Hey speedfreaks! My Z is now running 10psi and let me tell you...the difference is like night and day. It's almost like my Z came out of hybernation. Don't get me wrong, the stock settings was enough to romp on rice boys but now it's just crazy fast. The Z pulled in all gears and pulled hard. I still have to test run it on the freeway to see how it acts. The turbo gauge and air fuel meter finally came in handy and at WOT she runs rich I can't wait to see who my next rice boy victem will be lol I had my wife ride shotgun last night and she couldn't believe the difference. Now it's time to look into an intercooler etc etc. Dang this is soo adicting but I love it! Next plans: Intercooler + piping Bigger injectors BOV 15psi

I need help with my Dawes Devise boost controller (please :)
ratedZ replied to ratedZ's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
OK I made the hose short as per instructions but I was wondering if I could make the hose longer on the turbo side so I could mount the controller to the strut tower housing. This would make adjusting a lot easier as I have to reach against the hot manifold to adjust the boost right now. I'm aware of the spiking problems that might arise if I made the hose too long but I just need to make it long enough to attach it to the car with a bracket. Well thanks for the help guys...I'm off to add washers on the POV so it will stop hissing and venting. PS. my Z is sooo much faster now...god this is addicting. -
I need help with my Dawes Devise boost controller (please :)

ummm....I think I was supposed to modify the POV? I'm running 10psi of boost right now but I didn't hear the POV blow (or maybe I did but I was too excited lol ) so just to verify, when does the POV let pressure out? Thanks. -
Hey guys. I wanted to install my boost controller from Dawes Device. I read the instructions and I'm pretty sure that I understand it BUT I'm affraid to follow instructions that is not Z specific...especially that there is a chance that I might blow my motor if I didn't do it right. The year of my Z is 83. Looking at my turbo, there is a hose coming out of the waste gate which then T's off into the turbo and into the throttle body piping. Here's my understanding of the instructions: I take off the old vacuum hose that is attached to the wastegate and the T fitting. Install the new vacuum hose to the wastegate and attach it to the adjustable side of the boost controller (a fitting that has a 90 degree bend). Then I slip on the hose on the bottom side of the boost controller which will then be inserted into the T fitting. Is this right? Like I said I'm not too sure as they had two different diagrams and I want to make sure that I do this right. As always thanks guys for all the help. PS. any tips on getting the old crusted hoses off the fittings...it's pretty hard.

I've been seing this yellow all decked out VW Jetta around town with roll cage and all that lives around my area. Everytime I see him, I'm in the family car but yesterday was a different story. I already knew that this guy was cocky as hell as I've seen him do a burn out at a few stop signs (front wheel burn out are so not right). Anyway, I'm driving my Z on my way to work and I see this fool speeding up to catch up to me on a friggen school zone! (what an ass!!!) I stayed under the speed limit because I'm not a dumb ass who will speed through a school zone and I'm already contemplating on how I'm going to school this idiot. He rides my bumper and I brush it off. I make a right into an open street slowly and I expected him to swing to my left and take off. Nope not today buddy. I let him get up beside me and I see his got a girl and I just gave them the biggest grin and romped on his sorry ass. It was funny how fast this yellow thing dissapeard from my rear view. Not wanting to be a total dick *snickers* I slow up so he could catch up and does...only to be dusted the second time. Ahahahah...can't F with the turbo Datsun. I hope I didn't ruffle his feathers too much and I can't wait to see how he acts when confronted by my Z again....I wouldn't be surprised if he avoided me all together lol. Can't wait to run the 10psi of boost this weekend...then I'm going out huntin!

Having two dogs myself I know exactly what you are going through. My dogs are part of the family and I would go ape ish if the same happened to my babies. When I was 12 I had a cat that I loved and cared for. I had him since he was a little kitty. Unfortunately he also was eatin by a bigger cat....a coyote. Here's a pic of my Rex and Princess

Well the exhaust is chopped off! And let me tell you...my turbo Z growls like a V8 at idle and you can hear the turbo spool at WOT. It's a little loud but I don't think it's as loud as the Mustangs and Camaro's, not to mention the Harley's around here. I have to admit that I'm a little paranoid when I see cops. Seriously, should I worry about the law? If so, would a glass pack satisfy them? I really like the way it is now and and wanted to keep the exhaust off. So if any of you can give me an insight on this, perhaps a story or two would at least keep me on my toes. Thanks.

