  1. how bout a old chevette that would be halarious, put it in black primer and give it some ricey flames, and put a powered by nismo sticker on the window...and dont forget a bookshelf wing made of real wood
  2. i have 86 toyota corolla ae86 autox and drift machine 72 240zt pro drift machine 74 datsun b210 runs on propane 2005 scion xb 2000 gmc 2500 savanna van
  3. yeah i have taken care of that, i have a modified stock rack, i cut more teeth into , and removed the spacers. but i want way more angle... its for a drift car. the modified rack is good, and greatly increased the turning radius and steering angle of the car, i still have less angle than some of the s13/14's out there at the track. will the motorsport steering knucles add anything more angle?
  4. The racks look simular in a pic i have, other than the whole manual and power difference. has anyone ever put a s13 rack into a s30 to try to get more steering angle, or power steering?
  5. is there anyware i can see exactly what needs to be done, the info looks so simple its confusing me. naviathan. are you just saying line up the input shaft and line bore holes to make sure its streight?
  6. There is a guy i used to autox who popped stub axels almost every event, he had some 13+10 race slicks on his welded r200 260z. I think the race rubber and welded diff are hard on the axels For drifting I am using r200 w/ nismo gt lsd 280zxt cv axels and 240z stub axels my hp is in the low 300 range, and i am using 205-50-15 cooper zpt tires. i have only run 3 drift events in the car since it was completed in september "off season" but i re checked them when the season was over, and they look fine "no magnafluxing or metal photos, just by eyeball" but i have had no problems with 240z stubs, I belive the road racers and autoxers are having stub axel problems due to the race tires and loads placed on teh stubs, witch in drifting, the only real load is subdued by the burning street tires. im not saying there by any means bullet proof, and i hope i never brake one with the 140 mph wheel speed happening.. but i have had no probs yet, but its still early to call.
  7. so i can put an L bell housing on a ka trans and install a l28 into a s13? well with mods to make the engine go in.. but this should work?
  8. drifting is all about fun, i think thats where alot of the older generation have problems with it, since racing is about times, and winning and drifting is a sport of its own. i enjoy autox and track days also, i own race tires, i know the proper way around a corner, but i really get hard about drifting, the whole sliding sideways a few inches from a barrier wall next to another car really does it for me... its more of an extreme motorsport, drifting is the rock and roll motorsport. its kinda like golf vs hockey theres a different skill involved in both.
  9. im all about this idea to put a l motor in a s13 now..
  10. is there any links for ka trans to L series block info, i tried searching but its pretty vaig. i can get a 240sx s13 with no engine and i have a l28/e88 just sitting around, might be fun.
  11. very true about driver being main part of drifting, well to an extent.. i have been drifting 12 years now, I have been drifting an ae86 for the last 5 years, being an event director for u.s.drift i am not able to compete at my own events, but in the past 3 years have been going to other events to compete, the ae86 is a great car, they are in my opinion "what drifting should feel like" a car where inputs matter so much, bad inputs = bad drifting. Yet, I recently switched to a 240z turbo, i have done alot of work to be able to keep up on a professional level. First time I had the car out was at Mid-ohio east coast Formula D PRO AM series qualifier, in witch the top 8 drivers were able to go to formula d qualifier in nevada" having never drifted the car i ended up making the cut and advancing to the formula d qualifier.. Although the 240z i have made drifts very well, and is a blast to drive, and kicks ass on a regional level, the car needs much more development and tweeking to keep up on a professional level. this means using everything avalible to you to make the car better, if everyone in formula d drifted the same car it would even the field, making it soley a drivers sport, but that isnt going to happen. Your going up against factory backed teams, big money sponsors..so you do what you have to do to survive in the big kids pool... on the other hand on a local level, just getting a car out and drifting it is always fun, and teaches alot about car control, I am in agreeance that anything will drift, but you have to work a bit harder with certin cars.. driver skill is truely the best , most needed component in any motorsport, but when you go against the big time players, thats when setting up the car becomes really important.
  12. i also made jack pads under the middle of the doors, this is nice to jack up the car from the sides without messing up your rockers.
  13. i stitch welded my drift z, it made a hugh difference, a little test you can do before and after to see the true effect of the welding is to 1. put a piece of masking tape 1 inch across your driver and passenger door seam to the quarter. 2. use a magic marker and streight edge to make a perfect line between the seam of the quarter and door. 3. cut the tape seam with a razor blade. 4. jack the car up, from a safe jack point on one side at a time, and mesure how much the line moves. i read this in a option magazine. do it before and after On my 240z i stitch welded the entire car, every seam, under, engine bay, hatch, door seams. frame seams, everything. i had 10mm of play in the line before and now after welding i have less than 1mm, i added a 10pt cage also, but the line doesnt move enuff to create a gap in the sharpy marker line. so it definetly stiffened up the car, i also added strut bars, and modified the frame rails with thicker metal, and torsion bracing under the cubby boxes.
