  1. oops, u never stated if is it was a 1st gen turbo motor or 2nd gen turbo??...7mgte vs. vh45de, the vh hands down in my opinion due to the fact that both can make about the same amount of power on stock internals but the vh is still a v8 and has an aluminum block...
  2. both are awesome motors, but i have pretty much no experience with either in a Z. Depending on your power goals and what u want in your Z, your decision will really vary. Both are great motors, but have very different characteristics. Both swaps have been done, but i can't recall who's done the vh45de. The supra swap can be found if u just do a member search on z-gad, who as of now is almost about to break 8's in his Z with his current 2jz setup. The vh and 2jz can both make ungodly amounts of hp, but as everyone knows, nothing can mess with the 2jz because of it's awesome head design and forged internals...700whp is not unseen on stock internals and is done everyday. The vh on the other hand is higher compression motor (10 to 1 versus the supra's 8 to 1) and the Vh being an aluminum block as well with be lighter than the 2jz but will not handle boost as well as the 2jz due to it's higher CR and aluminum block versus the supra's cast iron. big horsepower is not difficult on the vh45 but supra numbers are not feasable without the internals replaced, but mind you, these blocks have seen over 500whp on stock blocks. My opinion is to decide what the car is going to be most used for, then decide:D I personally would go vh45 due to it's nissan heritage, v8 torque and it's abundance in junkyards; a low boost turbo setup would make for an insane Z. The 2jz is an amazing motor, but it's cast iron block and size make it more of a candidate for a drag car. Being an dohc inline 6, the 2jz will not sit as far back as the vh45, making the vh45 a better candidate for neutral handling and it'll keep your weight down. Best of luck in your deicision and let us know how it works out! btw make sure to check out z-gad's ride, it's siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick:icon47:
  3. Hearing a lot about the power brute lsd lately, i'm looking into buying it. Currently have the stock r180 with the stock halfshafts on my 74 260(280 body) and am looking into a lsd and cv's. I want something that will be able to take abuse from couple of hard launches every now and then with about 400whp. My real question: Should i just go with the r200 lsd from the 87-89 Z31 turbo and get the turbo Cv's or should i install a 3.54 power brute lsd and get maxima cv's? The r180 with lsd and cv's seems like a better idea since i can pick the gearing of the diff and the r180 is considerably lighter. anyone know a price on the power brute lsd? Which would be cheaper overall? Money is not the biggest issue as i only want to do this once, so i want to do it right, but i need everyones opinion!

    Pantera1

wow, that looks awesome. Is there a kit for this rear hatch conversion?
  5. anyone know where i can purchase a split pulse manifold for the l28et or have one fabbed up? i've seen some nice custom manifolds on the org. but don't know where to find these manifolds to purchase. Thumper- I know it's a lot easier to just go with an hy35 but I'm stuck on this turbo...i'm actually just trying to be the first person to put one on an l28et on the org. Thanx for your information, but i'm one stubborn guy who has an infatuation with the hx35.
  6. So what i've been reading, I am going to have to obtain one of these for my hx35w install. From my understanding, i would have to use a manifold(equal length) that, in this case would have 2 collectors from cyl1,2,3,& cyl4,5,6, then from the collectors, the tubing would have to stay seperate til the divided t3 style flange. Am i understanding this correctly? My knowledge of turbos and manifolds is limited, but would like to join the holset world pretty soon, even if it means that i'll have to shell out a grip of cash from a custom manifold. Any info would be helpful, especially if u know where i can get one made or pre-fabed(yeah, right)

    hx35w

I am now a proud owner of a used holset hx35w(internally wastegated) turbo with a 12cm wheel:flamedevi . Only paid $270 with shipping so i think i got an awesome deal. Looking under the hood of my 260 it looks like it will fit on my l28et without fitting issues, but i have read that some are not able to fit this turbo on similar setups due to lack of clearance. 1) will this turbo fit? 2) would this be a somewhat street friendly turbo matched to an MS'ed l28et with stock dished pistons(7.4cr) if i do some mild headwork and a decent cam? I understand that thumper is seeing 12psi at 3100 as i recall from another post; can i assume similar spooling characteristics as this turbo is dual scroll and uses MWE(map width enhancement) though it is considerably larger? An info is helpful...

