  1. i never ended up buying that 240z, so i need a new name Can i change it for now to: BMC thanks!
  2. lol... thats the defenition of a squid, i'm suprised he wasn't wearing shorts, a tank top, and sandels
  3. how come you got rid of that and went back to a l28? Just out of curiosity.
  4. should be a fun car once ur done, and not to much power that u will break ur jaw when put ur foot down...lol jk.... Isn't 3" enough exhaust to get the turbo stable with that power?
  5. man thats gotta suck! I did somthin similar, but i was riding my bike and hit a patch of gravel and the front wheel just slide out and i went cheek first into the gravel, and had gravel all cut in my face. But thats nothing compared to breaking ur jaw like that, hope u heal up soon. Keep riding ur bike though, not enough people do it. If i didn't tow a excavator to work i'd ride to work..lol... the money i'd save in gas and insurance could be put straight into a Ls1!!!
  6. i noticed that to, since i'm always looking for a Z.... One thing that would be great is to be able to search location in the classifieds, i always see a good deal but it's in FL or somthing...lol... I'm not sure how to program that in, but it would be a big help.
  7. i think a built 700r4 could handle that torque. I have a 700r4 is my truck that i tow my excavator with so thats alot of abuse right there. but hard launches can pretty much ruin any transmission, so it depends on ur driving habits. a 700r4 would be a good daily driver, or street cruiser with some launches, but not a drag car unless u want it rebuilt alot. But i'm sure other people have more experienced opinions to...
  8. but....if your in a position to spend that kind of money, I'd tell you to put a LS1 in, but they get alittle pricey, and if your like me and doing school and stuff, that's not an option....yet. So a l28/l28et can be a fast cheap option to get some good power.
  9. i was planning on a V8 swap right when i get a Z for the torque and power, but i just drove my friends s30 with a l28 turbo, and that thing is fast, and he drives it everyday as his only car. I didn't realize how much potential those engines had until i drove that. Just go get a cheap l28 or l28et, clean it up alittle, and bolt it in and you'll have a fun car, and you won't be killed by the extra expenses of one of those swaps u mentioned, which can reach $5-$10k easily from what people do on here..
  10. cold blooded..^..lol... It is up to you though, do u want to have the biggest baddest turbo setup just to say you have it? Or do u want the best turbo setup for your needs? Most people here have different setups because everyone has different wants/needs. track? Street? daily driver? or like u said, do u just want it so people will be impressed? most people will want to help you with the first 3, but the last one isn't really what it's about to me...
  11. I say stay local and move to bellingham... It doesn't rain that much, it's only rained like 5 times this whole summer (NW gets a bad rap for rain, but the weather here is alot better than most places). Never gets to cold, never gets to hot.... everything u could ask for, mountains, ocean, rivers, lakes, racetracks, big cities close, lots of hospitals, traffic isn't even a issue, good housing... 2800 sq ft. 4 bd 3 bath house's for $320k. Alot more relaxed than Seattle.. i love it here, i lived in Santa barbara for 2 years and it got old, the same weather everyday.
  12. well the cable is definently working. I drove it with the adjuster all the way in for about 200 feet and it wouldn't even really shift, it just stayed in 1st forever and finally kicked into second so that wasn't gonna work... And so i pulled the adjuster out to where it was before i touched it (it was all dirty so i could easily tell where the mark it was at use to be). And i tried it there again, and it shifted kind of soft and would over rev 1st and second alittle. So i moved the adjuster back IN just alittle bit and it seems like the best position. The shifts hold alittle longer in each gear but aren't overrevving, because i can gas it and they don't hesitate to shift under any accelleration. when it use to overrev, i would have to let off the gas for it to want to shift easy, now it doesn't matter how i accelerate it will always kick into the next gear firm, but still smooth.. So i hope i found the right spot thats safe for the trans....
