  1. olie05. Sorry an n/a f54 block used on 82 and 83 n/a 280zx motors . same as turbo f54 but the knock sensor hole is not open. . below head temp to the left of oil filter.There is a raised area but no hole. I am going to drill and tap it .
  2. Putting a new n54 block in with 83 turbo ecu and harness. The n/a n54 block is not tapped for the knock sensor. Can it be drilled and tapped?Does it go all the way through or into a solid casting?
  3. Take the speedo drive from your old trans and put it in the new one. Jack up the back of the car so you do not loose any trans fluid.
  4. As long as you have not changed the diff your speedo should be right. The speedo drive gear is linked to Your diff.However if you just put in an 83 5peed and you did not put in your old speedo drive your speedo is off. The 83 5 speed came with an 3.90 or a 3.70 diff depending on if it was a gl or not.

  6. If you mill your head 10 thousands how many cc's would that equate to in volume change for determining your cr?In this case an n42.
  7. How much compression can you have and run 87 octaine?.At what timing on an na motor. Would you rather have higher compression or more advance to get the most tourqe on 87 octaine?Building a n/a daily driver and want as much low end as I can on regular.WOW me with your wisdom.
  8. The 260 cam has more duration but less lift.I have swapped towers from a p79 to a p90 and had no problems. Do it with the rockers off so you can make sure the cam does not bind.Turn it as you go and be sure to lube the cam berring well before you start.
  9. I beleave the id letter is stamped on the rear end of the cam toward the fire wall. you'll need a mirror
  10. I do not know what ratio diff you are using but you need to run the 3.9 with the 82-83 5 speed. You could use the 3.7 but in 5th on the highway you run way under boost rpm. and would have to down shift alot.The 3.9 and the 82-83 5 speed will put you about 3000 at 80 mph.right at the start of full boost.If you are using a high cr motor like 8.3 . it will not be as much of an issue.The 75-78 280 came with a 3.54 which would be real tall.
  11. That motor should be a 8.3 cr motor and compression should be about 170.Could someone have put flat top pistons in it ? that or you have massive carbon buildup.Try a different compression gauge.
  12. Way too soft. I put a set for a 240 on my 260 . THey were suspention techiques springs and went to the bump stops.If you do not want to buy aftermarket springs get a set if strut tops from a 240 or early 260. they should go right on but are an inch or so shorter.This would lower it without changing your ride.I went to a set of suspention techniques springs for a 280 and it lowered it to a good height, I already have the early 260 struts.
  13. The tach yellows at 6500 and reds at7000. However power peaks at about 5600 on older z's and about 5200 on zx's. So on a stock zx theres not much point in reving past 6000 and thats just to drop in at a higher rpm when you shift.If yours engines heathy you can rev it to 6000-6500 all day long if you want.welcome to the world of z's.
  14. What timing do you use on a 8.4 cr turbo motor with turbo dizy and ecu? I'm at 26 btdc now . would you run stock timing for an n/a motor with 8.3 cr? whats that about 8 to 12 btdc?
  15. Thanks for the info, I will only be at 87 . thats a .40 overbore. Guess i'll run a stock head gasket.Is the motorsport metal gasket the same? I was at the meet at the dragon but had to work fri and sat, I came in sun morn and only saw a couple of early cars. 2003z with his green car with the cool flairs and the two cars that got second in early z for stock and mod.I think I saw 240hoke leaving on my way in.Everybody else probably left saturday.
  16. Great numbers!. I am currently building a n54 block .40 over w/ turbo pistons and a n42 head to replace my stock block turbo motor. its great to see the outcome. I should be at about 8.4 cr depending on the head gasket. What head gasket did you guys use. I don't have an intercooler yet, how much boost can i run with this setup untill i do?
  17. Is that 10 with or without the ic?Does the n47 have a place to hook up the head temp connector ? I saw a post where they put the sending unit in the thermostat housing.
  18. Are tere any issues using a metel hg with a 91 mm opening on a head with 87 mm? I have read that the hk metal gasket gas a 91mm opening .What effect does this have on combustiob or detonation?
  19. Thanks for the imput but I'm still wondering how much boost are we talking here?can I run a stock 7 lbs of boost with no intercooler or would I need one just to run 7? I've seen many posts with hp info on low compression turbo motors with various mods and boost levels but not much on what to expect with n/a level cr and low boost levels.Any one with numers on what I could expect?
  20. I am using the dished turbo pistons in a .40 overbore.If I use a 2mm head gasket it might go down to 8.3 cr. how much boost did you run PrOxLaMuS ? Was that with or without the intercooler?thanks
  21. check your timing, if it is too retarded it could do that.Also check and be sure that the throtle body is clean. if there is any buildup around the throtle plate it does not let the air around it it let the car idle with the throtle closed.

I'm want to increase the off boost tourqe on my turbo motor.If I use a n42 head on a turbo low end I should end up with about a 8.4 cr depending on the head gasket.How much boost is safe to run with the stock ecu and no intercooler?I live in the mountains and I need tourqe more than peak h.p.With the dished pistons and the n42 head chamber I will be at more risk for detonation , would a 1 mm hd gasket be best? I have read that the head temperature sending unit for the turbo can be moved to the thermostat housing ,will that work ok? And lastly if iI did run an intercooler how much boost could I run with this setup?I have done many serches and found great info but am con cerned about the specifics listed above.
  23. It can be something as simple as the fuel filter.It gets clogged and will not pass enough fuel to wind out the motor.I haven't had it do it that low mine usually stopped reving at about 4000 ,but with it sitting it could have gummed up bad.
