  1. I agree with the g-mann, but,the boat guys have been doing cheep constuction for a long time. Its a good idea. They will have a better idea on how to make things without pre pregs and the like. Go for it. Douglas
  2. I was having some work done to my wifes Subaru and the guy doing it is a big clevo fan. He was telling me that there is a co.in aussie thats doing a ally(sp) head now. He was saying 500 hp out of the box with the right cam. I will find out more if you want. Send me a e-mail. Douglas
  3. Aaron, Body work mostly. They drivetrain is fine. I hate the 2+2 shape and there is rust in the roof so i am going to chop it and reprofile it a little so it looks like a longer 2 seater. I also plan to make a back bone chasssis that will attach to and run along the trans tunnel and then join up the strut tops. A new exhuast is needed and a little engine work. Might change the cam, but i havent really decided on that yet. I have a few more things that need to be done first. New house to be built (finally started after wait 6 months for builders) and a ss2000 class corolla that i have been playing with for years, so the zed is really a year away. Douglas
  4. Aaron, I have a 350 in my 260 2+2. I bought it converted with a cert. In a lot of ways I am surprised that it has a cert. The brakes are standard and the mounts are just ears welded onto the cross member. When i start work on it (few other project to do first) i will make them a bit better. Dont forget to study the trade and exchange. There are deals to be had. I wouldnt settle for any thing smaller then a 350. If you need some photos e-mail me and i will take some. Cheers Douglas
  5. Dont forget all the 4 valve jap v6's in small trucks. They will be north-south and come with manual boxes. Nissan, toyota, isusu, mitsi. all make them larger than 3.0 lts. Douglas
  6. I came across this the other day. It may help. http://www.git.com.au/~theedge/index.htm Douglas
  7. Import Racer, The 3s will go anywhere your imagination puts it but, there will be a lot of one off parts and fabrication. Here we can convert them to rear whell drive buy using a tranmission of the back of a 1s engine. This came in Jap import coronas and celicas here. Then you have to make the engine sit straight up and change the oil pumps around to work with its new position. You will then need to fabricate a new exhuast manifold becuase the turbo is right where you will want your engine mounts (of a 1s as well). There is more on this swap here: http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/phil.bradshaw/INDEX.HTM He used to have something about these swaps, But I didnt seee it just now. Then you need to figure out how to but it im your Z. Good luck Douglas
  8. ANTI-LAG. This is what you need. The rally guys use it. Its a extra injecter in the exhuast that puts fuel in when you back of the gas. This keeps the turbo spooled. Sounds wicked to. It will scare all the dogs in the neigbourhood and probably get you arrested. But you will have fun doing it. Douglas
  9. The starion engines we got were all single cam. I dont recall them being that easy to tune without a heap of head work. There was one that used to race in the old group a over in aussie and even with the nasty race gas they used it would only put out 320 flywheel hp. In saying that my father in law has a new evo 7. Fastest car I have ever been in and 280 hp standard. Some say more. Douglas
  10. You may have to look a little further into the kind of tracks you will run at. A turbo car will go better on tracks that are more open with lomg straights to open it up on. A n/a motor will be better on a tighter track. Th f1 guys said that they needed 20% more power from a turbo car to keep up with a n/a one. No doubt the turbo is faster in a straigt line but the lap times would be the same because the n/a car would be better throught the corners and faster out of them. Douglas
  11. What have you been doing in my shower scottie? Douglas
  12. Anythings possable but, that wont fit between the frame rails. They are a real pain to work on as well. The first time I changed the plugs on my wifes legacy gt turbo (wrx motor) it took four hours. Goes nicely though and has a wicked growl when pushed. Douglas
  13. Another option is the 308 holden. Its lighter then the chev and you can get the parts. I saw it done in a 280z in a street machine mag many years ago. Douglas
  14. Dr gas's Nascar boom tubes! Dont forget the x-pipe as well. MORE POWER. There is a link to them from spintechs site. I doubt the are legal but then, are open pipes? Douglas
  15. The engine he is talking about is a 2.0 straight 6 from a jap spec nissian laurel or something similar. Its not worth swaping it for the 2.8 imho, but using the turbo of it should get you performance a little better then the stock 2.8 turbo. Which would be worth it imho. Douglas
  16. Ferrari 360 modena at the melbourne G.p. They have a race series called the nations cup in Aussie. Mustang cobras, vipers, Ferraris, porsches, and lamborginis. All the cars sounded great, except the porsches. The vipers stood out as well. Those things shook the ground. Douglas

    Mid engine LS1/T56

There are a group of guys who put small blocks in porsche 914s and use the porsche gearbox. The standard one the 914 comes with is good up to 300hp, but they do seem to have to baby them to keep them alive. I always thought the subaru gear box would be nice for a mid engined car but they are not the strongest. Mabye the 6 speed out of the lastest STI WRX would be up to it. Here is a link to the Porchev fellows: http://www.renegadehybrids.com/main.htm Cheers, Douglas
  18. Howdy, I looked at doing this about 7 years ago to a zx I had at the time. I think i worked out that you could rum 11 psi with a intercoller and the standard internals. The pistons might not like this in the long run though. Pick up ebery thing you can. i would even try to get the fuel pressure regulater as well. It wont be a complete bolt on, but is close enough to not be to difficult. The throttle bodys are different. Where are you going to put the oil return line from the turbo? Go for it. Its a cheep way to go turbo. Douglas
  19. Dont forget that Holden runs this engine in rear wheel drive form in commadores in Aussie. If you could get a intake from there your problems would be solved. Douglas
  20. I tend to agree with Katman a bit on this one. It does apear that the load paths on most of the store bought cages are not to good. In there defence, however, if you get the load paths right then it really becomes a race car and is a real pain to get in and out of. With a little extra work these cages can be made better and should be seen as a inexpensive place to start. The local racing rules here say that we only have to run one diagonal bar in the back and doesnt worry if it goes fron the roof to the strut or the roof to the floor. I would guess that the roof to the floor is best in a roll over. If you look at the cages in a lot of the world rally cars, you will find that a lot of them dont have roof to floor diagonals. I think this might be more for space, but in saying that, they are some of the stiffest cars out there. And safest. Anyway, good on you Lone. Its about time you caged the beast. Have a look around at some of these cages; http://www.e30m3performance.com/tech_articles/cage_symposium/cage_symposium.htm A couple of small canges and a little extra tube will make it work better. Cheers Douglas

    New Manifold?

Dr gas says that a good x-pipe also sounds like 180 degree headers. I think you would lose power with set up you suggest. The secound pipes would be to long. I have had conflicting info on the subject. The only real reason i would go the 180 degree header way is if i was sure i would get more power. Grumpy said they will but didnt mention how much or if it were worth it. I do wonder why they are baned in a lot of stock car classes though? Must be something in it. Cheers Douglas
  22. Are you going to go around corners or in a straight line. This will make a big diference to what you might use. I was thinking the other day that a turbo set up of a worked gn might be the go. The exhuast would have to fabed but you might find a set up used for good money as a starting point. After all, Scottie is makeing 500 hp and he has a standard turbo, i think. The v8 would make even more low down torque. Mabye not the best thing for the z chassis but it would be fun. Douglas
