Hey people, ive been contemplating the sale of my baby for a a few months now, i want to get an e36 bmw m3 to drift, the z is in excellent condition and in perfect working order but i want somthing different. heres a list of mods, not all the mods since everything on the car has been changed. body s30 1972 datsun 240z chassis mods: welded the frame, reinforced and has a 10pt cage, strut bars frnt and rear. corbeau seat. new rci harnes sfi , engine mods:, l28et front mount intercooler, new modified turbo, custom 3 inch downpipe, 3 inch exhaust, air intake, boost control, msa 4 row radiator, msd fuel pump. 2.5 inch IC pipeing. fuel cell, painless wiring harness, drive line: new centerforce df clutch, 4spd trans, r200 with cv axel swap, nismo gt lsd 2way, SUSPENSION: 4 way adjustable custom short stroke kyb real sports dampers, valved for drifting, with coilovers 450lb springs front, 350lb rear. camber plates, rca's "bump steer spacers" this car was designed to drift., modified steering rack to get more steering angle. outside: sport max 15+8 002 wheels, 5mm spacers, kandy blue paint no dents, scrapes, the body is rust free and mint. msa type 3 air dam, im asking $9000 FOR THE CAR. 2. ive used 85w140 on a corolla strut when i was real young and poor, it was really freeking hard.
  3. I am running an L28ET in my 240z drift car, i have been reving to 7300rpm, at a drift comp in indy saterday i lost my #3 cyl, i thought i blew a hole in a piston or lost some rings, so i packed it up, brought it home, and before i got involved in pulling the engine i decided to check the calve springs and rockers, well i threw a rocker off the intake side, fortunatly i found all the pieces and there was no damage that i can see, i reinstalled the rocker and adjusted the valves, runs good. My question is, how high can i rev a L28ET before i start bouncing rockers off. and is there anything i can do to insure this doesnt happen again?
  4. heres an odd one i was drifting at beaverun, in my 240zt and obliterated a cv joint on the 280zxt axels rt side...but the stub looks fine, im no metalurgist but i think the cv took the abuse instead of the stub axel. the cv boot was very twisted up, what could have caused this. binding? why would it not bind untill now, after a season of drift events on the car? is there some situation that might make it bind up?
  5. maybe if im lucky, the cardone will have been from a z car,
  6. damn, i might just have a drive line shop rebuild this one, thanks for the info, i returned the ghettozone axel "duratrash" and ordered a cardone from napa, and we will have to see on tuesday if it will work, if not its off to a drive shaft shop.
  7. i have a 72 240z that i swapped a r200 long nose into, i used the 280zxt donated parts, the swap was a success, for almost 8 months i have been drifting the car at events only, with no problems untill last week, while at an event i blew a cv axel right "passenger" side. i bought one from ghettozone and it came in, lookes to be the same part, spline count and length to the clip was correct, same as the oem 280zxt axel i pulled out, i un mounted the lower spindle pin and installed the new axel, but it doesnot seem to want to compress enuff to get the pin back in, still need about 1 inch of compression, are the ghettozone axels somehow different from the oem? i know it was a pain in the ass to get it in there the first time but damn im like 1 inch off and I and a friend were pushing the strut in with alot of force. should the upper "diff side" compress more, it seems like it compresses only 1 inch while the other side compresses 3 inches. Just to make sure the short cv axel is on the left "driver side" and the long one is on the passenger side. correct? is there any way to compress the axel any more
  8. turn in isnt the problem, i have -3 deg camber, and 12mm toe out...lol its darty as hell but once you get it sideways its nice. my problem lies in when in countersteering i run out of countersteer, the z doesnt have near the countersteer a s13/14 does, i find myself hitting the stops, even after i modified the rack... my plans were to add the msa carbon fiber flares "3 inch i belive" and push the wheels out 35mm, and further modify the rack to turn even further. i was just wondering if adding the spacers would effect the suspension oddly. but i am pretty confidant it woulnt be anything i cant deal with, but might not be thinking of every detail.
