COOL! That's exactly what I needed to know.

What do you guys think of this manual boost valve?
ratedZ replied to ratedZ's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Well I just bought the kit from Daves Devices for $50.00. Tim78zt, I told him that you sent me. can't wait!!! -
...92 pump gas? I should mention I live in LV and yes it's cooler here right now but will be seing 115 degrees in the summer time. Do I need to add octain boost now or is it ok with 92 octain until it gets hotter? As always I appreciate the replies.

What's so bad about he hydrolic lifters? I believe it's the P90A head? I know their discontinued and if they go south your SOL but other than that I've heard they where ok. I've looked at mine and everything is nice and clean and I run synthetics in my turbo engine. Your statement just kind of makes me paranoid especially when I'm planning on running 15psi in the VERY near future...like in a month. Should I add swapping out to a P90 in my to do list?

Anyone found a pillar mount for a 280zx yet?
ratedZ replied to ratedZ's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Ok, I'll answer my own question to help out other ZXT owners who's wondering the same thing. I spoke to a guy that has two pillars on his 280zxt and he said he used a pillar that was made for a 96 Honda Civic. He said that the fit was pretty close and he molded the rest of the plastic with a heat gun. Sounds easy enough. -
Is this the BOV you guys are talking about? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=597508073&r=0&t=0

Thanks Tim...I do have NGK plugs right now and I'm in the works of getting some Magnacor wires...just forgot to mention it. I'll ask you guy about MSD etc. when I'm to that point.

Tim78zt I'm not well versed on this part of the turbo system so if you could elaborate it would help me out. Also can I get away without doing this since I'm only boosting to 12psi? or do I have to worry about it now? As for the electronic boost controller, I will have to settle for a manual one for now as I don't have the money to spend on a $200.00 unit. Eventually though it will be done. Thanks.

Thanks guys for all the help. I will have to sit and think if I want to spend 150-200 on powder coating as I'm getting some 17" ADR's in February. I just wanted to make my turbo wheel look a little better in the mean time.
-
In other words it's just excessive noise and a DSM unit will work the same way...
-
COOL! Thanks I would have to find that product as I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for powdercoating. As for undercoating, should I just use regular primer?

ok guys...I want my 280zxt to breath 12-15psi of boost. Here's what's on my list. *Intercooler w/piping *3" cat back *Manual Boost Controller *Boost Gauge *DSM BOV *Modified stock pop off valve *MAYBE a rising rate fuel gauge? As I stated I'll be happy with 12psi for now with the stock turbo and fuel system...is this all I need to turn up the boost to around 12psi? What would it take to turn it up to 15psi...bigger fuel injectors and fuel pump. At what point do I need to think about fuel? I'm in the works of gathering all these parts and I've talked to people running 12psi and they have always told me how much difference there was between 6 and 12. But I'm also aware of the speed bug and I know I'll end up wanting to turn it up to atleast 15psi (after I get a t3/t4). Anyway, have at it guys and let me know what I overlooked and leave me some feedback. Thanks.

I do want it to be loud...I know it doesn't add horse power like a big Honda sticker does *snicker* but I just wanted to see the people's look on their face when they hear the big psssssssss sound. I'll hold off for now though and get me a DSM unit. I'll just spend the $120 I'll save and get a 3" cat back system.

Hey guys, I've been thinking of painting the center part of my turbo wheels (swaztica) black and leaving the lip polished. What type of paint do I need to use?

I need an IC too Scotty so let us know when you get some info.

I got a starion i/c, but its 16...how bad is this?
ratedZ replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I want to know as well. I have my eye on a couple of Starion units and didn't know that it made a difference. -
http://boostvalve.com/pricelist.html...it's cheap and it looks like it might work ok. Anyone ever use one of these. The only draw back I can see off hand is that it would have to be mounted in the engine bay close to the turbo.

Hey guys, I need a pillar mount to mount a boost gauge in my 280zxt. I haven't found any info on this and I'm left to wonder where the heck I'm going to mount the gauge. Any ideas would be great. I don't know if you guys remember the silver Aeroteck ZXT that was featured in Turbo mag...he had double pillar mounts...I wonder if modefied one that was made for a 300zx...

