  1. Nothing says performance like having your own set of "flower power" brakes! Now all you need is one of those Teddy Bear wheels to set it off lol.
  2. oh come on...you can tell us
  3. thanks Thawk, where could I find such a fuel pump that is made to prevent vapor lock? I guess I wasn't too far off with my guess...
  4. Hey guys...just wondering here. It's been in the 100's here in Vegas and I have noticed that my fuel pump would make loud wheering (is that a word lol?) sounds. It would only do this when the car is hot or has been sitting in my hot garage. Now here's the question when it's hot out regardless if the car has been driven or if the car is sitting in a hot garage it would sometimes take a few tries to get the car started. It would be worse depending on the heat. Once it does start the pump would make noise and some black smoke would come out of the tail pipe. This problem has been haunting me for the passed two summers and just ignored it as the car runs fine once it starts. I've had a lot of people tell me last summer that the car is suffering from vapor lock....doesn't this happen after you drive the car? I've grounded my injector fan to come on everytime I shut the car off but this does not help. I've also put rubber washers in between the manifold and the bracket that holds the fuel rail to no avail. Could my problem be something else....like let's say the fuel pump? Would extreme heat affect the way the pump is performing? I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe the heat is taking it's toll on the pump...which in turn affect the way it operates at start up explaining the black smoke? aargh...I don't know.....hope you guys can shed some light as I'm barely feeling my way around this problem lol
  5. Do you guys know where I can find these Merkur injectors? I imagine the SVO once is a little easier to find...can I get them on the net?
  6. I'm running 13psi with the stock system. I can run 14psi safely without any further modifications to the fuel system. That's just my Z though...I've discovered that for some reason different Z's act differently. My best advice is to get the necessary tools to boost it little by little until you hear pinging...then turn it down a level or two. If I remember correctly scotty was running 18psi with just an intercooler and bigger injectors? I personally would stop at 18 because at that level the stock t3 loses it's efficiency. In other words a nicely set up t3/t4 would boost more at 10psi than a stocker would at the same psi.
  7. Are there any other 280zx owners who has been blessed with the not so automatic AC systems in their Z's? I wanted to know if your guys' heater only blow through the floor vents and defrost. For as long as I have owned mine I can't figure out why the heater won't blow through the front vents. AC works fine (I could blow harder through a straw but that's a whole nother subject) and it blows through the front vents like it's supposed to be. Did Datsun do this on purpose? If I remember correctly when I had an 82 turbo back when I was 16 it did the same exact thing so I'm wondering if that's the way it's supposed to me. If it is, I wish I knew who's bright idea it was so I could smack them in the back of the head ps. i don't need the heater right now as it's a 106 in Vegas but might as well ask to get it ready for the winter season

    V-8 914 Porche

Oh my god that is soo friggen sweet! I'm intimidated just by looking at it
  9. heh...it was pretty funny..should have been there to see these kids. I forgot to mention that the whole time that this was going on my wife was egging them on talking smack...she's crazy I tell you
  10. Wow what a rush....driving with my wife in the old turbo Z to get some gas minding my own business. In the distance I see two cars that seems to be coming up fairly quickly. One was an all black Supra with an aluminum wing and an all white Supra with what looked like an intercooler up front. Both these cars are probably 89? It wasn't the old one but the model before the new one...not sure what years. Anyway, the white one comes up on my left and the black one goes on the emergency lane and they box me in. Where on an open road late at night so cars where minimal and the road was clear. I was actually pissed off with the crap that the black Supra pulled as he was on the shoulder revving his motor and pacing my Z. I took a look at the wife to give her the heads up and she gives me the nod. Dropped it to third, spooled 13psi and made my wheels spin out of control until the car stopped fish tailing and finally hooked. The Supras did the same and I walked passed both of them. Light comes up, now the black Supra is on my tail and the white still on my left. I rev, they rev....light turns green and I dusted the crap out of both of them with a lot of wheel spin. Feeling the tension of being caught racing I slow down and let these dumb asses pass me. We go on our way and stop to get the gas I needed. Before we leave, I see them coming up and I though "oh crap" what are these guys up to now. Anyway, to make a long story short, they pulled up next to my Z and they wanted to know what I had under the hood....I just looked at them and smiled "it's stock" lol. It was priceless...turns out both Supras where bone stock (minus cone filter) with all the flash ie. pillar gauges, stickers ect. Looks like two more has fallen victem to my lowly Z
  11. You know, I've been thinking how sweet the "real" Fairladies look with the mirrors on the fenders. So I've been looking at mirrors on ebay and noticed that it's held in with one bolt. Looks like all I have to do is drill the hole for the mounting nut and run the wires. Anyone do this yet? I was also wondering how the original mirrors on my Z would look because the real 280zx Fairlady's mirrors have a slightly longer arm....guess I'll just have to do it and see.