  14. I have a purpose built s30 drifter, i used one off kyb real sports dampers, brp coilovers with 450lb front springs 350 rear, camber plates, bump steer spacers.it is set up for professional drifting competition. it really drifts awesome, but it would be very scarey to drag or go down a main streight away of a fast race track, i am running 12mm toe out, but even still anything over 100mph you woulnt feel planted to the ground and minor inputs can have a dramatic effect on the car, i think the rates i selected are great for all out drifting, but your right drift and drag is an odd combo, i would stick with the safe set up like what the road race guys are doing, and just change some settings and tires when you want to drift. I think the biggest thing in making the z drift is modifying the steering rack to get more angle. the z has so little turning radius stock. i have added alot of angle to mine but still am not where the s13/14 guys are.. i am designing wobbly t/c rods so i can get more steering without hitting the t/c rods. with more angle you will not spin as often as with stock rack due to being able to pull out of drifts without hitting steering lock, and get more angle while drifting. 15. maybe there are made in different factorys, i know FHI has many different factorys in different locations, maybe the specs for build were different in japan vs the usa.. my wife works at pacific industries " makes parts for toyota" in usa and japan..and there are noticable differences in the parts made here in the usa, and in japan, lets say a camery rear deck panel, it might have a different look after it was stamped and nuts may be welded a different way...little things, maybe the clutches in the diffs are the same way..
  16. i dident know theey made single cam rb20 in 95 i had a few skylines when i was in okinawa japan, i had a r32 gtst and a r32 4door gts25t, both were quick, i have drove r32 n/a skylines with rb20de and there pretty peppy, im confused as to what engine if its a 95 skyline, how much do you want for it? send me some specifics im very interested in it derick driftz240@aol.com
  17. btw, the part number on the zxt cases are different from the r31 unit, but i cant find anything different between them. the 280zxt axels fit it and so do the s12 silvia/s00sx cv axels. all seem to be the same
  18. i have the same unit in my z, its from a r31 skyline, the number on the case is the same as the one we swiped from an r31 in okinawa., it is identical case to the 280zxt diff but different ring and pinion, and much more agressively packed clutches, same nismo unit but saposedly much better clutches.. i just opened mine up again to swap out the gear to a 3.5 from a 280zx turbo, the 4.3 with the 4 speed is psyco...mines a drift car "s30" and i dont want that much wheel spin...lol
  19. where you at in cincy? im in fiarfield.
  20. if you need suspension advise, i designed some drift suspension for a z31 a friend owned, it worked great.... derrick u.s.drift midwest
  21. alexidwayz you a drifter? ive been wanting to wander up to canada to do one of those dmcc pro drift events, i here there a blast...
  22. i made a s30 drift car and it does well, i imagine a s130 would be easier... my s30 feels alot like well prepared s13s ive drifted, you do however have to put hours and hours into developing the parts needed to do it...steering rack mods, lsd, suspension...and other little nitnoid tings... i say go with the z...be the only guy out at drift events without a s13...that stands out to judges also when you have somthing that noone else does.. derrick usdrift midwest outbrake motorsports
  23. Not sure where to post this.... We are currently looking for serious sponsors for the 2007 season, where better to look than the z car related folks themself.. if anyone would like info on our team and what we are doing i will post a bio and contact info.. sorry if this is in the wrong area or if people have a problem with it being posted... thanks for your support and keep it sideways derrick DRIFT TEAM OUTBRAKE Team info and driver biography Drift team Outbrake was started in 1996 in Okinawa Japan by Derrick Allen, The team and its members grew in skill and notoriety, not only in Japan but in the United States. To promote myself and my sponsors in a positive way by drifting as many hi profile events as possible, Formula D and Drift mania “DMCC†Canada’s new pro drifting series, as well as doing demos and getting the sport of drifting out there to the masses, all while keeping a humble, positive attitude, and having fun. THE CAR ENGINE 2.8 TURBO POWER: 325HP Weight 2250 lbs Outbrake motorsports has built this car from the ground up to be a serious contender in the Formula D pro drifting series. Many of the suspension and upgrade parts needed for drifting are one of a kind parts developed by outbrake motorsports. The car is a favorite of the spectators at all the events due to its classic styling and appeal, and loud kandy blue paint. Looks that kill and performance to back it up. The most common reaction from spectators and other drivers seeing the car for the first time is jaw dropping awe, the paint work was done by 131 collision in Milford Ohio, and there meticulous attention to detail definitely shows in this automotive work of art.
