  1. And now the final post as of Yesterday, after which I will try to uypdate the thread regularly, it been bust four months lots of parts are on order and coming to dubai needed to finish the car

Its the new gray shade which is on Lambo Aventadoor, I just slightly added silver and aluminium more.

Ok now the details, very happy with the paint itself and the paint job.

I went for Dupont chromobase paint, including dupont epoxy primer, thinner, activator and their new chromo clear coat. I have visited their main office here in Dubai to discuss the whole project and was advised on some things which turned out nice.

This is the thinner and chromo clear coat which was used. According to lots of reviews this clear coat gives the least amount of swirl marks, more like scratch resistant.

    71307cf0.jpg

First always use all compatible materials and then followed their guidelines on mixing, spraying and curing.

Car was primed in their epoxy primer which gives the best binding for paint.

They advised me to first warm the whole car at 60 deg C which was done then basecoat. As this colour is kind of 2 stage so first it was painted 3 coats of first base coat which was more blackish then 2 coats of aluminium and silver mixture. result was like drooooool

Really happy with the outcome of the shade, very very close to what I wanted. I was tempted to do matte clear coat as it was looking really HOT.

I was advised to do 4 coats of clearcoat if I was looking for a showcar finish. Two coats first then sand the whole car with 1500 grit paper a quick compound polish and then again 2 coats. But after doing 2 coats I was satisfied and called it a day. 4 coats would have been better with some brighter colour.

I like how the shade changes from silver to GM to dark GM.

Then after lurking here and there for few days I ditched all blue and green but went for new gray Grigio Estoque, did made some custom changes in it slightly lighter by 15%.

  8. After searching the whole country found a place

    Post copied:

Car is in a workshop getting engine mounting done at the moment.

Installing, making mounts for engine, gearbox and differential, and custom half shafts.

Engine going in is from later model (99-2003) R34 GTT 2.5l RB25DET NEO, slightly revised version of older RB25, mainly solid lifter, revised camshafts and a larger stock turbo.

    27404mgmy3.jpg

Gearbox will be same from R34 5sp.

Rear differential is from Z31 and half shafts from 280zx.

    Some pictorial

It really took me over a month to find a place who can go the custom jobs I required. I searched literally all over the country (500 mile radius), finally found something very close to my place (not Dubai but Alain). This is the place a small one but good thing is they only do these old Zs and can do any modification required.

One skyline and few 280zx standing.

Its been waiting here for an engine coming from USA, fully stroked and multi carb setup.

    img9241e.jpg

    img9240o.jpg

Coming to bossiness, engine mounting are done and some are sent for lath person for pressing and some installed.

Gearbox will be assembled soon can be seen lying on the right side with drive shaft.

    img9204u.jpg

R33 drive shaft going in, final length still needs to be decided

    img9217b.jpg

    Differential mounts are done

    img9210v.jpg

Some problem with a good news and bad.

Good news is the previous owner from California reinforced the chassis and I thought that its just the front he was talking about but looking under the car there are reinforcement beams running full across the car. Installer was surprised to see all this, and he said its very difficult to get this kind of job done here, he rated it with maximum marks. He said I can install any engine with this kind of work.

Now the bad news is in US maybe the weld spots are ok and can be cleared easily at time of registration. But here its needs to be grinded else car cant be registered. So painter need to flip the car upside down and grinding all the joints and colour it again.

Weld spots are more visible in the front

    img9215f.jpg

    Few spots in the middle

    img9212l.jpg

At the rear there is a beam for a heavier differential as well

    img9211k.jpg

    img9208bh.jpg

Engine bay beams from top seems to be okimg9206k.jpg

  9. Hi guys, I have been lurking here on the forum for almost a year. did an intro thread back in June

    http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/100796-hello-from-dubai/page__p__944810__fromsearch__1#entry944810

I bought this Z from Rimal310 back in June 2011 I guess, and got it shipped by August to Dubai, it reached here sometime in October. I will be copying from posts from another forum where I was updating my built thread and from now will update it regularly.

I really had difficult time starting the car here because of difficulty in finding missing parts which are easy to get from US but hard to find here in dubai, like differential, half shafts etc.

