i think the best idea is just save my money and put it aside and keep my eyes open for a good new style ram with that 5.9L..... My friend has one and tows a kx-121 excavator, total trailer and excavator wieght is like 12k lbs... and he tows it like it's a car...lol... i got a good job that i'll make like $1500 this week from 1 job so i'm just gonna invest that into the new truck... i love diesels, 5 speed cummings u can just let the clutch out and it already has enough torque to pull the load...maybe pull my 350 and set it aside for the Z and sell the truck body? choices...

different saws or cut-off wheels will work, it just depends what area your working on. a jigsaw works on open areas, sawsall for tighter spots, and a cut off wheel for either. Then grind away -
this is non z related, but i know theres alot of knowlegable 350 guys here that can help me.... I have a 1991 chevy 3/4 ton pickup that I tow my excavator with for my job. Trailer and excavator wiegh about 7000lbs+ or so. My question is, the engine can climb any hill decently with the load, but could use alot more torque to feel better doing it. What are the best mod's to start with that will add some helpful torque, and still be dependable as my everyday work truck. Fuel injected 350, stock intake, stock exaust...etc...I'm looking for dependable POWER to help tow, but i can't afford to put thousands into this, because i could sell my truck and buy a mid 90's ram with a 5.9 liter Cummings diesel for $5000..... so i'm looking to spend less than $1000.. thanks in advance

you got a beast there...i'll be there someday soon

thanks for the feedback..... I've been planning for a good 6 months, and still have a ton of things still in question... I'm gonna start with either a Dark dark Blue, or a charcoal black.... If i go black, i want to use some silver somehow. But i'm kinda leaning toward that dark blue. My eventual goal is gonna look like this but alot darker...same bodywork, different wheels though... i think i'll scrap that stripe idea for now.....

i've always liked this layout for a car, and what threw me over the top was that 442 they did on overhaulin...i loved that paint job...I'm not sure how it would turn out on a Z though... What do u guys think of this look on a Z? the picture is just a quick thing, but i plan on painting my car black and silver, just not sure what layout yet....

how much was that combo? tear that rear end off just for fun on the first drive...lol

1971 240z - Should i get it? (pics)

I can do the strut brace's easily by myself, but i was alittle confused about how to connect the front brace to the fire wall cowl like you said. wouldn't that make it permanent? I want to be able to remove the strut brace in front. I think as long as i make some obvious brace's, i think the car will do great with a older carb'd v8. -

Do u have some picture's of some examples of the strut reinforcements so i can give my neighboor some as a reference? -

So what exactly would you guys recommend as far as strengthening the car to take a very mild V8 safely? I haven't done much as far as beefing up a car, but my next door neighoor is a fabricator, so what exact area's would need some reinforcement? -
Another choice, 1974 260z - Should i get it (pics)

The other one has a much better body, and interior. i'm gonna check it tomorrow, but compared to this one, it has to be alot better. -

Well, we drove home with no car today. This one was alot worse than the pictures show. There was rust bubble's under the paint job. And As i drove it, we filled it with gas, and my friend was driving behind and told me to pull over because there was a stream of fluid coming out constantly, to find there's a nice crack in the upper part of the gas tank. The steering was iffy, and i just think i can find a much nicer one for close to the same price if i keep looking. The floor pans did look good though, but i'll find somthing else soon -

I think i'm gonna get this 1 if there aren't any suprise's when i get there. It runs, which will give me time to make it look how i want before i start the 350. Should be fun, i'll post some of my own pictures if i get it tomorrow. -
This is the other Z i'm going to check out tomorrow. It's a '74 260, with no rust on the shell (not sure about the rest of the car until i check it out). This one runs good, and has been his car to get to work so it's been drivin on the freeway which means good things for me, because i'd rather buy a car that i can test everything like brake's steering suspension etc... before i get somthing home that i didn't get a test drive in. His asking price is $500, i'll see if thats a good price when i get there. But do u guys think this is a better deal than the other '71 i posted that doesn't run, and has shady t-tops that might leak etc....? Pics no steering column cover (ie. Wire's hanging, but the cover is cheap on ebay)

I still have to check it out, and look over everything in person, so it's not for sure yet. -
Thanks, i'll try to get the other casting numbers from the back. I hope everything works out and i might have a Z and a chevy engine/tranny by monday.
-
What do u guys think of this Z? I'm gonna offer $900. The engine starts but dies, He live's right by me, so i'm really considering it. Here's his description of it.... Look's like a good body with alot of good stuff, plus a 280zx he'll throw in. etc.... 71 240Z(Datsun). Roll bar, 2.8 flat top piston block, 77-78 hood, 70 hatch back, 280zx wheels, E31 high compression head, 1"sway bar in front, 3/4 in in back. Su carbs, custom digital clock, sport springs and painted to match. Datsun 5-speed trans, R-200 rear end. Spear 2.8 flat top piston block. Many extra parts. Car runs rough. Here's the pics. (look like a good base for a v8?) I'm in no hurry to get it on the road, i just want something to start and have fun working with.

Can someone tell me from the numbers below, because those are the only numbers i got, and i'm pretty sure thats just the intake manifold number which could be anywhere from a 305 - 350 right? 14102182 Thanks

V8Z Newbie With some Questions V8 SWAP!
240zV8 replied to 240zV8's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Most importantly i just wanted to make sure the tranny that comes in those CK1500 trucks will fit right in the Z with the driveshaft adapter in that JTR kit. I should have known to use the search button more, my bad, but i got to anxious...lol.. -
Hey guys, i'm onto my next preject. I've been distracted by motocycle's for a few years, but it's time to do my dream. I'm getting a 73' 240z that runs good for $900. Of course the engine is coming out and sold (great engine but i don't love it like i love the 350). I'm not very familiar with the options of engine/transmission's that work in Z's, or more specifially, i want to know if the idea i have will work. Here's what i was hoping to do (if u guys say it will work). Get the 73' 240Z, and than buy a good running 1988 chevy 1500 pickup with a 350 for like $1000, so i know the engine runs good and trans works good. (i'm not looking to race, i just want a nice powerful street driver to play with). So if i get a pickup like that with a basic 350 and whatever trans come's in those trucks, can i just take the engine and trans straight out and swap that in the Z with the JTR or scarab mounting kits, driveshaft flange, new radiator/fan/headers and make it work with that stuff? And after that, i have another question of the different mounting setup's scarab vs JTR msa. Pro's con's, which way is easier for a somewhat newbie to engine swaps. (i did one, but i was just a sidekick, well basically watching other than helping push the engine hoist) I'm going to get the JTR manual, because the search button here seemed to pop that up alot...lol....I hope i'll be here for awhile learning from you guys...Thanks for the help.
