  1. Mike, Got any pics where we can actually see said wheel? Dave
  2. Ohhh k. First electrician wants $2200 to get a new breaker box. Yeah, I don't think so. Gunna see if a neighbour wants to let me run a long arse extension cord from his garage to mine. Will also try to get another quote. Dave
  3. I do not support the sentiment of my fellow aussie, nor the lack of grammar. But I believe what you've written here is a great example of this particular type of logical fallacy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy#Begging_the_question I think hybridz has a pretty decent international membership base, so your first statement is somewhat assumptive. Nice if you to come visit though. Have you seen this little sucker? http://green.autoblog.com/2011/09/20/more-details-emerge-on-the-electric-edison2-evlc-with-310-mpge/ I like it. While we're on aero, I especially like the idea of having the rear taper horizontally instead of vertically, though I don't think this is a new idea, it's pretty well executed in this case. Dave
  4. Justin, I'm going to stop saying thanks for the input as hopefully it's implied by now, and I'm getting sick of repeating myself. Consider it standing appreciation. I guess I should I restate my goals in more concrete terms. The uses for the car will be: * driving it to the track (early morning, limited traffic and start/stops) * driving it at the track (yay) * driving it back from the track (dusk, traffic might be more of an issue on a weekend here) * driving it to a car show or two I basically would rather have something that I don't have to redo the clutch/transmission if I ever end up having money to buy a trailer. Re bell housing, absolutely. Re the huge verniers required, that makes sense, will have a dig around and see if I can buy one of them. Re the way to get measurements, makes a lot of sense to me. Re the procedure for lining things up/designing the solution, completely agree. It's awesome to have it spelt out like that though as now I have a rough recipe to follow, thanks! Here is a pic of the front of the bellhousing Looks like there is some meat on it to play with. The other option is after the adaptor is made and bolted together I weld it to the transmission for good measure. Dave
  5. John, Is there anything wrong with just tilting the fuel cell? Mounting it up higher isn't going to help the CoG, though it will certainly clear room for a diffuser. Dave
  6. I think I'll just do what Jon suggested. Simple and cost effective. Now I need to figure out what sort of cell to get, and whether I should mount it with the sump facing forwards as due to the tilt that's there the fuel is going to be.. I think that makes sense? Dave
  7. Well.. Er... Yes. You could think of doing that, if you weren't a complete retard like moi. Thanks Jon. Dave
  8. Forcer, I didn't know about Chris Forsberg actually, thanks for that. I think the Drift Emporium guys used a different transmission, but I will definitely go email Chris Forsberg, thanks for the tip. Dave
  9. Haha, cool. I'm fine with you telling me I'm crazy, just makes me more determined to do it. But it's best if I can pick you knowledge _while_ you're supposing I'm silly. Yeah I think 5.5" will be good. I think I'm going to try and get a triple-plate, assuming there is enough room in there. The metallic material will have to do I guess. I am planning on a ~1/2" adaptor plate, then milling the same amount (or however much works I guess) off the bell housing to get the input spline in the right place. Re starting it, I have a couple of ideas, none of which are very good, but we'll see I guess. Thanks! Dave
  10. Hey Justin, I did not see that post, my apologies. I replied there: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/101862-starting-vk56-into-280z-transmission-advice-needed/page__view__findpost__p__958837 I am talking directly to QM now. I am all for receiving the guidance, though I am hoping I can keep the custom components to a minimum and keep the work affordable. Look forward to more replies in the other thread? Dave
  11. Driven5, Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it and apologize for not reading it til now, sucker snuck by me. The quarter master guy I emailed was very responsive, and just asked for specs on the input spline, which I am currently trying to dig up elsewhere: http://my350z.com/forum/370z-engine-and-drivetrain/536927-transmission-mainshaft-input-spline.html http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivetrain/43286-transmission-mainshaft-input-spline.html so I can get back to him for a price. A custom flywheel will run around $300 according to him. I kinda have my heart set on a 5.5" or smaller, assuming they don't end up so thick that there isn't room in there for them, but I kinda doubt that will be a big