"Hot" Bushing tip of the day
CruxGNZ replied to silicone boy's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I don't mean to burst your bubble, but many of us do that. Fire (just showing some flames, I'm not mad) kind of goes hand in hand with replacing those old rubber bushings. It's the easiest way to get those suckers out of there, even though it may not be the most pleasant smelling. Good tip though, silicone boy. !M! -
Has anyone heard from Evan (Evan Purple240zt )?
CruxGNZ replied to CruxGNZ's topic in Non Tech Board
Never mind... Evan contacted me the day after this post. Everything is good now . !M! -
Hey Scottie, you know they whole story behind that car with all the crap on it? I saw that posted in a tire store about a year ago. Apparently, drugs were involved . The list of crap that was in the car was AMAZING! There was like 10 bags of concrete in the trunk. If memory serves me right (it never does) this was in a Home Depot parking lot. There was a man and woman that were going out to the woods to build a cabin! They didn't get very far, you can't see in the picture, but both rear tires blew out from the wieght of all that crap. I wish I could tell the whole story behind the picture, funny stuff. !M!

I think the proper subject line should have been, "How to put 10,000 miles on you tires in 4 feet". !M!

Evan and I did some business together a few weeks ago. I gave him some cash and now I have not heard anything from him. It's been 10 days that I have not heard from him. Does anyone know if something happened to him? I gave him 2 more days for him to contact me, after that I'm going down there to where I sent the money. He only lives about 2.5 hours from me. For his sake, he does NOT want me to come down there. !M!

Cool Pete! I can't wait to see what it looks like on the Z. I'll have to start looking at some Honduh's to see if they would fit the shape of the Z also, good idea. The stock mirrors on my car are just too old. I can't tighten them up anymore, because they are just too OLD. The chrome is really pitted too, 'cause they are JUST TOO OLD . I shut the drivers door and the mirror swings inward after it shuts . !M!

Hey, good idea! I can't wait to see some pictures. You could even Photoshop the image of your 600R mirror onto a Z, it's at just the right angle. I still like the idea of '93 Tercel (yeah, that's a Toyota ) mirrors that fit in the corner of the frame of the window. Has anyone done that yet? I remember seeing this on someones web site a while back. !M!

Here's the link: web page Click on the "media center" button. You will see the dual engine Tibouron video second from the bottom. It's a must see! It shows the car, then shows it run the 1320, then it shows the car roasting THE CRAP out of all four tires!!! I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it. Also, on that web page, if you check out his first burn out, you can check out the scerery around here, nothing like you guys have out west . I also think the video of the C5 "up a tree" may be from around here too, the road looks familiar, but I may be wrong. If you have a fast internet connection, check out the Gumball 3000 tour, you will really like it! !M!

"Just after this picture was taken, Bob cracked open the throttle on this beast, his face growing more red with anger, muttered the words, "I'LL show them who's stupid, those stupid jerks telling ME what I can and can't do, those stupid, stupid...(trailing off)". Leaving behind a trailer full of assorted pork products, a worm he called "Norm", and his best friend a Mountain Dew can. He was 32." !M!

I love all the cool plates you guys come up with. I still like, but can't have anymore (changing to collector plates), my plate that was on my decked out CRX and on my Z for 2 years, HAD E NUF . It's great, either a statement or a question. !M!

Stock Proportioning Valve Adjustment?
CruxGNZ replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Tomahawk Z, On my '73 I just gutted the stock proportioning valve and left all the plumbing alone, less work. I'm assuming you can do ths on your 280Z too. Then I just plumbed in the APV into the rear brake line. That's it. Can I get a confirmation on this by anyone else? Can he do the same as I have done to my '73? !M! -
Women... my sister had a 1980 something Dodge Colt a few years ago. It was low on oil, so she thought she would do good and fill it up. Well, she did fill it up... up to the top of the VALVE COVER! She then drove it happily thinking she worked on her own car and everything was fine. This is great...she calls me up and tells me that she couldn't see anyone behind her and all she could see was white smoke and it really smelled! The thing actually ran fine with that much oil in it. I have since schooled my sister and she knows better now. I'll never forget that phone call and she will never live that down . !M!

I have been looking for this spoiler for years. From what I have found, it was only available in Australia and is not produced anymore. Does anyone know where to find this unique sort of whale tail? Here's the link whale tail any help in finding this spoiler would be great. Thank you, !M!

Are they adjustable? If so, could you e-mail me some pics at triphopin@yahoo.com. I also have a rear sway bar, so a end link mount will be required. I am making adjustable front control arms right now that retain the stock bushings and I'm thinking of taking on the task of making adjustable rears, but if the price is right... !M!

I don't have anything to add to this post. I just wanted to say NICE @SS NOVA! !M!

Anthony, I just ran new lines from the master cylinder back to just before where it tee's into the two lines for each rear wheel, of course you have to plumb in your proportioning valve somewhere in that line also, depends on where you want it. Some put it in the engine compartment, just after the master cylinder, others put it inside the car. The new lines that I put in were from the local auto store. There you can buy lines already done for you, but some may not be the correct lenghth and may need to be coiled up to take up slack, unless you plan to cut and double flare them. Your teacher will show you how and teach you about double flares. Make sure you practice before you try on your car. Doing the APV on my car was the first time I tackled double flaring brake lines, and man, what a pain in the @ss. !M!

Cool, thanks! !M!

There are knock sensors that are hooked up to to LED's. Green, yellow, and red LED's, kind of like 1-10 and green is one, and red is ten, you don't want ten. !M!

Looking at the piston and piston wall, I see signs of it binding inside, should I try honing it out to make it any better? I have lubed it up pretty good, but no go. Any ideas? I have put a rather large C clamp on it with no movement whatsoever, it will not go any farther in. !M!
-
Ross, The piston IS screwed all the way in. I have used pliers on them to get it nice and tight. I do have a proper tool for the pistons to be pushed in, but it doesn't work very well, kind of a cheap one. So I resorted to the C clamp, which has worked many times with brake jobs before. Is the piston supposed to be out that far? When it is all assembled the rotor will fit in between the two brand new pads, like everything is fine, but I would still like to know if there is something wrong with the caliper itself. You call it "piston reset", is there something I should be doing, other than putting it back together the way I took it apart ? I need these brakes to work the first time I put them back on the car. I'm not supposed to be working on my car in the old folks home, where I keep my car . !M!
-
I can now make use of my new camera! I am rebuilding the 280ZX calipers and have taken one apart. The piston looks like it should go all the way into the body of the caliper, but mine sticks out about 3/8". Is this right? I haven't taken the other one apart yet to compare, just thought it would be neat to use a visual along with my ramblings. Check it out here caliper . It's the top picture. To bad each picture doesn't have it's own address. If it did, then I could post pictures on here, instead of making you guys follow a link. !M!

Like Owen said, some vents or something on the rear valance, I would have to say something like the C5 'vette. When the C5 came out, I thought it was ugly, all that wasted space in the rear of the 'vette, but now after a few years, it grew on me and I think it looks pretty cool, just my opinion. Do some work in Photoshop or something to see what it would look like. Nice work on your car, keep it up. !M!
-
If the car is still stock, then it would be an open diff. for that year. !M!
-
From what I gathered, if the Z is still stock, then it would be a 3.54 R200, n/a would be a 3.70 R200. !M!

Check the turbo Buick web sites, they always have chips for sale, they are pretty cheap. My buddy has a programer to make custom chips for the GN, last I checked he was charging $50 for a chip with your personal settings. So, tell us more about this GN, what are your plans? Is this going in your Z? !M!
