  1. there is a section named "other engines" theres a couple threads around about diesel engines, but i dont think anyone has actually done anything like that
  2. that makes sense since many new engines use open deck designs and they probably use the same new casting technology
  3. just wondering what you guys thought about the gravity bleeding option. Ussually when I do a brake job I like to pop the bleeder valve and gravity bleed it a bit. I know some mechanics only bleed with the help of another person pressing then pedal. Personally I dont see why gravity bleeding is any worse, I can do it alone and do it while i do something else.
  4. HG doesnt carry any pressurized oil so if theres no water consumption/white smoke and the compression is good then theres probably no problem just to be sure I'd change the valve cover gaskets, clean the area real good, wait a week or so and if theres no more oil then thats it
  5. anyone know the real advantage of open deck?? better cooling? i always thought because it was a modular engine that it was easier to adapt it to different engine configuratons and displacement.. but im not sure other then that i think open deck would be a great dissadvantage for strength and HG sealing
  6. k i looked through the under construction pictures, but it seems like there's 3 cylinders!?!?!?!? one for the brakes, one for the clutch and the third??? maybe its a larger one for the front brakes and a separte smaller one for the rears? i dunno EDIT: VERY NICE Z btw sooooooooooo clean. i love the perfectly smooth firewall
  7. i thought the oped deck design was no good? i guess that could be solved with a resleeve but still...
  8. best 4 cyl - FJ20 best 6 cyl - RB26 or 2JZ best 8 cyl - LSX
  9. i had always thought of using 2 motor stands. of course they would need to be high enough so the car would swing all the way, maybe if the stands were mounted backwards, or modified so the height could be adjusted
  10. how are they different? is the 280 like the 260 or is it different too?
  11. nice find for a good price hopefully the rust shown there is all u gotta worry bout
  12. u got some skill there i like the duals in your drawings, but somehow doubt it will lok as good in real life
  13. that website says that the H30 is an OHV
  14. OMG thats brilliant soooooooooooooooo funny
  15. heres a picture from the article: and another random one: I'm just curious about the water jacket diffrences here It seems to me like the warlock block is really inefficient when it comes to cooling. can anyone explain to me how their design can provide the same cooling as the stock block when theres obviously A LOT more water around the cylinders in the stock block.
  16. wow that block is crazy, but is it me or does it seem like theres barely any water jacket for cooling? is the stock ls1 block like this too? ON3GO, how come you want a single instead of twin turbos?
  17. The guy wants a hot rod and thats awsome. whether you start with a ford model t or a datsun it doesnt matter. its a hot rod, meaning it ALL custom and all based on owner's wants. with thtat said if the owner wants an 800hp beast let him have it. especially since he's got another "normal" looking datsun thats more tame
  18. i dunno bout the extra head bolts on the intake side... they use little caps to seal off the holes on the heads. I wonder if those caps would leak under boost or maybe cause interference to airflow. Plus just about every other engine on the earth only has 4 bolts per cylinder (except sbc)
  19. i always thoguht it'd be cool to use one from the 2nd gen rx-7's as it is attached to the dash instead of the column
  20. true that coolant will increase the boiling point, but water is a better heat transferrer. I think you can increase your boiling point by increasing the maximum pressure (with the rad cap). I wonder if you could pour a bit of that evaporust stuff in your coolant. It sais it wont affect metals but maybe rubber and plastic components
  21. im sure it would be 4000 for the block then probably another 1000 or more for machining, then come the actual internal components, then the heads .... but at least you can sleep at night knowing your beast isnt gonna break down on you
  22. that looks soooo nice... very classy color combo and total setup
  23. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3761976&postcount=37 just thought this was interesting, pretty impressive block found this while snoopin round ls1tech. this way you could use the great jtr setup while using the advanced lsX technology also it sais "dry sump not required" as though its a bad ting. I thought they used the dry sum in order to have the engine as low as possible doesnt say the max power but I assume it far above 1000hp btw- what is the stock short block rated at? how bout stock block with forged internals?
  24. I have seen this happen on a dohc neon. it was the intake cam if it matters. it broke after the first cylinder so it didnt start at all. Another mechanic at my shop tried everything... checked fire, fuel, everything was fine then he popped the valve cover off and saw that only part of the cam was turning.
