slide. I've run a similiar unit behind a blown 468 BBC with very little trouble.
  14. I tried to remove mine with a 4.5" cut off wheel not much luck and an air chisel just made me deaf. Then my neighbor loaned me his blue tipped wrench (oxy-actelene torch) and we just pulled all the carpet out and the job was done in about 15 min. Nice to see another v-8er in Mass I'm in Hudson.
  15. Hey scottie A friend of mine has a 79 vette irs in his 73 it is the same as our 82 irs but made of steel. What he did was section(shorten) the ears on the center section cut a piece of c channel with the open side face down. cross bolt it to the vette section then bolt it vertically to the stock mustach bar mounts. I'm going to weld the c channel between the frame rails in the rear I'm not sure about suporting the nose of the unit but a simple plate from 3/8 boiler plate should be very stout.Your project of fitting the entire rear assy is a bit more than I was willing to tackel I will try to get some photos of his install as soon as possable my be this weekend could I snail mail them to you to be posted I still have not learned to do this yet.
  16. I absolutly LOVE POR 15 Good luck on your cancer surgery

  22. Good question BLK i'm not looking for info on how to put 9" yellow stickers on my honda or kia? is there a difference? Any way does any body know of a good mag out there for rotor heads? The dominicans that I race with have not been very forthcoming with any tips and I;m tired of getting beat in the street drags at the track. All though they have been a great help in the project Z.
  23. Sorry I can't Help with the aussie conversion but maybe you can help me I'm trying to get a subscription to fast fours and rotorys I can't find it stateside but I imagine if I got an issue it will have a subsciption card that I can order it from let me know if you can help me Keith
  24. I just finished building my trans and now have one minor problem. I need a tailshaft housing (the iroc core won't work) the jtr book says use a 94-96 caprice housing from a 4L60E the problem is GM wants 200 bucks for one new and all the local boneyards either don't have any or will only sell me the whole tranny. My hardparts supplier has yet to get back to me on the availibilty or cost. What is everybody else using, or does anybody have one or access to one ie:friends at the bone yard? Thanks for all of the help you guys have given me so far there is a VERY good chance of me firing this beast up soon She comes home from the chassis shop at the end of the month
  25. Andrew it won't take much to kill a pump bushing (I replace a bunch of them on home built units) also check your snout on the converter for grooves or an out of round condition ( you did install a new converter with the rebuild didn't you?)
