  1. I am thinking about building a L20AET with L20A and L28ET parts I have (for the sake of off boost MPG and being different). I have 3 L20A blocks with the following markings: 1= 2 M3 E30 9524X 2= 2 M3 E30 7003B 3= E30 7330A As for pistons: I also know that I have flat and domed pistons from NA L20A engines (I am unsure if I have dished or if the L20A was fitted with dished pistons). What should I use? I don't want to have to order custom pistons. Is there a source for L20A/L20AET pistons (besides Nissan Japan)? RODS: I have NA L20A rods, Would I need to consider rod preparation like shot-penning? Or should I find L20AET rods? The cylinder head, manifolds, etc.: I have the 05L Skyline head, the P65 head, and the E31. However, I would like to get better flow and thought about using the P90 and all the manifolds and such from the L28ET, as I was reading a post that Tony D made (on zcar.com) that stated: "Everything you bolt on a 2.4 2.6 or 2.8 bolts onto an L20A--this includes, but is not restricted to head, intake manifold and turbo charger." EFI: I want to get it working on stock l28ET ECCS with an adjusted AFM. As it depends on the pistons, heads, manifolds, etc. used, it is not possible to really speculate on power outputs. Last, I would like to know what the rated MPG or KPL is for a S130J or GS130J with the stock L20(A)ET and with the stock L28ET. My understanding is that I could maybe get around 24 MPG from a L28ET, is this correct? Thank you for your assistance.
  2. Please join me in wishing Mr. Yutaka Katayama, or as we know and love him as Mr. K, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Mr K was born on September 15, 1909 (Japan date) We owe him so much, it can never be repaid. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. K! Ask yourself, "What would Mr. K do?", and the would will be a much better place!
  3. First, I would get a unisyn and follow the adjustment procedure in the FSM to make sure the carbs are in adjustment and synchronized. I would also pull the tops of the carbs and look at the internals and clean them in carb cleaner. Also make sure that you have damper oil in the carbs. I like to use 20 weight motor cycle fork oil (as it is hard to find 20 straight weight motor oil). Make sure that all your vacuum lines are good and have no leaks. !!!!!Really look at the line that goes to the vacuum advance on the distributor. If there is not enough signal going to the distributor module, then you can suffer drivability problems. On that note, maybe get a vacuum hand pump and pull a vacuum on the vacuum advance module to see if the module is holding a vacuum. If the module will not hold a vacuum (leaks down), then you may need a new one. I would try these first, as you have an SU system, there is only so much it can be. Also adjust ign. timing using the FSM
  4. It's not even a GTS-T? No turbo? Even a bone stock 280Z 2+2 with manual trans could kill it with the correct tires, assuming he has no mods. Oh, man this is going to be really fun for you! I just wonder about the kind of person who would try to make a GTS look like the GT-R. I hope he is not some kind of punk that thinks he is all bad (i.e. ricer type). In that case, it will be very pleasurable to destroy his ego with a DATSUN! I really wish I could be there for that! Look at the power specs on this page: http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=34298&Nissan I am building up an L28ET. I plan to use Megasquirt with MSnS+E, a water cooled T3, stock head, stock cam, 3 inch custom downpipe and exhaust, and for now maybe the stock injectors/fuel system.
  5. Of course you can do both bar and internal lube, but you will need the turbo oil pump to have enough flow to both systems.
  6. Just get the Maxima N47 and take out the exhaust liners, or you can keep them in. The Maxima head has the same chamber shape as the P90, except that it is smaller in size. What do you want for the injectors? trade?
  7. Many of the no-name parts are the same as the expensive Japanese brand name products. They are made at factories that are located in special zones where they are able to get away with making a product on behalf of brand name and then release the same product under a no-name or off-brand. People are finding this out. The Supra people found out one of the Hong Kong intercoolers offered for sale on ebay is just as good and virtually the same as a certain expensive brand name unit. I don't know the exact unit they were talking about.
  8. I would think the Cartech kit would be worth at least $2500 on the market today just because it is rare and "legendary". Has anyone seen what they go for?
