Is this a good switch for Taurus 2spd fan?
MIBPreacher replied to MIBPreacher's topic in Ignition and Electrical
Do you have 2 switches, 1 for low and 1 for high or what? Really low on money and really want to use this... -Everyone? Does anyone put anything in between the fan and the radiator to cushion it? I have heard of using a foam weatherstrip to buffer the plastic to metal. -
When converting from an Automatic to a 5spd, are the transmission mounts the same? making my list of parts I need now that I have my new tranny.

82 280ZX Digital Dash, of course problems
MIBPreacher replied to EZ-E's topic in Ignition and Electrical
I know on the 300zx's that have the digital dash that have problems, its due to the external power supply going bad. You might want to see if you have one of these in your dash? -
Is this a good switch for Taurus 2spd fan?
MIBPreacher replied to MIBPreacher's topic in Ignition and Electrical
The plastic anchors is the term I used to describe attaching the taurus fan shroud to the radiator? I am assuming this is the way to hook it up to a 300zx? I wonder how much horsepower I will gain by converting to the electric fan? I will hook my probe up the sameway, but I wonder, does yours over heat with such a little shroud? -
I drove to Kankakee, Il to visit Hybridz member Bluto and I picked up my 5spd tranny for my swap, and I also got from Bluto a 2spd Taurus fan. I want to hook this up but I want opinions on whats the best but cheapest radiatior switch? This one comes with the relay from Summit racing and is 39.75 and is made by a company called Derale. I look forward to your comments. Can anyone tell me where is a good place to get the plastic anchors to attach it to the radiator cheap? http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DER%2D16759&N=4294860934+115&autoview=sku

Can normal cars burn this or do you have to have a special vehicle to burn it? I saw a station selling it locally and it was 25 cents cheaper.

Olderthanme, can you upload some of the photos? I forsomeunknownforsaken reason, can not see Xanga's images. I would love to see how this is turning out. Thanks Rick

While I plan on purchasing the tranny this weekend, I wonder if I can install some of the other parts and have it ready for when I get the opportunity later on. I was thinking maybe do the pedal swap and install the clutch cylinder and the line so that when the time comes, everything will be down there already. I plan on building cinderblock ramps to gain more clearance. Just seeking any input I can get. Thanks Rick

I have had the problem ever since I bought my 300zx a couple of months ago where the running lights turn on by themselves. It has been driving me nuts. You can find new ones for about 100.00 or more, and I bought one out of the junk yard for $9.99. It turns out my "new to me" turnsignal stalk was also bad but it allowed me to look at how it works without taking my steering columm apart. This is probably the easiest fix I have encountered on a car ever. Follow what ever instructions you have for removing the steering wheel and the panels around it on the dash. After unloosening the screen that holds the assembly together tight, pulle the assembly out some and then remove the 2 screws that hold the turn signal switch in. Unplug the switch and the head light motor wires and take a look at the switch. You should see a clearish white snap on panel covering copper connectors (they look like miniature popcicle sticks.) take this off but dont lose it. The big one in the middle, is the running lights. Take a look at the middle one and you will see that when you turn the switch, it should go up and down as you turn the lights on and off. It probably just sits there. now look at it from a tilted angle and you can see that it is constantly making contact with a small round copper contact, which keeps the lights on. If you use a very small flat head screw driver, you can pry up the copper contact and see a small square piece of rubber underneath it. while holding up the contact, you can see if you turn the switch, the black piece comes up, but not enough. Here is how I fixed mine. I placed a small flat head screw driver underneath the contact between the round contact underneath the copper paddle, and the rubber lifter and I put a slight bend upwards in it, about 5 degrees. I then went just a little closer to the round contact and while lifting up on it slightly, I used another flat head and put a slight downward angled bend in it. Like a stretched out <--Z-->This allows the paddle to ride the rubber lifter and still make contact like it is supposed to... This definitley fixed my problem. I know this problem plagues many 300ZX owners, I thought it could be made a sticky.

ITEM WAS SOLD, thanks. -
I purchased from the junk yard the stereo plug out of a 1987 Nissan Maxima. Since my wiring is cut up, I was hoping some one could help me decipher the coloring scheme so i can hook up my stereo using the factory wires. I tried ZBUM's but some of his dont match . Here is what I have. Red w/ green stripe = (zbum=illumination) = Yellow w/ green stripe = (zbum=ignition) = Yellow w/ blue stripe = Yellow w/ red stripe = Red w/ blue stripe = (zbum=12v constant)= Red w/ black stripe = Blue w/ red stripe = black = My plan is to attach the plug that I have from the maxima to my aftermarket harness that I bought. Can anyone confirm or add to this? I would really appreciate the help. I already disconnected the 2 light bulbs as I dont need them. Thanks everybody. Rick.