just an ad i came past that anyone in southern cali might be interested in. http://www.recycler.com/automotive_parts/advancedsearchresults.classified?page=3&type=boolean&class=4550%204560%204570%204580%204590%204600%204610%204620%204630%204640&minprice=&end_date=&adsperpage=15&sortfields=start_date%20descending%2Ctitle%2Cprice_num&keyword=turbo&radius=&price=&zip=&start_date=&maxprice=
  9. so what is compression with an f54 block (dished pistons) , stock head gasket with an N42 or N47 head? Trying to bump CR on my stock compression l28et. Trying to stay with stock dished pistons. 8.5cr would be nice but zeiss why do u say that the n42 is prone to detonation? Should i just deck the block and get a p90? i have a p90a head right now with hydraulic lifters, but as i have read these lifters are not good for higher hp applications and are prone to breaking.
  10. u sure that camaro was stock? c5 zo6's typically run mid to high twelves depending on the driver, the ss mid 13's.
  11. The first thing i ask of you guys, PLEASE DON'T FLAME as i know nothing about this kit but would like to know more. Searching on google i found Thomas Knight's site http://www.boostedhead.com . They sell a universal kit, which uses a roots type blower running off of batteries;you can even a 2nd car battery and mount it in the trunk(your decision on what u decide to power it with). Researched this kit and some people are getting pretty good gains out of these things. A ka24de running 8si off one of these almost doubled it's peak hp (208whp) and they don't put load on your motor since it does not run off of a pulley. Many are saying that these kits work well and the parts are high quality. Anyone have experience with this kit or know anything about it? This seems like a good way to achieve easy and somewhat affordable boost on our old L series motors. The kit is about $1600 for the blower, so $3000 could be a nice budget for a l28 with this blower, some MSA headers, full 3in. exh, and run it off of msns and a wbo2 just to keep afr's in check. Just another alternative to the l28et and NA-t setups. Additional information is appreciated
  12. if i'm not mistaken those would be ccw sp20's...you can find them at ccwheel.com but it's a pricey wheel; awesome quality though. More power to you if u can afford these, i probably built my car for the same amount of money u'll spend on these. I might be mistaken about the brand, but u can always have iforged built u a wheel according to your criteria( backspacing, size, design) and i think i might have seen this style on their site, check it out www.iforged.com
  13. in the video he states that the whole motor is aftermarket(rb26) ...he doesn't go into detail, but i would think compression was raised a bit vs. the supra which had BPU mods. Both amazing motors in amazing vehicles
  14. currently looking at the devilsown progressive universal kit. Looks very promising as it runs off of map voltage and can be adjusted with a curve. I would like to run this on my megasquirted l28et with hybrid t3/t4. Does anyone have any experience with this kit. If so please give me a little more insite on this kit as to how it works and the features it has. Going in for dynotuning soon and i thought i might as well do this now so i can tune around the water/meth.
  15. so if i get my p90a ported well and i clean up my intake and exhaust ports, unshroud my valves(maybe i'll send it out to brusch), get a mild cam(one that peaks close to redline{6500}) and maybe upgrade to a holset hx40 (externally wastegated) do u think 375whp is in my reach with h2o inj.+pump gas, 20psi and good tuning?
  16. looking for about 375whp...i searched and found nothing when looking for dyno numbers on an l28et in this range. As of this moment i have a megasquirted l28et with a t3/t4 on a stock motor with 440cc inj. and a wideband...3 in. ehx, fuel rail...all the goodies. My real question is "can i reach 375whp with stock heads(slightly ported), a conservative cam, and ported stock manifolds with a 60mmtb port matched to the head and intake mani.? At 20psi+ with some good dyno tuning i think this should be feasable, but i dont really have any experience with the l28et at those boost levels. Currently running 11psi off a perrin ebcs with a rough tune(probably around 210whp give or take) as i have beaten new s4's and e46 m3's. Dyno numbers and graphs would be appreciated.