  9. any input on this? what are some advantages or disadvantages of having some 35mm hub spacers
  10. I have a 240zt i built to compete on a professional level in drifting it does very well but teh car still needs more development. I want to get more steering angle out of it , i made smaller rack spacers/stops, and ground another tooth into the rod inside the rack, this works much better than stock but i want to have more "more steering angle = less spins, i find myself hitting the steering stops too often, and still do not get as much steering as a stock s13/14 here are my plans 1. I have another steering rack i will take to a local machine shop and have the inner rod made a bit longer with more teeth "more teeth more turning" 2. since i have 16+8 0 offset wheels i am hitting the tc rods as it is now, so i will need to space the wheels further away from the tc rods and frame rail for more tire clearance when fully turned in. I was thinking some 35mm hub spacer adapters on all for corners. 3. carbon fiber zg flares, to cover up the wheels in an attempt to stop the tires from rubbing the fenders. my worries are that the wider stance will somehow effect suspension geometry, bump steer and that sort of thing, what are some things i need to be concerned with when adding spacers that big, and how wil it effect the handeling. anyone with more info on my idea please post.
  11. in 1998 i bought a r32 gtst with mods for 1200$ american "base car lot" you can get really nice cars from the military guys who are leaving and want to sell them quick. i had a really nice gts25t 4 door skyline it was an r32.5 lol i bought it for 1500$ off base and did the jci inspection on it myself. spent about 300$ on jic inspection and at a total of 1800 bucks for a perfect condition skyline with 68000 klicks on it. but those were average prices... the ae86's have gone from 300-800$ drift sluts to being 8500-12000$ collectors items. but cars are dirt cheap because the japanese belive in the lifespan system, after a car is 3 years old noone seems to want it. and about 8 to 10 years old are cheap as all hell.
  12. I lived in japan 4 years, and go there pretty often. when i go i am always going to car shops and race tracks and touge/ drift spots. having a s30 in japan is like having a 67 stingray in the usa. its a icon on japanese sportscardom. people do modify them, but i have never seen one i dident drool over as for a v8, i think most japanese thing v8s belong in luxury / vip cars, and will never out do the technologic advances in computer / turbo/4/6 cyl tuning. althow the infinity v8 twin turbo pics in a z made me wet my drawls, i dont think its common there. you cant really go buy a 350 ls1 at your junkyard but your correct i wish i would have taken an 88 camaro z28 to japan i saw one on a car lot going for like 12000$ "somthing i can pick up here for 12-1500$. What really surprised me was vw bug cost, i saw them for hi 12-15k range...baffeled by that one. and the chevy astro vans go for a pretty penny there also...i was trying to ship a cifero back but it had no state side model so i got tricked into not shipping it back for fear of never getting tags. but i know better know. next time i go im shipping a car back, i can pick up a r30-32 skyline for dirt cheap and ship for 3300$.. it would look good in the garage. and autoxing/ drifting hehehe
  13. who sanctions altmont anyway? thats not a drift assn event is it?
  14. DHALE 510 thanks for trying to help drifters. I have been drifting and racing 12 years, I was with scca autox for many years trying to get them on the drifting bandwagon, but they tryed to "how can i put it nicely, "Cock block my events". 4 years ago I hooked up with N.A.S.A and the U.S.DRIFT program, they gave me the backing to get my events in the midwest off the ground. having worked with scca for years and being true to the sport of drifting i can say my events, as well as almost all the events I have attended have been great, drifters are not hooligans, there is a bad side to every bunch. "how many road racers have thrown off the gloves on the side of a track ? My drift events are done in a very productive enviornment, we arrive early, the drivers help clean up the facility before and after the event, my drivers know to get after people doing donuts in the lot and have ran off lots of people. MY DRIVERS KNOW VENUE RESPECT, and i think 98% of the drifters at any event respect the property and laws and rules. A old school autoxer who has put on events since the 70s gave me some advice before i started holding events, it was to be friends with everyone when your not doing an event and be a loving father figure when you are at the events. and if you cant tell your best driend to stop doing somthing you are in no position to run an event. I have never attended an event at altmont, I have heard only stories. having success in my own events and being a regional director in the group that pioneered drifting in the usa "U.S.DRIFT" I know of a fix to the problem. 1. Loose the spectators completely, they are the hooligans. or charge outlandish prices to spectators. this would keep undesirables out. 2. get the cops to patrol the parking lot and event. an off duty cop or 2 or 3 is not going to break the bank, we hire a few for bigger events we do with IMPORT FACEOFF. 3.if all else fails change venues to a bit outside of town, a hour drive away from a rough part of town might be the ticket. there are thousands of circle/ figure 8 tracks that are perfect for drifting. i have found drivers will drive great lengths to drift but spectators generaly dont go over 45 minutes. Drifting is a great sport, and very productive for kids if it has good leadership. I have kids calling me to ask advice about things other than cars, general life issues. joining the military, going back to college, getting life back on track kinda help. I think the leadership and spectators are at fault, definetly not John q drifter.
