  1. More shock q's. Ok, so I got ahold of the oil shocks I was looking for and needed for an upcoming event. My next question is this: What spring rates are they valved for? I mean you can alway run any rate you want, but what are the ideals? Next, in the tech section it states this about the HTS: "45 way adjustment at top accommodating 2.5 to 15kg/mm spring rates, low-height AE86 stoke" Now a friend of mine who knows a lot about suspension was going over the shock dyno below. It's for the HTS. Now he didn't see how it was possible to be rated for such a high spring rate if you rate the force kg/m and the time in sec? I think. I'm no shock master by any means that's for sure. Corey Auto racing is an addiction cured only by poverty 1987 GTS Coupe currently ??? http://www.splparts.com Yeah, The HTS things were right out of a manufacturer's touting of the HTS, written back in the 80's. We have used them for 4kg/mm rates and up to 10kg/mm ratings. They are pretty usable for these ranges but the more important factor is whatever the rate of the springs you use, the character and the balance of the valving between compression and expansion is the key to making your car handle the way you want. We've seen the HTS to be variable effectively on the compression side but somewhat lacking in range on the expansion or (rebound). Keeping this in mind, it is effective for places that need a fast reaction to initial inputs but not in places where a certain behavior is needed to be maintained. Taka likes to use stronger shocks to control the expansion rates since compression amounts and speed can be somewhat controlled by the spring rates itself. On the 45 way adjustemt...I guess with the valve controls being a infinately adjustable analog curve, you can pick 45 different places on the shocks but generally, it can turn 7 times and the range being what it is, I'd like to think of the HTS as a 7 way... as breaking it up into 45 settings is virtually useless in such small increments unless you are making a graph such as above? Remember, shocks controls the "speed" or "response time" of suspension against a load, and springs and assist springs like sway bars, adjust the "amount" of suspension movements.
  2. you should take my word for it..... you guys seem to devote alot to shock graphs, what if you build the ultimate suspension via the numbers and what all the graphs and wheel weights , corner balanceing say they should be and you dont like how the car feels... if you want a dyno graph im sure its out there someware, maybe www.club4ag.com , im sure gabe tyler from t3 "techno toy tuning" can vouch for the hts as being a awesome strut since he builds alot of ae86 enthusiast "such as myself". "I MESURED AND I WENT ASFAR AS TO DROP ONE IN A 240Z FRONT STRUT CASE, ITS A 2 INCH SHORT STROKE AND WAY BETTER THAN ANY ILLUMINA OR MR2 STRUT YOU CAN FIND...WITH MUCH BETTER RANGE OF ADJUSTMENT..JUST OFFERING AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE GRIPEING YOU ALL DO ABOUT WITCH STRUTS SUCK....IF THE GUYS ARE LOOKING INTO WHAT CARTERAGES WILL FIT WHY NOT MAKE A LIST OF THE ONES KNOWN TO FIT....MAKES SENCE..ALL IVE LEARNED IS WHAT SUCKS....LOL HERES WHAT I HAVE FOUND WITHIN 1 HOUR OF PLAYING WITH STUFF I HAD LAYING AROUND FROM OTHER CARS 240Z FRONT SHORT STROKE 1 .88 MR2 REARS, 2 INCH SS. STRUT ROD NOT GONNA FIT TEH MOUNT WITHOUT 5 MINUTES OF MODIFICATION, KYB AGX MAKES THEM IN A 8 WAY ADJUSTABLE, TRD MAKES ALL OUT RACE SHOCKS FOR THIS ALSO,WITH MANY DIFFERENT VALVING COMBOS, ILLUMINA FROM SAME MR2 WILL WORK 2. TOKICO HTS, "THE BEST DAMN DRIFTING SHOCK FOR AE86 PERIOD... VERY ADJUSTABLE 40MM SHORT STROKE 3. KYB AGX 95 MR2 FRONTS 4 WAY ADJUSTABLE, WILL BE A 30.8MM SHORT STROKE, SAME ON ALL MR2 STRUTS MINOR MODS WILL BE NEEDED TO THE UPPER HAT. 4. 95 MR2 KYB-AGX REARS WILL BE A 1 3/4 SHORT STROKE IN THE REAR THEY ARE 8 WAY ADJUSTABLE , ILLUMINAS FROM THIS MR2 WILL FIT SAME.. I WOULD RECOMMEND IF YOU LOWER OR SHORT STROKE A CAR YOU REPLACE WHAT YOU CUT OUT BELOW THE STRUT IN THE FORM OF BUMP STEER SPACERS OR ROLL CENTER ADAPTERS AS SOME FOLKS CALL EM..TO GET THE SUSPENSION GEOMETRY BACK TO SAFE RANGES. SINCE THE REARS HAVE THE STOOPID PINS AND NO WAY OF REALLY GETTING THE SUSPENSION GEOMETRY CORRECT AFTER LOWERING /SHORT STROKING I WOULDENT GO CRAZY WITH THE LOWERING, OVER 2 INCHES SEEMS TO LOOK LIKE IT WOULD BE OVER KILL TO ME, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW... anyway, i really like this site, its very informative but some of teh gripeing on here makes me not wanna hang out in here, alot of bashing other peoples ideas...alot of people think there way is the best way, the whole beauty of being a car enthusiast is doing different stuff than the other guy, and in racing if everyone ran the same suspension, dampers, spring rates / camber settings it would be totally gay, every driver is different, its apples and oranges with driver feeling vs shock dyno graphs.... i admit im no shock engineer, but i am a driver, i know what i like and what makes the faster times for me and what im driving, it takes more time than saying this shock and this valving is what will make your car fast.......sorry to rant great website...but some people need to relax abit....