When I pulled old stereo wires that the previous owner left me I saw to clips on the right side of the compartment. One bigger than the other. With this in mind, I ask everyone, Does the 300zx stereo use an integrated wiring harness and connect to these clips on the side? Just wondering if I am going to need to go to the junk yard to find a harness since mine is cut up. Thanks.

Has anyone had experience with the autolock feature on the 300zx and incorporating a car alarm with it? If I lock my Z while inside it using the handle, it will not unlock unless you roll down the window and use the key. Now the passenger side will auto lock when the driverside is engaged and I can unlock it from the inside using that handle, just not the driver side. I am shopping now for an alarm with motion sensor and I was hoping someone has already had this done. A couple of the alarms on ebay have power door unlock/lock so any help would be appreciated. Thanks Rick.

Found the color chart and there is a lot to choose from. http://www.yachtpaint.com/usa//product_guide/finishes_undercoats/US_brightside.asp?ComponentID=6663&SourcePageID=6660#1 They had quarts for 27.00, so it appears a gallon is the better buy.

Question #1: What color did you choose? I am looking at the site http://www.boatersland.com/intbrightsideg.html and they only show... INTY4259G - Blue-Glo White INTY4359G - White For that model of boat paint. I wouldnt mind trying if it came in black. I would love to try that this summer in my back yard. Question #2: Did you bring your camera back yet so we can see some pics! Here was the additional info I found on the paint. Brightside Polyurethane is the most technically advanced one-part polyurethane available. Brightside now contains Teflon« for better resistance to staining, abrasion and easy cleaning. Brightside uses Polyflow 4000«, a unique polyurethane resin, which yields excellent flow and leveling characteristics as well as incredible abrasion and chemical resistance. Brightside also takes advantage of the latest in ultraviolet technology which insures longer color and gloss retention. Together these technologies create a one-part polyurethane which gives the look of a two-part polyurethane with the application ease of a one-part enamel. Application Details - Brightside Polyurethane Area Above the waterline Finish/Sheen High Gloss Number of Coats: 2 minimum Method of application: Brush / Roller / Airless Spray / Conventional Spray Pack sizes: 1 US Gallon Availability: Usually ships the next business day. Whats the purpose of a vacuum gauge?
MIBPreacher replied to MIBPreacher's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Yes, I like the transformers, thats what I grew up with. My kids, 1 9yo and 1 4yo, even said my car looked like one from the cartoons I rented from the video store. I thought that was pretty cool. But not one time did I make fun of TheNeedforZ's carebear collection, or Tims mylittlepony obsession. No that would be just childish. I asked a honest question, thanks skipzoomie for the honest response. -
Whats the purpose of a vacuum gauge?
MIBPreacher replied to MIBPreacher's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
Lol, when you say it like that you make it sound bad. Just after I bought my car, I was in the process of buying a couple of gauges (temp, vac, etc) but needed the money for other needless things so I couldnt. Then last week, I found this setup on Ebay for $14.26 and it came with the pod. i won it at that price and I got it today, I couldnt pass up the deal since brand new I probably would have spend 50.00 for both pieces or more at the Autozone or Advance autoparts. I put it in at work and it works great, but I had to wonder, what is the purpose for the guage. How many times have you bought something just to buy it cause it looked cool? -
I think we need a moment of silence....
MIBPreacher replied to savageskaterkid's topic in Non Tech Board
Can you take a minute and tell us how it happened? This has the makings of a good campfire horror story... -
I probably sound stupid for asking this, but what is the purpose of the gauge anyways? I bought one off of ebay that came with the single plastic pillar mount. I installed it today and tied it in with my Manifold connection, it does look cool to see the gauge move and all, but I was just wondering. I show 22 on my gauge at idle, 0 at full throttle. Thanks, Rick

Correct me if I am wrong, but the speedometer difference has no impact on increasing/decreasing your mileage. Remember, the method we use to calculate mileage is an average. If you do mostly city driving and got that, I would say thats pretty awesome. If you did mostly Highway driving, then I would say thats ok. If we get 19 city, 25 highway, That would average out to 22mpg, and if you filled it with 18 gallons and went 399 miles, you would get 22mpg. I run mine hard sometimes, I usually average 19-21mpg. 2cents