  13. i'm 22 to, and i went to the Z-club here a couple years ago with my friend and his dad who owned a 76 280, and it was all older people, so it wasn't really our thing...but i've grown some and i think it helps ALOT to have people who know there Z's really good to help out, even though the clubs are social events alot, and i don't hang with people much older than me but i'd give it a shot once i get a Z, and my friend who's got one would come... were the next generation to keep the Z's alive...lol... But ur on the right track gettin one organized over there, i can barely get to class on time let alone organize a Z club..lol
  14. funny thing is, my middle school had a shop class, but my highschool didn't have shop of any kind. We have 3 big highschools, and none of them have shop. I wasted alot of time skipping class and taking useless courses because i couldn't stand classes like social studies. If we would have had welding or auto mechanics i wouldn't have missed a day of highschool.... but i'm glad we have good tech and community schools here with all kinds of mechanic and engineering classes.
  15. I'm getting kind of frustrated, because i've been looking for a Z for about 6+ months and really want to get a project going. In the past i've let a couple go by because one was an automatic and didn't run and had a rear end clunk for $500 but had a great body. Another one with a good body, 5spd, didn't run, but had a sunroof for $600. I'm starting to think i'm going to settle for something i don't want..ie sunroof, auto... my plan keeps changing from V8, to l28et, so i didn't mind a non running car because i was thinking just to swap something in, but now i think a running l28 is fine, rebuld it, turbo it, and fix everything else before i do a big swap... I use to just impulse buy, but now i'm smarting to think things through more. I hope a Z goes up for sale with no sunroof and 5spd in the near future with a good body....lol...its sound so easy. Someone got one for sale in the NW?
  16. the dash on the red one has no cracks, look at the second picture, it has the dash cap taken off... The engines on both look like they've been sitting by salt water for awhile....
  17. paint is no problem, i'm going satin black ASAP. I hope i can get it running while i'm there to test the main things
  18. Well, i was just checking the classifieds tonight, and decided to check ebay for local Z's for sale. And i found this ad right here in my city. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LOT-2-280Z-280-Z-DATSUN-NISSAN-260Z-260-Z-240Z-240-Z_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6783QQihZ008QQitemZ180030633700QQrdZ1 Now from the looks of it, i wouldn't drop the asking $650 on these, but if it doesn't get any bids, i'm gonna go check them out tomorrow and offer the guy $400...i mean for 1 pretty decent Z, and 1 rust bucket, $400 is worth it i think (even though that sunroof should be on the rust bucket where it belongs...lol). The red Z has a good body and engine looks complete (prolly runs), and dash isn't cracked at all. u never know what the underside looks like until you get in person.... But what do u guys think as a good start for me?
  19. I'm not sure if it's to big for a Z or not, but i'm sure there's a way to cut the stock hing and fit a lambo hing. They look pretty big though....
  20. well when i mean hanging, i mean the revs will go up and it won't wanna shift unless I let off the gas some... If i get the tv cable setup and the shifts are normal, I don't have to worry about frying the trans right? Wouldn't it be hard awkward shifts when it's gonna fry it? Or can it shift fine but still have the wrong vacuum that will cause damage?
  21. the way it would shift it would be fine for the first 2 gears, then it shifts through 3rd and 4th kinda fast so i'd be in 4th by around 45mph on up... and it would hang 1st and 2nd if i get on the gas in those gears...... Manual trans is all i've had before this, and i think i'll go back to that soon enough...
  22. i don't think it's broken because it has about 1/4" of play before u can feel pressure on the cable... i haven't taken it out yet, but i will in the morning to test the shifts. Fluid level won't affect shift behavior like hanging 1st and 2nd gear would it? (like having to much trans oil). I'm gonna see how it shifts in the morning, and play around with the adjuster, and then i'm gonna definently get a new filter and pan gasket and change the trans oil just to get some fresh stuff in there... i'll post up how it goes tomorrow..
  23. i've never seen oil burn really white, it's always been moisture of some sort that caused that. Did it have a blueish color to the smoke?...