issue. I understand this will be a button clutch, I've been in a friend's R32 GTR multiplate thing that would randomly decide to grab when sitting still, fun fun. This car will not be driven in traffic. I failed to find any specifications on the different friction materials available from QM, nor on the torque capabilities of the clutches themselves. I am talking to QM about this one: http://www.quartermasterusa.com/qm/clutches/v-drive-clutch-units/without-button-flywheel-3-disc-1-1-8-x-10-5-5-quot-v-drive-clutch-unit.html Any info you have on torque capabilities would be awesome. I also have my heart set on not running a starter, or ring gear at all. I'll work something else out for starting it. I realize both these things are foolish, but I don't care. I want to maximize the responsiveness of the engine, that is all. I'll deal with starting it (both the engine, and moving the car) when they become issues. Oh, and I definitely do not have the money for carbon. Thanks again, Dave
  12. The vk comes with an auto only, which i did not buy. Could try adapting the vq bits I suppose but it seems like a waste when I want to run a track only setup eventually. Thanks for the input. Dave
  13. Hehe, thanks man. I've done a bit of stick welding back home, where I successfully blasted big holes in things. I think I'll do my best with what is available on the internet to at least get some idea about the basics, then it'd be awesome to have you come over and get me started. Beer will most definitely be available. Thanks man! Dave
  14. J.Huff, Thanks dude, it looks much better in pictures when you can't get up close to it. I'm sorry I don't know the colour, PO painted it. EMWHYR0HEN, Thanks man. As always, much obliged for the assistance. Finally got around to wire wheeling, caulking and painting the rear wheel well last weekend. Worked a treat. Currently researching clutches, thinking a quarter master 5.5" triple plate atm and chasing a 370z 6-speed to adapt. Lemme know if you stumble across one. Dave
  15. Thanks Mario. You are totally right, EMWHYR0HEN has spoken highly of the glendale CC welding program. I would love to check it out, it's just a bit of a drive, and I don't have much in the way of free time. Might be the best bet though. Dave
  16. Hey guys, I am in the market for a fuel cell. However, since I am going to be cutting up the back of my car, I figured I'd like to try and create some space for a diffuser if I should ever have the motivation for one, to that end, I want a fuel cell that when mounted flush with the floor in the back of an S30 will create a tapered slope from a low-point approximately level with the bottom of the diff, to a high point a few inches below the tail light panel. Unfortunately all the "wedge fuel cells" I've been able to find are all essentially upside down versions of what I want: http://atlfuelcells.carshopinc.com/product_info.php/products_id/115290/FC140 What are my options? Custom? Or is there someone that makes what I am looking for. My desire for this was affirmed when I saw this too: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/102290-bsr-nos-imsa-260z-cage-photos/ specifically: http://s160.photobucket.com/albums/t177/psanders240/BSR-260Z-IMSA/?action=view&current=jeffery-R1-E015.jpg Thanks, Dave
  17. John, Might be stretching your memory a touch, but how did you find the quartermaster clutch? I am looking for someone to advise me and help me spec things out for the conversion I am starting, VK56DE mated to 370z 6-speed into my 280z. There prices seem reasonable (just within my budget), but I'm concerned about a lack of support/dealers in California I can annoy to help. Any suggestions/experiences/input much appreciated. Dave PS. Woo, thread resurrection!
  18. Hehe, I meant tyre temps. Difficult to break a car in if you can't trust the gauges though Dave
  19. Looks good Mike. I know you were having teething issues so likely didn't get a chance to do any tuning, but did you get any temps across the fronts there? Looks like it might like a bit more negative camber? Also what sort of wing is that again? Thanks, Dave
  20. Thanks again guys. That's massively helpful, and makes a lot of sense, though my electrical knowledge is terrible so I'll just be paying a professional I think. Thanks again, I'm sure I'll have a lot of annoying questions later on. Dave
  21. Great info satan! Many thanks. Also really appreciate the pics. I'd like to get my setup as correct and safe as possible, so I think I'll just call a local sparky in the morning and schedule an appointment and see what they have to say. Is what my breaker box looks like, pretty sure there isn't any 220v breakers in there, and it sure looks pretty full.. likely gunna need quite an upgrade, hope its not too expensive. Will go jump into the welding forum now. Dave
