I am just starting down the MS path, with plans to install the MS3 on my VK56DE, which I expect to be a giant PITA. I wasn't aware of shadow logger, but the bluetooth connection is awesome as I was hoping I'd be able to interface it with my phone and use it as the dash/key. On topic: +1 for vid please. Thanks, Dave

height issues resolved with this system
thehelix112 replied to texis30O's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I guess that'd depend on the height issues you are trying to resolve? If the objective is to be sick and be able to go over speedbumps, I guess? Would be interesting to be able to increase rake on a straight on the track also perhaps? Dave -
look great. Dave

Tonight I cut the stock VK56 accessory belt to the new size without the AC and power steering pumps. With the tensioner (that I need to replace) untensioned, it came out to 42 3/4" long. I then took the resulting belt down to the local auto parts store (who are very helpful) and tried to match it to an OEM one. They found two close matches, * one from the 2010 versa is the right spec and 42" long. * another is from a bunch of Chrysler's and is 43 1/8" long. I ordered both so we'll see which fits better. I also ordered a bunch of fuel system parts: fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel cell, and oil and radiator catch cans. I'm also contemplating getting larger injectors: thinking 1000cc to have some room to grow with E85 and forced induction. Dave -
The second shot is the perspective I was after. That just looks ridiculously awesome. Ridiculous. If it was me I'd matte black the centres or all of the wheels, but not for any good reason, just coz I'm stuck in 5-years ago and I still think it looks cool. Dave
-
Those wheels and flares look freaking slick Mike. I'd love a shot outside from a little further away to get perspective on the sizes if you're bored. Dave

Yeah I can't wait to see this thing with those and the CCWs. All matte black CCWs... hmmmmmmm.... Dave

texis30O, Zero work done to the motor as yet. It will be running hayabusa ITBs and a megasquirt to start with. I've been in touch with nizpro from my home city (Melbourne, Aus) who built a quad turbo 6.0L version of the VK56 for boats about getting a set of cams for the VCT version that will run to around 7500rpm. That and a set of extractors will be the first upgrade. Then assuming that nets somewhere around 500-550hp I'll be focusing on other aspects of the car (and the driver). Dave -

Got myself a CD009 gearbox from a G35 with around 50K miles on it. The existing adaptors on the market seem unreasonably expensive: I cannot justify spending more for a small piece of alu than I have spent on either the engine, or the gearbox each. I'll be trying to CAD up the specs for a thin metal adaptor and getting it laser cut. CAD file will be available for others to not get ripped off, assuming I get it done.. So adaptor plate is the next step, then it's into clutch and flywheel land. Dave -

I recall reading somewhere that the VK56VD in the M is actually derived from the VK50 from the FX50, and has limited similarities to the VK56DE. Whether or not that would impact the registration is something I have no idea bout. Oh no, did I just spread an internet rumour with no substantive information or confidence? Crap. Dave -
Yeah I hate Egan that happens. Dave

Jeez Sean. I don't wanna be getting emotional on a car forum.. (ala, nicely said). Dave

Great points, thanks guys: The generator is out. I think the best plan is for me to talk to some people and work out exactly what I want, buy the parts, then get a quote from a sparky to install it. Many thanks, Dave

Hehe, ditto. Dave

bloz up, Thanks for the response, that does make sense with the DC output. What really interests me though is if I'm using a generator that is spec'd at 20A max, what will my limitation be? Will I be limited to duty cycle, or amperage? I'm assuming amperage, but I'd love to hear from someone with a better understanding of the fundamental concepts than I have. I'm also interested in a guestimation of what 20A draw through the lincoln tig would max out at. Is it as simple as half? Ie, will it limit me to ~115A of the 230A claimed range? Also, what does that translate to in real world terms as in thickness of Al and steel? Thanks, Dave

Guys, I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle with purchasing a new TIG. It requires 220V input, and there are difficulties in wiring my house for 220V (legally, safely, cheaply etc). I am contemplating getting one of these: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200360137_200360137 or similar to run the tig. As an additional benefit I could take it to the track to power a little air compressor/charge the laptop/etc if required. I am a doofus when it comes to all things electrical. The specs on my welder: http://www.lincolnelectric.com/assets/en_US/Products/K2535-2/e337.pdf indicate around 40A draw at 100% DC. Judging by the looks of that I think it'd pull around 40A at 100% DC. I don't understand how duty cycle relates to the dialed in output amperage though to be honest. The generator above has a rated output of 20A @ 240V. I dunno whether that means I'd be limited to a really low amperage on the tig, or low duty cycle or both? Anyone done something similar? Dave

This is likely not as helpful as other things people have posted, but I did something similar: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/63506-daves-280z-vk56de-project/page__view__findpost__p__694585 Dave

Now that's not a bad idea. Effort, but a good idea. I'm thinking I'll just ask my neighbour to plug in to his 220v outlet and run a long arse extension cord. Dave

Joe, Pity we're not closer. Oh well, if you're ever out to visit would be great to grab a gear and trade VK stores. Or rather, me just listen to your stories as mine are nonexistent. Dave -

Joe, I have seen the S14 swap. I am going a different route with the intake, and not doing a plenum. I'll be running the hayabusa ITBs with no plenum. I do need to start making some progress on that. Plan is to fab up an example of the adaptor I want out of wood and take it around to machine shops and see what they reckon. I'm planning on a Z34 transmission as they're not _that_ much more expensive and I think it'd be nice to have an extra cog in there. Where abouts are you? Dave