  17. finishing up my project l28et i need to now get my car tuned...don't really have money for dyno tuning now that i spent the rest of my money on a wb02. Does anyone have a ms file i could use with the base fuel maps and timing? I am new to tuning standalones and could really use some help( no flaming would be appreciated)...here is my setup. looking to run 10-12psi stock 83 l28et f54/p90a t3/t4 hybrid turbo(not sure of specs, came on motor) msns v2.2 with extra firmware and flyback board 420cc inj(ford CFI) pallnet fuel rail ebay bov ebay IC perrin ebcs(solenoid for boost, to be used with msns) 2.5 in i/c charge piping 3in turbo back mandrel bent aeromotive fpr -8an braided steel fuel lines Looking for a conservative tune that i can get decent mpg around town and still be able to put down about 220whp. This WILL be a daily driver
  18. any opinions on the krylon industrial primer can spray? i have heard that this can leave a nice finish if done correctly
  19. well when i bought my car, it had been primered with the rattle can primer over the stock orange. After shaving the rear and a few other holes, i proceeded to sand the whole body. It's not down to bare metal, but i would like to primer it flat black for now due to my financial situation(not enough $$ for paint). I am looking for a primer that will leave a consistent finish, good adhesion and something that i can eventually paint over without too much trouble. I was looking at rustoleum and the 2k urethane primers, but i was told the epoxy primers were also great. Someone please help me pick the right primer for my application. I am looking for a flat black finish, something kind of like phil's $40 paint job
  20. the stock 9:1 compression should be great for off boost. As far as internals go, if ur looking for less than 500whp than u don't need more than a mildly ported stock head, a very mild cam (e303) and a gt40 intake. I would recommend a thicker mhg to bring down compression just a little to be on the safe side and arp head bolts. Internals are good for over 500whp with good tuning(aftermarket ecu). A nice twin turbo setup i've seen was using the t03's mounted on some flipped bbk headers. Turbo's are off of the turbocoupes using 2 saab 9000fmics. On a junkyard stock internal setup with a cam he is dynoing 491whp and 457lb ft.( i don't know boost levels)
  21. btw the motor is an aluminum block( lightweight) and i has 7, yup 7, main bearings...sounds pretty stout to me
  22. i think we have a motor that might be an alternative to the almighty 2jz:evil: sorry z-gad, these motors are coming up in the food chain...700whp on a stock 2.8 inline 6 with 30psi on a gt35r...this needs to go in a Z. check this link out http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=572535 anybody know how we can get this in a Z? i'm guessing you can mate this motor to the 5 speed e36 gearbox and with a custom driveshaft and an r200lsd and you're good to go. Motor and tranny mounts can be fabricated and maybe even a crossmember. With a mhg, arp head bolts, a standalone, wb02 and a good tune, a reliable 500whp should be easily attainable @ 20psi with a decent turbo(sc61, gt35r, gt45r, somewhere along these lines) I started another thread with this idea but got no responses, tell me what u guys think!? I like the fact that we retain the l28's displacement but with a motor that has a dohc design and very smooth power delivery.
  23. with some characteristics of the l28(displacement, inline 6 ,weight) and it's smooth power delivery i am very fond of this motor, with it's dohc head design, it flows much better than the stock l28 and has higher compression for better off boost response. this motor responds very well to boost and will handle over 500whp on a stock block. wondering if anyone has ever considered putting this in a Z car. bolted up to an e36 m3 5 speed, custom driveshaft and an r200 i think this could do some serious damage in a Z. This motor has seen over 600whp in a handful of bmw's including one with a stock ecu and just a MHG. Megasquirt and WB this motor with about 16-18psi and u'll have an easy 500whp reliably with some good tuning and a pretty efficient turbo(of course all the supporting fuel and turbo mods as well). If anyone has any idea on how this can be done or if it has been done i would appreciate it. Check this one out @ www.bmwturbo328.com.
  24. so i was looking on ebay and i found the perrin ebcs...an affordable ebc that can be run off an aftermarket such as MS(which i am currently using). I am looking for someone who can tell me a little more about it as far as how well it works and maybe even how it works, i know it runs off an electronic solenoid that replaces the factory solenoid. how would i hook this up to my MS? any information is helpful and yes i did a search