    Ok lets start now :)

    Car reached Dubai.

Picture of same day car came and dropping at the workshop

Some more pictures, after looking at the car its a bit more work then expected but Im ready for the challenge :driving:

  10. So anyone? I went to junkyeards here and I found these differentials here

    R32 GTR

    R32 GTS

    06 Armada front diff

One guy had a 06 WRX diff as well

I saw R200 installation kits for Q45 (cant find) and Armada as well, techno guys are selling moustache bars for GTR diff, if i get those shipped from USA but still need help about shafts and axle assembly?

  11. You said can but I think you meant can't.

This thread covers most of what you're asking about, I believe. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/49194-differential-cv-lsd-hp-torque-r160-r180-r200-r230-diff-mount/

    Thanks for the correction

I have gone through the thread, it does tell all the different differentials, I need a help in where to start from, cant get axle's as well. So what are the best options and what axle/Cv joints goes with which diff as honestly I was a bit lost there, as if you have something in the rear end then its a bit easier to upgrade but here its nothing

  12. I would start off by just sourcing stock R200 diff and axles unless you are planing on drag racing the car on slicks and massive HP & Torque.

Stock R200 bits are very stout... I think you have missed a lot of diff swap threads in the drive train section, cause if it can be done, it's been covered here ....

I have gone through lots of thread but Im sorry I think you missed my point here, I can't get any stock Z parts here from easily (very rare) either its the S30 or 280Zx or even the 300ZX, parts are there from Z33 onwards.

As of now I dont have anything on the car as well, so what could be the best starting point for diff and other bits?

    My hp goals are +250whp

  13. If you're going to upgrade the engine why not the drivetrain as well? R180 parts are probably scarce on the market because people just junk them.

The short nose swap doesn't have lots of cutting but it isn't for the faint of heart either. Many have done it around here using different methods, and they're all pretty well documented. You can certainly buy the kit, but I imagine shipping will be painful. However, if you want the easier long nose swap, you'll probably have to ship in the CVs and whatnot so either way...

    Thanks for the reply

As of now I as I said Im a bit lost, for which differential to go for, shipping is a big issue as well (minimum 500-800$ just for shipping).

So which R180 you are talking about, as I said lots of parts from Japan are here in junk but newer models only.

For me I just need an advice whats the maximum I can buy from here to do the swap it can be anything from sti to Q45 or even a R32 diff as want to avoid shipping as much as I can, and main lost point are the axles and CV joints

I thought I should look into drivetrain after getting the diff?

  14. Hey guys, I have been reading all the differential threads and contacted some people as well, but being so far and with limited resources Im a bit lost somehow because of not having that much information about S30s and second very rare here as well.

I bought a 240Z without any engine, gearbox, drivetrain, diff, axles and brakes and got it shipped to dubai. Car reached here two weeks back, I have seen the market for parts engine, gearbox is not an issue at all (I am tied between RB25DET or VQ35DE). My main problem is I cant find anything stock either its Axles, CV joints or R180/R200 differential from Zs.

The things I can source are newer model parts only from Armada, Q45 differential, STi's R180 with shafts and axle can be arranged as well. I also found some people who install (lots of cutting and weld in body) R200 shortnose R32 differential in the S30, but just heard as its in a different city.

So for me I need to know where to start from and what should I get from the scrape yard Q45 differential/Armada or Sti and get some mouting kits from MMM or Arizona but then whats the best solution to complete the whole rear end CV joints and axles, as thats the main problem I am finding.

Second question is can a 350Z R200 short nose can be fitted in S30 chassis, as if I go for VQ swap I am planning to get a full car from junk yard and take things out from it if needed.

I will appreciate some help on these issues.

  15. I am trying to install RB25 engine(havent decided yet turbo or NA) but the problem is I cant find any differential here either its R180 or R200. Are there any other differentials which can be fitted with minimum cutting?

Thats the one thing which is holding me to buy the gear and gearbox.

    any help will be appreciated.

  16. nice thread, I am in the same boat just a bought a 240Z wihtout engine/gearbox and drivetrain. My other car is 370Z which I dont want to boost so SR will fit the bill. As the car is lighter so I think it will be faster then my modified 310whp 370Z