  9. So I was watching Shuto Kousoku Trail 1 that I downloaded (See downloads section ), and I noticed the that manual boost controller (notice the hose on the left side) that is used in the movie looks to have some type of "key" that is put in and turned to use it. I know that someone here must know who made this manual boost controller. Thanks for your help everyone! Boost Controller pic: http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=5427&cat=500&page=1
  10. This is a capture from the Shuto Kousoku Trail 1 movie (info in downloads and other posts).
  11. You can remove the liners with no real problem. Some people do it on the N/A and others leave them in. The trick with the N/A engine is to blend in the base of the liner into the valve seat. The liner in the N/A engine will help the exhaust gas make the turn in the port instead of slamming into the top of the port wall. It will actually make power over just taking them out. See, the liners are not so evil after-all! With the turbo, it could be a good thing if you take them out and combine them with a turbo tubular header made to match the port. Interesting idea, but I have never done this (yet).
  12. You can find my links and many others in the downloads section. If it is a download, then it should go there.
  13. I have the ex-driver anime (the 2 vol. set). It is a good watch, but it can get kind of old to some people. The problem it that the plot repeats in most of the eqisodes except for maybe 4 and the two part story in eps. 5 and 6. The extras that come with the DVD set are cool and worth getting the DVD for if you like the anime. There is "ex-drivers: Perfect Collection" that is 1-6 on one DVD. I am not sure what extras it come with. Also, watch it with the subtitles and Japanese at least once. They really messed up the translation in the dub and the voice actors don't really sound that good. I have not seen the movie yet, but i will get it to compleat my collection soon. As with anything that is released here in America (i.e. licenced) if you like the work that you downloaded you should buy it.
  14. I have also found several places that deal in Asian DVD/VCD that carry this and the others (below) Compare the price and shipping between them; yesasia does tend to be a little cheaper on most Chinese DVD of about $3 to $5 it seems (but not on equivalent shipping service), but they only have the Shuto Trail box set in VCD. Yesasia only has 1 and 2 on DVD, and 3 is VCD. The other place, Five Star Laser, has 1 to 4 on DVD, but they are about 5 more when you count the S&H in (Yesasia on anything above basic "super saver" slow shipping charges $1 per item on top of shipping), so it is really up to what you prefer and such. As you know, not every DVD player plays VCD, and even when they do, some do not do it well. Also remember that a VCD DOES NOT GIVE DVD QUALITY, and could explain why a VCD is MUCH cheaper than a DVD of the same work Here are the two places that I have found http://store.fivestarlaser.com/shop/movies/scan/st=db/sp=displaydvd/op=rm/op=em/sf=0/se=7741.html http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1002492052/code-c/section-videos/

    Ethanol Z

As you know, anything above E14 will require that fuel system mods be made. You would need to have things like nickel plated fuel lines, specal injectors, hose, etc., to resist the corrosice properties of ethanol, espealy at E85. Look at places like Brazil that use ethanol. Of course, E100 has something like 113 octane, so E85 will be very high as well.
  16. I have always been a fan of the 4ltr six, since an Australian told me about the F6 some time ago. Check out this site and look at all the fun we could be having: http://www.fpv.com.au
  17. That was partly an FYI for those not in the know.
  18. I don't know exactly what intercooler you are looking at, but the Supra people figured out that what they call the "ebay intercoolers" only have a little more pressure drop and slightly smaller end tanks when compared to the US$2K HKS (I believe it was HKS I was told). Again, there are many intercoolers that are on ebay, so I don't really know the specific intercooler they were talking about (if you know someone on Supra Forums ask them). Not that I condone buying cheap crap made made in China or the like (car or non-car), but many of the parts really are made in the same places that make the "real" stuff. Some of it has to do with "zones" where the people who make it for some Japanese company don't have to obey "intellectual property laws" and such, so they just turn around and sell it with no name and for much less. Of course, there are rip-off parts that are really no good. I think word gets out what off-brand parts really are just the real deal with no/different name.
  19. Tsuchiya was in later later Shuto Kousoku Trail movies, not the first one. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454548/ AND yes, I know that Wangan Midnight has nothing to do with Shuto Trail 1, except "wangan" racing.