I need a blow off valve and I know I could use one from a Mitsubishi. Just don't know what year I should be looking at. I know someone that is selling one from a 1990 GSX and said that it can be used in an Eclipse 1995-99. Let me know. Thanks.

Hey guys, I think I've acquired some new grey hair these past two days when I decided to swap out my 83 280zxt's digital dash to the 79 analog unit. Here's an outline of my problems. A.) Turbo gauge does not work B.) Speedo jumps especially while decelerating C.) Talking lady has been silenced D.) Cruise control does not work I'm using a harness off of an 81 non-turbo (which I know now is a big mistake!) Please bare with me as this is somewhat hard to explain... A.) Ok to explain my findings with this problem....on the three gauge cluster for the turbo model, there are two wires that comes out of the unit that is separate from the wire harness...the colors are black and blue with a white stripe (the blue/white wire has a canister looking thing attached to it). These wires are connected directly to the turbo gauge. So thinking I could somehow run these wires to the 81 harness I joined the black wire (I think it's the ground) to a cluster of black wires in the harness...then I unraveled the blue/white stripe wire from the 83 harness and I connected it to the 81 harness (I inserted the pin to the same hole location on the 83...the 81 harness did not have a wire there so I inserted it to the empty hole which is a mirror of the 83 harness)(confused yet?...believe me I am) So I fire it up...the needle did move but it just pegged out to the right and didn't move as I revved the engine...normally the needle should be in the middle. So ok, I started messing with those two wires and I noticed that when I unplugged the black wire and vise versa the needle would go back to the left and then it would jump to the right when I re-plugged it. Grey hair number one has popped out at this point. Another idea comes to mind and I figured that I should also put the actual harness that is connected to the cluster pins to see if the wires are identical...they are but sure enough one was missing from each harnesses. Soooo...I take the missing wire from pin to pin and inserted it to the 81 harness...now it should work right? nope...so just for sh*ts and giggles I disconnected the harness but left the black and blue/white wire connected....the other gauges didn't work as suspected but the turbo gauge was still pegged to the right...what the heck is going on. B.) The speedo works and I got the car going 110mph...the only problem is the needle jumps up and down especially during deceleration...but I think I know what the problem is with this one. When I swapped out the speedo cable I crossed threaded a camp that holds the cable to the frame and I was only able to secure the cable with one clamp. I think that the cable is not stable because of the missing clamp making it jump up and down. Correct me if I'm wrong on this one. C.) Now for the talking lady...I also think I know what's wrong with this one. When I had the dash out I decided to take out the center speaker as it's blown...unfortunately I don't have the money to replace them yet so I left the speaker on the passenger side. Is that the problem? I'm iffy as I thought that the talking lady spoke on both the front speakers...but if she only speaks on the center speaker then my problem on this is solved. I'll just reconnect the speaker. Correct me here if I'm wrong also. PS. I can here here faint voice coming out of the box in the spare tire area but that's it so it does work. D.) Here...I toss my hands in the air because I have no clue what's going on. The light "ON" does come on when I press the switch located on the dash but it doesn't engage when I press the switches on the turn signal arm (decelerate, accelerate buttons etc.) Well, as you can see I have bugs to work out and I really need your help guys as I'm now out of ideas. I can't buy a turbo harness as they are almost impossible to find and I'm out o cash (figures). So I'm stuck trying to make things work with a non turbo harness if I want to be able to drive my car. Answer what you guys can...at this point anything will help. Thanks. ratedZ http://pub28.ezboard.com/bdatsun280zx The only board dedicated to the other...the 280zx

Hey guys, the turbo on my 83zxt has been making this god awful resonating sound while boosting replacing the whining sound I have grown to love. I already have a replacement but I haven't had the chance to do so because I still have to order an oil line. It's been doing this for a while now but I haven't felt a change in the power and the resonating sound eventually goes away once the car warms up. What could be causing it...could it be the impaler or the fins vibrating in the turbo at boost making the funky whining sound? I don't know what it could be but my causin was joking with me and he said that it almost sounds like Chewbaka when it does it lol. I'm going on a road trip from Las Vegas to San Diego in a week and I think it will be ok because like I said the car has the power and it just makes the sound when cold but I just wanted to see if any one else have ran into to this mistery sound before...let me know.
