what about the wiring harness from the automatic can i still use that on my standard tranny or doesn't that matter? -
i posted a few months ago about putting a vg30et in to my 88 hardbody nissan. it's in!! not running but it is in tranny and engine. any way i got a question i'm hoping some on can answer me. when i bought the wiring harness and ecu last spring and they are from a automatic 300zxt see my truckis a manual tranny with a 300zxt motor in it. i have been told i can't use a automatic 300zxt ecu on a manual tranny 300zxt? is this true? if so can i at least use the wiring harness? and just plug in a manual tranny

check ebay, every once in a while there are twin turbo kits for GM small blocks. i have seen a 500ci caddy motor in a chevette not a corvette. a chevette the air filter was under the windshield and the driver was where the back seat used to be but the beast was in there that just proves that just about any motor can go in just about any car.

is it worth the effort to put a eletric fan on my IC to pull the air through? is it worth the effort?

scott, not trying to offend any one here. or maybe it's my lack of knoledge on GN'S. a friend of mine has 3 GN'S and i'm fairly sure they are 84, 86, and 87 that her has. the only one intercooled is the 87. i maybe wrong. how can i tell by looking at them by the year? i noticed the turbo is in the back on his 84 and 86 i believe and the 87 the turbo is in the front. i have just taken up some recient intrest in the buick GN series and still do not know alot about the. so if i'm wrong and i verry well maybe. sorry about that
-
actually only 87 GN had an IC. i got a nice IC from a ford thunderbird turbo i cut both in and out ports on the IC they was way to small. so i cut off the ends of 2 throttle bodies i have and welded them to the IC now it's 3" in and out. it's a nice IC and not a whloe lot smaller than an GN'S ic

it fits in, yay (vg30et in 1988 nissan truck)

i bought a thunderbird intercooler and modified both the inlet and the outlet to 2 1/2 in diamator so i should have a good flow rate. as far as a larger turbo. i doubt that will happin. i just wanted to have more than the origanal 115hp the the 4 cylinder had. 70 mph down I-95 or I-495 to mass. sucks! even the cops fly past me. how do you guys think my gears will hold up on my rear end? should my truck be fine or not. a buddy of mine said it should be fine. but i'm not 100% sure -
have you looked in to any other alternitives? like a v8? i only say this becasue the vg30edtt is a bitch to work on. also they are very cramped in a 90+ it's going to be just as cramped if not more in a z31. i have seen it done. so i'm not saaying it can't be done. besides turbo's are just a replacement to cubic inches any way. v8 is much cheeper to work on and much more easy. just a suggestion.

i got my vg30et in to my 1988 nissan truck. so far it's just sitting in the. but it is bolted to the transmission. big puls!! i am very pleased with the results. it's a cramped space but enough to work with. i'm just woundering, any one here think my vg30et truck will beat one of the new nissan frontier supercharged trucks? well assuming i can ever get her finished.

the motor i have is from an automatic. the only spare fly wheel i had is from an 87 i called the dealer he said. 10 of 1983 to 9 of 1986 are all the same. my fly wheel is from an 87 non-turbo and my motor is an 85 turbo. so the flywheel i have will not fit. thankfully a junk yard near by just happin to have a flywheel from a turbo 300zx for $35. i bought it. and it fits fine. problem solved.
-
no, the flywheel will not blot up to the motor. the 6 lug pattern is not the same. i was 100% sure they was, but not now. the bolt holes do not line up. they are very close. close enough so i can get 2 bolts started. but the rest will not go in. Lockjaw Rotate the pressure plate, there is no difference in the flywheels. The clutches and clutch diameters are the same and interchange with the Zx 2+2 and turbo. That would be 280ZX 2+2 and turbo BTW.

warning: do not try this at home try an put a vg30et in to a truck. it's f#$% stupid. i should have just put a 4 cylinder turbo from a 85 200sx lighter and i would have had more space. oh, this doesn't mean i'm giving up! i have decided to shorten my front drive shaft and add to my rear drive shaft. so i'm moving my transmission foward. motor and transmission are back out of the truck. and i removed the front section of the truck so i can put both of them back in, in one piece. it makes life a whole lot esier. i also added a 3" body lift so i have a bit more room to work. i was hoping the body lift would help me with my exhause delema where it crosses over the transmission. but it didn't i solved that problem any way. oh, if any one has a flywheel for a nissan 300zx TURBO. i need one. i have a non-turbo one but the bolt holes do not line up correctly

To Anyone with a spare VG30 in thier shop/back yard

your manifolds will not fit upside down. i was not aware the the trucks where multi port fuel injected. i thought they where throttle body injected. i also do not know alot about 90's nissan's i havn't had a whole lot of chances. any way, if you just want a turbo on you motor it may not work. your compression may be too high to add a turbo. if you can add a turbo will need a ecu up grade and larger injectors and a larger exaust system most likely. -

do you want to turbo or just be multi port fuel injected? if turbo, it may be esier to modify your stock manifolds to except a turbo. and just use a lower and upper plennum from a 300zx to bolt to your motor. and make a custom M.A.F.etc.... -
single turbo, vg30et

1FASTKINGCAB: looks like it will clear the frame rail fairly well. it will fit better when i move the mount foward so i can bult it to the motor. i have a little space so i may be able to space the motor up a bit. maybe 1/2" maybe a bit more. Member Member # 2786 posted September 18, 2002 05:21 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- am I to under stand that the stock 300ZX turbo & driver side manifold fit? How did the turbo clear the left frame rail? This weekend a local shop was going to look into swaping my cyl heads and mounting the factory manifolds backwards so the crossover pipe runs across the front of the motor to the turbo on the front of the pass. side head. but all this was because we thought the stock location would not work. -------------------- '95 Nissan Kingcab Pickup (VG30E-T) VG30E -to- VG30ET turbo conversion in a '95 Nissan Pickup now that's Hybrid! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ZcarDRIVER: just the piping. the transmission is fine. randy 77zt: becasue of the location of the exhaust ports i do not think that is possible. and the manifold bolts are prolly a bitch to get out any way they usually are. clint78z:i ordered a 3" lift. as far as moving the crossover pipe that more effort than it's worth at this point. besides i do not have the tools to do it with. i took the A/C off. i live in maine so it's really not nessary.

my next delema the exhaust that goes up over the transmssion and the upper plennup both hit my fire wall and i'm about 3-4 inches away from bulting to the trans. the most easy way i see is give my truck a body lift. oh yay, i get to look like a red neck! but i think i will be able to clear the fire wall with the exhaust if i do this. much easier than cutting a big hole in my fire wall and moving the heating ETC.... as far as the upper plennum i think i have enough room to give the fire wall a TAP with my hammer enough to give me the room i need. i hope all this work is worth it. what do you guys think?