Sup buddies! Ok don't laugh at me but ever since I can remember no one has really tought me how to properly down gear. My current driving habits consist of putting the transmission on neutral as I slow down. Don't call me lazy lol as that's the way I've been tought to drive and I've been doing it this way ever since I was 16. Now I've been trying to break that habbit and I've been downgearing as I slow down...the only thing is I've had my car lunge a few times as I down gear...I don't think I'm letting the clutch go at the right RPM's. I remember reading about matching revvs...but seriously, how do you do that? Do I blip the gas before I downgear? I don't know I'm also affraid to burn my clutch or something so you guys have to school me on this please be gentle...heh.

That is a very nice Z...any plans for a turbo swap in the future?

...prolly a dumb question as I would think that the answer is YES but just to be sure as I'm hacking my exhaust off soon. Thanks!

I have a new neighbor who is also a big Z buff and he told me that I should cut the muffler off and run a straight pipe. Now I have read a lot about this mod in here and I have heard how nice the turbo Z's sound without the muffler. Now here are my questions....would it be too loud? (remember it's a turbo) or is it a good kind of loud like say a Flowmaster exhaust? My neighbor has a straigh pipe in his NA and it sounds mean....I took a look at what he did and noticed that his piping is hidden under the car....is this ok to do? OR should I finish it off with a 3" tip and bring it up to the edge of the bumper? Ohh I just had a thought...I wonder how it would look if I had a muffler shop fabricate my exhaust to come out from under the drivers side near the rear tire....kind of like the Skyline GTR race car. hmmmm....thanks guys!

That hit me right in the ticker lol. Kind of reminds me of my dad. He ended up getting a 280Z which he loves to tinker with. Nothing like father and son bonding.

Polishing/Painting Konig's
ratedZ replied to ratedZ's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
why the heck did I put Konig on the header? duh! I meant Enkeis sorry -
Hey guys, well I think I'm about ready to start on my Enkei wheels that I got from a family member for $50.00. I just moved into a home with a huge garage so it all starts....Here are the stats: 15x7's, the lip is polished with two or three curb rashes BUT the rashes did not distort the lip...I think I can fix them by sanding it down. The center mesh is gold (eeck) and will need to be stripped so I can paint it black. So here is my question. I have a bottle of Jasko paint remover that I was going to originally use on my turbo wheels so I could polish them. Now the polished lip is not that bad and they are a lot cleaner than my turbo wheels...I think all it needs is a little sanding to shine and the lip has to be rounded off. Soooo, would using Jasco pit the aluminum? Either way I have to sand the whole wheel down as I want it to look really good. What sanding papers should I start with as far as grit goes....and what grit sand paper should I use to lightly sand the lip down to clean up the edges. Lastly, should I use some type of primer on the mesh before I paint it black? If you guys could recommend the primer and the paint that would help me out. I want the flat black look. And lastly, could I use regular 1/2 painters tape to tape off the wheel or is there a different type of masking tape that I should use? Obviously nothing can match the quality of powdercoating but as of right now my funds will not allow it so I’m going to have to put my own elbow grease to get these wheels on my Z. Anyway, thanks guys and any tip and help would be greatly appreciated.

I need advice on wheel height
ratedZ replied to ratedZ's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Dang that's a good job on the turn signals...I thought they where like the stockers you see on Fairlady's. Good job and I'll take a look at PepBoys and see if they still sell it. Thanks. Hey Miles....no I did not get anything, I've been having problems with my hotmail account being bombarded with junk mail making my account full. Could you re-send it? Thanks for your help! -

I need advice on wheel height
ratedZ replied to ratedZ's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Greimann, where did you get your clear turn signals? They look like JDM OEM lights. I made my own with plexi etc. but the one you have on your Z is sooooo much nicer. -

Anyone have tips on drifting? -
Guys, I need some advice. I'm looking into getting a set of 225/60/r15's for my new enkies but I have some concens. First off, my Z is lowered you could see a side shot of my Z by following this link http://www.zdriver.com/rides/detailride.php?cat=2&relIdx=11&vehId=69 now I want the tires to tuck nicely in the wheel wells thus the 60 series tires BUT I totally did not take into consideration the fact that the 225's would be wider ultimately making the wheels taller in height as well. This concerns me as I do not want to worry about my wheels rubbing. Sooo...would 225/55's still be too high? or should I go with 50's...again, I don't want to have a big ass gap in the well, I want it to fill out nicely. Thanks all.

My 83 zxt is the same exact way and it drives me ....alright, I tried wiggling wires and double checked the fuses but it still does it. It has a new battery, recently replaced alternator (had it tested and it's ok), replaced both negative and positive wires from battery to the starter...still no go. Anyone have a ZX that have any advice for me. My Z has been doing this for a while now and I'm about to have an aneurism if I can't make it stop. Oh, I also forgot to mention that the flickring would intesify as the engine revves...any more tips guys?????? THANKS!