  15. NO... This makes total sense... dont let people drift at sanctioned events, make them go where its much safer, the streets of california. everyone supports this, and i dont understand how the government can dictate who rents the track, just because a few rotten apples show up in the parking lot. 16. hts have been out in japan over 10 years, they are very popular with the drift guys. I went with some revalved kyb real sports dampers, those will surely come out soon in the states also, they are very simular to agx. i had casings made and valved for my harsh spring rates and to be a 1 3/4 short stroke. i am very pleased with my real sports, and cant say enuff good things about hts.
  17. hahahaa a year later people jump on my hts bandwagon...lol btw im loving the kyb real sports i had made.the car drifts like its on fire.. this is a good thread btw.
  18. my words, anything will drift, you just have to work a bit hard in certin cars. i started drifting a ae86 with cut springs and 140wt gear oil in the struts almost 12 years ago, and i found that the inputs will always be the same, but every car has its quirks. power or none its more driver than car, but a good car helps be more competitive. also some cars, like the ae86 show even the slightest mistake in driver input, where powerful car like the s13 can hide your mistakes, and keep speed up, and allow you to modulate throttle more. its all different technics you have to pick up with every car you change too ive drifted 86's ,skylines, rx7's , z's , supras, and lots more i cant think of, but i enjoy the ae86 the most, it actually feels right, you put in good driver inputs and you get good output. the z however i have only logged 2 drift events in it, and changed a bunch of stuff over the winter, but last season it was a slide happy maniac, like drifting on need for speed carbon, exactly to the tee. but with the 4.36 gear it made me have to be on and off the throttle too much, the bov was going psssssst every second, i swapped to a 280zx turbo ring and pinion, 3.60 i belive, and got bigger wheels, so i can actually put some power to the ground this season... but the z does definetly exaggerate the angle, first time i drifted it i thought i was getting really sideways, but i wasnt as far out as i thought after i saw some video..
  19. not a bite...lol but oh well, this is my season, the first real season with the new car, after testing and development, it will hold its own.. but if anyone wants to sponsor a drift car pm me, we can use whatever support is avalible, and the drift market for these cars is growing..
  20. why switch to the sube rack, is it faster, more angle????? more info, im interested
  21. atx s130, your tring for the nopi series.. me too i made the formula d pro am cut but dident have the ways and means to get from ohio to laughlin nevada, 40 hours each eay.. so im doing nopi and idc "international drift championship" you outta check them out www.idcracing.com looks like a cool series. good to see other z drivers trying to take it to the high dollar teams... good luck maybe ill see you around this season derrick usdrift midwest / outbrake motorsports www.outbrakemotorsports.com
  22. ahhhh, good to know i think the shorter steering arms is about all i will be able to do, it has alot of steering angle, but im looking for that last little bit, the difference in hitting the steering lock mid drift and thinking oh crap i thought i had more steering, or pulling out of a big angle drift i like the arizona z car ones with built in rca's those look nice. thats probably what im gonna get.
  23. im talking about mounting and modifing it to fit where the stock z rack fits, i have only seen a picture of the rack and it looks simular, and i know it has more throw than the z rack, and i can use stronger tie rods than the z cars. why would it turn the wrong way again?
  24. you cant see what i did to the rack, i disassembled it and cut 2 more teeth into the rod. and simpily removed the bushings, and trimmed the ends of teh rack housing 1/2 each side so on the car it just looks like a normal rack. I still want more angle, I think if i could fix this problem it would be competitive on a professional level.