  4. i found a good short stroke for the 240z tokico hts 102 built for the ae86 cut 40mm case these things are crazy good...but japan only, can be ordered from a few places, sometimes on ebay...about 350 for a front set... and support higher spring rates than johnc would reccomend....lol

  6. anything will drift , just some cars seem to do it easier , smoother and with less aggrevated initiation.... i think the zx drifts fine, theres a guy that comes out to our u.s.drift events with one and does well with little done to it... id say the lsd is critical, some basic suspension mods are good also, i helped to build a z31 drift car for a friend, we ran into suspension travel issues using the tokico illumina kit he bought, as well as overheating nearly after every run...not alot of air flow threw those cars...id have to sat in order of drift potential id rate the z cars as fallows on a stock car heres how i rate them #5 z31 "the squater, transfers weight to rear and gets weird rear camber in the process, not alot of ummmmph , no lsd in early cars.. #4 s130 , turbo form had enuff power to do almost anything, no lsd.. n/a car still gets sideways, just woulnt keep the tires on boil like the turbo #3 z32 nice car with out hicas, turbo has good power kinda porky, nearly impossible to drift hicas car.... #2 s30 light and tossable, good torque, that keeps the 14 stock wheels on fire, very easily controled in a slide, carb cars vapor locked when you beat the sheit out of them , 180 diff explodes after too long...no lsd #1 z33, i drifted one of these at teh tirerack test course in southbend, omfg....for a base model it rocked, tires on fire in 3rd gear, controls nice with throttle inputs, decent steering angle, we had every light on the dash on, cant kill it......myself , and 2 others pounded this car all day and it never skipped a beat....never over heated, oddly since the bumper looks so restrictive...
  7. if theres any drift z guys www.outbrakemotorsports.com im putting together a formula d s30, should be shaken down real soon, trying to hit teh new jersey qualifier in a few months.. but ive been developing alot of things for drifting s30s.. the z drifts like a champ and its funny the looks you get when you drift teh nads off a classic.....

  9. HEY JOHNC Heres the secret sports setup, have fun unless your a translator www.sissk.co.jp/secretsports.htm they offer a adjustable drop in, i belive 1.8 inch short stroke and valved very agressive..but im told there to be the hot setup these days in japan for s30 TRY WWW.TECHNOTOYTUNING.COM gabe tyler makes some parts for the z cars, like rca's "ROLL CENTER ADJUSTERS, "AKA" BUMP STEER SPACERS. some one mentioned the spacers, hes got great products and is pretty reasonably priced... nice of you to bring that topic up by the way....

  12. I Need A Strut Assy Anyone Got One, I Rearanged The Molicules While Beating The Strut Pin Out Of It.......and Heated It To Life Threatening Conditions To Get The Pin Out, I Got It Half Way Out.......ooops The Other Came Out Easy But I Need A Left Rear Assy, Anyone Got One Or Know Where I Can Get A New One, Im Just Gonna Short Stroke It Anyway So Used Is Fine..thanks
  13. by the way what is mm do they have a website?
  14. I was thinking of getting the brute force or a kazz lsd and putting it in the r200 from the zxt, thanks for the advice on the axels adapters, thats what i shall do, but they look longer do i need to modify them at all. i may be wrong but the 180 and axels installed and the r200 with axels installed look different
  15. i have a 72 240z , i did the turbo swap, and am swaping the diff as well i want to use the 280zxt diff, mounting the diff is no issue, but the axels are 6 bolt on the zxt diff and the r180 is 4 bolt.. what axels do i need to mount to the 4 bolt spindle stubs????? and what lsd should i use, i was thinking power brute...cost effective? what would you guys do?
  16. im a forklift mechanic, there are industrial fork trucks with L30 motors, not sure how strong the internals are, i think there simular to the nissan military trucks in japan back in the 80'S and looks to be the same as the l series nissan blocks in the z cars... but some tcm / nissan / komatsu forklifts use the nissan L30 NOT SURE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU CAM IT AND ADD TRIPLE WEBERS. but ive thought of trying it for fun
  17. dude you guys rock, ive been into cars a long time and i recently swapped a l28et into my 240z, i used info posted on this site by many of you, it was super helpful and i did the swap in no time flat, with absolutely no bugs or defects.... im a member of alot of boards but i think the people on this site are very helpful and know there stuff...cudo's to all.... look for the outbrake motorsports l28et powered 240z in formula drift in 06..cheer us on.....and thanks for making the swap a breeze....
  18. im building a 240z for formula d pro drifting, anyone know some mods or products avalible so i can get some more steering angle, or a different rack to swap into it, anything like that?
  19. anyone get this, is it pretty much scuff and paint ot do i have to do massive corrective surgery on it to get it to fit right....