  20. I think the 05L was used on the HR30 Skyline Turbo. ------------ Well, other than standard stuff, no. I have many L20A parts and heads (Y70, E31, 05L). I don't even know if you could realy do anything like enlarge that valves, as the bore is so small now (as you know it's so small that they notched the block to clear the valves). Maybe have the head extrude honed? You know, the Y70 and 05L look to be the same as far as chamber and ports, huh... (the Y70 is a non-turbo head and came with the L20A fitted to things like the Cedric and Gloria if I am correct)
  21. At the least you just need the L28ET and ECCS system (harness, ECU, etc.). Depending on what you do, there will be things that came in the ZXT that you may or may not need. I would look at what others have done and copy a setup you like (and that was working with no real problems). The stock early version 5-speed will hold mild turbo system, but you can upgrade to the later "B-version" if you break yours. You can also fit the T5 from a ZXT or get the Mustang unit and combine it with a T5 input shaft and bell housing from the ZXT. If you are automatic, I would tell you to get the transmission from a Z31 Turbo (has overdrive). Most people I know are converting from twin to single in Mk4 Supra and GT-R. I would say the twin-turbo systems have fallen out of favor. You can use the R200 and CV-shafts from the ZXT if you want to. However, unless you want big power, you don't have to.
  22. drzed, you could just give me the JE pistons, I am very sure that I could put them to very good use with my L28ET! Have you considered welding the chambers of the P90?
  23. Nitr0, I would think that the pump/drive/dist. from the L20ET would work in place, unless that ECCS is different. As you know some skylines and the Fairlady Turbo (S130J) came with the L20(A)ET I can get and ship ANYTHING you need. I will even ship whole motors by ship. Up to 44 lbs., I can ship by USPS surface mail (very slow, at least for cranks and heads, etc., but everything I shipped to Australia has gotten there so far). If anyone wants anything, just PM me. I know how hard it can be to get things that were never in your "market".
  24. I hope this is OK to post here, but I noticed that lots of people are looking for this. You will need a Bittorrent client however. http://www.mybittorrent.com/bittorrent/movies/shuto_kousoku_trial_1,109074.html If the myBT site is down you can go here: http://ts.searching.com/torrent/490463/Shuto_Kousoku_Trial_1_672x448_JPN_w_ENG_CHN_sub I have also found several places that deal in Asian DVD/VCD that carry this and the others (below) Compare the price and shipping between them; yesasia does tend to be a little cheaper on most Chinese DVD of about $3 to $5 it seems (but not on equivalent shipping service), but they only have the Shuto Trail box set in VCD. 25. First, I believe the live action video is part of a series called "shuto trial" (vol. ?). I came across it on ebay once. It was a HK rip-off DVD. So it is out there, and I believe it had subtitles. It is out there, so I would look for it if you want the DVD with subtitles. HOWEVER I found it for DL by BT: http://www.mybittorrent.com/bittorrent/movies/shuto_kousoku_trial_1,109074.html I can't say if it is subtitled or not. Very interesting video (the trailer); I know that it was said above that it was just an intro for the video game, but I wonder... I had heard rumors about an anime version of "Wangan Midnight" for some time now. Kind of like the rumors surrounding a certain "4th" stage before it was made (Thank God that ID did not have any Z-cars in it) If they have or are going to make Wangan Midnight into an anime, I am there, but I hope that some people who already think that the S30 is great to abuse in drift and run into poles and parked cars, don't think that they can go out and run the S30 into a wall street racing and not really knowing what they are doing because of the anime or game. Bad enough they do it to the S13/S14. the odd thing is that a local arcade near me has the twin unit of the game; very rear to get good stuff like that here. Really, I have to say it is the best simulation driving games, the cars feel as close as a game like this is going to come to feeling like the real cars (now my rank is "The Sunset Mistress" of all things, but that is better than the "The White Master" that I know another player got, sounds a little, um, not good). The list of parts for the "Devil Z" engine sounds like the "normal" shopping list for a perfect L-series. VLC is one of the best players ever made! It is welcome compared to installing codec after codec trying to play something like .ogm files. VLC FOREVER!