    V-8 914 Porche

Those 914's are soo cool. I remember when I was 15 looking to buy my first car I was looking at RX7's, Porche 914's and a 280zxt. Needless to say I got the turbo Z and never looked back. I wouldn't mind owning one though...if I had one a V8 would be hidden under the hood!
  13. WOW that is a HUGE engine! I bet those turbos sing...
  14. I guess I'm lucky as I have a fellow Z nut that lives accross from us. He offered to do it for free but I didn't want to come in looking like a complete tard not knowing how to do these things. I think I know enough to give him a hand but it will be a learning experience for me. I've heard horror stories about the spring...I'll make sure to stand faaaar away just in case lol.
  15. I think a header would looks sweet...the only thing is I've had a lot of turbo guys tell me that for the amount of money you have to put out for minimal gains...it's not worth it. Again this is just second hand info. I guess if I had the money it took to get one made I would still do it as I'm sure it works hand in hand with other engine mods.
  16. Sorry I didn't clarify my self...anyway I got the catalog from Painless because I've been wanting to re-do everything to kill off some electrical gremlins. I'm going to order a book from Waytek and see what they have...I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg on this so I'm interested in what other companies have to offer.
  17. I don't know about you guys but seeing all those wires in that pic sends shivers up my spine.... I got the catalog too but you have to get their pricing through one of their vendors because they don't list it on the book. How much are the universal kit going for? I personally like the fact that Painless marks each and every wire.
  18. Just wondering how everyone is when it comes to being behind their Z's. I for one cannot get my lead foot off of the accelerator! There's just something about being behind the wheel of this 19 year old GT car that turns me into a mad man lol. Don't get me wrong...I drive VERY carefully and I don't cut people off or ride their bumpers but give me an open highway and she will see tripple digits very quickly. Now when I get into the family car (olds Alero) it's like nite and day. The fam mobile has some go too but I never get the urge to really get on it even when I'm alone. Anyone else suffering from this? Maybe they have a technical term for it or something.....
  19. Hey Codey..nice Z...reminds me of my first turbo Z. It was also red and It looked just like that minus the wheels. What type of wheels are those?
  20. Looks like the weight is the biggest issue. This can be aleviated (sp?) through removing parts of the body and replacing them with lighter parts like suggested above. I remember a few months back someone suggesting plexi glassing all the windows but if your like me I have to drive my Z daily so I think that would be impractical. Fiberglass parts and removing dead weight, ie...ac, power steering etc. would be your best bet.
  21. Hey guys...my drivers side suspension has been bottoming out and has progressively gotten worse. I'm planning on replacing the strut. I have never done anything like this before so I need some advice. Do's and dont's etc. I know I need to get a spring compressor...
  22. Man that is one sweet classic....timeless...
  23. Hey Mark don't rub it in lol. My Z would be a gross poluter if I didn't have to worry about it! Anyway, I've been told that you could plug off the hoses and it'll be ok.
  24. Thanks guys....Tim, I tried searching for "the big red button" in all threads but couldn't find it
  25. That old Skyline is soo sweet! Those guys in Japan are swapping RB's like it aint no thang.....very jealous over here
