  1. so if it over revs 1st gear before it shifts to second, what adjustment needs to be made? Because all the other shifts are fine, and i don't want to end up making it worse. I can still accelerate normal and it won't over rev 1st.
  2. I checked the oil in the trans a couple months ago and it was alittle low so i topped it off, maybe put alittle to much. But anyway, The past couple weeks when i accelerate kinda fast from a dead stop, it'll hang 1st gear and upshift late. it doesn't do it if i accelerate normally. Could this be caused by to much oil? Or is it whats below? this is what consumer guide said about that model (91' chevy k2500 truck) Automatic transmission: 700-R4 automatic transmissions may shift late or not upshift at all. The problem is a stuck throttle valve inside the transmission. (1990-92)
  3. yea, that search button will keep you busy for hours and hours... Welcome, u came to the right place, alot of crazy speedfreaks here..lol... Most ur questions can be answered with the search button, but theres alot of knowlegable people here who will help with anything, they did for me.....
  4. I'm gonna make my own cold air intake and just wanted to see if you guys knew of a stock hat (filterless) that would fit a 91 chevy 5.7l truck tbi unit so i can run 3" pipe off it and put a k&N filter on. Simple install, just wondering what i can pickup at the junkyard that will screw on for a quick cold air intake to the tbi without air leaks. And another question...is a 1" tbi spacer worth the money for gains in power or mpg?
  5. I'll definently consider that ^. I'm just gonna see how things work themselve out, because i plan on getting brakes, suspension and wheels before anything. And i can fab most the mounts for the 350, and i guess gas milage isn't my main concern, it's more driveability in town and on the highway, i'm not really into top speed driving in old cars like these (unless i spent alot of money to make sure i was 100% confident in the chassis), i save the 120+ mph speeds for my motorcycle. My friend had a 76 280 and the engine ran real good for a couple months then would need all kinds of work, but that was when we were like 16 so we didn't even know about puting a v8 in... i think a 350 would be a better base to build off. I'll have about 3-4 grand for the engine swap, but what i think i'll do is see if anyone local has a v8 Z that will let me check it out before i make the choice. I love torque in cars, because around here theres alot of mountains and winding roads, and u need torque to pull u in and out of those turns and up hills. I always get ahead of myself when it comes to things like this, but i think this site will help bring me to reality...because today i was looking at turbo setup's on 350's and already started pricing parts for that..lol...i gotta do the basics first...i appreciated all the feedback so far...
  6. Can someone get me a link to download a manual for a 1991 3/4 ton Chevy Silverado? It's Appreciated.
  7. I got a question about building a engine. If i get a solid running 350 out of a truck or camaro or whatever i find, how much horsepower can u get from just rebuilding the top end without any machine work or complete dissasembly? Like new intake, carb, exhaust...I want to do it myself, and i know i can't build a complete engine yet, so i want to start with the top end.... What books, or websites would u recommend for what i want to do? I'm still in college so i try to do everything i can without paying a shop to do somthin i can learn to do.
  8. yea thats what i'm thinking ^, i just have to find another Z because the sunroof wasn't gonna work for me... if i'm gonna spend all the time building my car, i can't compromise somthing like having a sunroof when i don't want one. So i'm just gonna pick up a 350 when i find a solid one, and build the engine while i'm on the hunt for a Z. I want 350 hp, but my first build i'll prolly end up somewhere around 250...lol...
  9. got what they deserved. Man if that happened to me i don't think i could hold back, especially since that was unprovoked. U gotta atleast shoot somthing, a tire, a windshield, a engine block? "look at this fuckin guy aye" lol
  10. the search button comes up with alot of people sayin the 180 rearend barely holds the torque of a stock 350, most break..
  11. 150 bucks or less at a junkyard and u could just put a r200 in and not worry. From everything i've seen, it's not much work.. check these sites about the swap http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/6212/diffswap/diffswap.htm http://www.geocities.com/madmanadam/Z-car/r200swap.html
  12. well it think clifton answered my question, i didn't see that...lol... i have the JTR book and that was my initial plan, so i think V8 is more likely for me, unless a turbo falls in my lap
  13. well it's a stock 91 chevy truck gauge cluster...... and the temp gauge stopped working a couple weeks ago
  14. I got a question (sorry about hijacking the thread) but what does it mean if my oil gauge only reads sometimes, the only time it reads is when i'm sitting still at idle (and the neddle is shaking in the middle vigorously)... otherwise it's always far right not even on the scale... Is there a short in the connection or somthing?
  15. I want to try a patch, like if I welded a X across the underside of the roof with some thicker sheet metal strips connected to the posts, and that way u could have something for the patch to sit on and strengthen the sheet metal.... I just think i'd mess up, and the windows wouldn't fit right if i cut the whole top off.... or i could just leave the sunroof, paint my car black and get limo tint on it...lol..
  16. how are u gonna go about fixing that sunroof hole? Because the car i'm about to buy has one, and i'd rather it not be there...lol... Are u gonna take a whole car top and replace it or just put a patch in with some support of some sort?
  17. Yakima is like the desert land of washington....well, alot of eastern washington is like that.... Once you go over the mountain pass to eastern washington, it's like a whole other climate and layout....But texas is alot like eastern washington if that helps. Kinda flatland landscape, but u can always drive over to the seattle area and get all kinds of mountains and greenery...lol
  18. thats dirt on the front left side, i thought it was rust when i saw the pics
  19. 280z, 5 speed, very minimal rust, needs new head on the engine to run if i want to get it running or go with a new swap right away, but it's all together. i'm gonna offer $600....sound like a good start? The only thing i don't like is that it has a sunroof. i think i could get use to it, but other than that, it's stock and has a real good body and chassis....should i pick it up? here's some pic's
  20. yea post how it works... I'm guessing it's gonna sputter alot, and be hard to control....but for the price if it gets the couple things u need done, why not.
