  1. well i ordered the manual one yesterday should be here tomorrow. with the auto ecu it ran really rich and was shootin flames out. and it would one run at certain rpms like it wouldnt idle very good and its hard to start. would the vacuum crap on the manifold matter? its all blocked off except for the things needed like for the brakes fpr and what not.the cap, rotor, wires is all new and when i pull the plugs out there wet. the motor was just rebuilt i dont think there would be a problem with the assembly lube or anything would there? i made sure the timing chain and dist. were set perfect. i checked and double checked and triple checked. the only things that arnt hooked up are the head temp sens and the sens in the thermostat housing. would that make it run too rich? and the little resistor looking thing by the coil ignitor that goes to the little clip on the dist. thanks for your help guys
  2. This is probably gona be a dumb question but is there a differance between the auto and manual ecu's? Will an auto ecu work for a manual or should I get the manual ecu? Its for a 280z turbo. I just thought I'd ask a few ppl before I spent the money. Thanks guys
  3. i jus finished my turbo swap on my 78 280z. it also runs WAY rich and it only runs good if its around half throttle.it might be my coil. im using a msd coil im going to try the stock one tomorrow see if that helps any. or it might be the ecu. mine came from an auto and now its manual. what ecu are you running?
  4. i also have a 78 z with a turbo swap. my runs good whne u give it gas but if u let it idle it dies or if u try to give it too much gas it dies. my AFM is upside down too. what i think mine is is that im using a turbo auto ecu with a manual.
  5. the block and head are stock and stock head gasket. we only changed the rods and pistons to the turbo pistons and rods.
  6. ok whats the easiest way to find out what the CR is? im running a n42 block and n47 head with turbo dished pistons. does anyone know what about it would be?
  7. ok thanks for all your help guys. my Z is finaly running but the rings and what not went out. luckily i have a spare motor thats all new so im puutin that in now. its jus about done jus need to run a oil line and mount the clutch and flywheel then bolt it back in the car. sorry if i was bein a pain. o and whats the differance between the turbo auto and turbo manual ecu's? it has a auto ecu but its now a manual. will it matter any?
  8. holy s*** those are hella rare. there was only a few hundred of those if i remember correctly made. there was a company that was makin them t top but when a shipment broke they coundlt afford more and went out of buisness. if u dont want it i do lol
  9. no my crank angle sensor is in the distributor. and the fuel pump turns on because its wired into my ignition. theres power at the coil on the + and the -. so i think the coil is shot. just to make sure the + is the blue and the - is the Black with white stripe correct?
  10. ok everything is wired up and theres power at the coil but no spark. it might be the coil. im going to put the stock one in and see if it works. if it doesnt work then i guess i did somthin wrong.
  11. o i have a 78 280z with a 82 280zx turbo motor. im looking into the MSII and the price is good but do u have to have a laptop in the cap at all times or can i jus set it and go and not have to have the laptop in the car? and what all is needed to run with the MSII? OR what would be best to run the engine. like if i didnt have the FI harness. i do have the harness and ecu for the turbo motor but theres a few hard spots and i was thinking a standalone would be easyier. any input helps. thx guys
  12. ok after looking threw here i still have a couple of questions. 1. the six pin plug for the ignition harness mine has 8 so should i jus follow the same diagram but look for the wires in the plug?
  13. whats the best bang for your buck for the management systems?
  14. www.racetep.com also has fuel rails and many other parts for Z cars
  15. can i jus run the 12v+ switched to the ignition? and which wire from the ECU is for the coil. thats what i been trying to find
  16. ok ive been looking around for help and ive been reading on this site for a while and i think u guys can help. ok heres what i got: 78' 280z with a 82' 280zx turbo motor. when i got the Z it had a turbo weber set up. and an odd wiring set up. i have most of the old wiring out the lights still work but i am going to be installing the painless wiring kit. i pulled the old motor and put the FI motor in. i have the ECU and FI wirng in the car. it turns over and theres power at the ECU but i cant seem to get the coil wiring right. ive had a few of my Z car friends and other mechanic friends and we cant seem to figure it out. i was thinking about getting an engine management system but i jus want it to be running 1st before i go in to major upgrades.
