  1. I was taking the Zzzap! over to a buddy's house to give him a ride shortly after I finished my turbo install. Two guys in a MkIII VW Golf that was painted rattlecan olive drab primer with the rusty hood look came zooming up next to me and I saw their heads whip around to check out my intercooler. I noticed that they had "rattlecan mafia" stenciled on the quarter panel, and I just had to laugh. I can only assume they ran up on me to appreciate my fine rattlecan spray job, but they were blocking the lane I need to be in in order to get off at the proper exit. I had to downshift into third and floor it so I could get around them, and they clearly weren't ready for that maneuver...the looks of astonishment were priceless, made moreso by the fact that they were in my rearview. That was the first time I'd actually seen that rusty hood thing besides the time Auxiliary posted it to the non-tech section that one time way back...

  2. KTM, it's not as hard as you might think to do something like that. Just do the lightest color first, and build up. One of these days I'll take a better picture just of the tree (My car is parked in St. Pete at my grandfather's, I'll be living most of the week in Orlando, and spending weekends in Tampa with my wife) or I can scan in a drawing paint by number style so you can maybe do a template (this would work better on the Oni than the RS-III since they're pretty flat). Or if you want a different shape, maybe we can figure something out that would fit your build better than the tree. If you were local to me, I'd do it for you if you bought the paint, but being as you're on the other end of the country...

Seeing as they're Onis, I'd be tempted to do like an Oni (minor demon, like an imp) face, or maybe a fox or something...

  3. The tree was hand painted from three or four (don't recall) different colors of touch up paint while I was working at the Saturn parts department, if you can believe that. It looks better on the white ones than it does on the black ones (I did my rear wheels in black) in my opinion:

In retrospect, I should have done the rear wheels in white, and the front in black so I wouldn't have to worry so much about brake dust, but I rarely drive the car, so it won't matter too much...

If you do end up painting your center sections, be sure and have some vinyl Oni logos made up, otherwise people will just assume they are the S-A3As. For awhile I had mine graphite with a polished lip, and I hand cut the Impul Hoshino Racing RS-III logos out of reflective vinyl (think Stop sign lettering), but I got tired of it and wanted something a little more "out there" like the rest of the car.

Definitely post pictures of those on the car once you get them ready, the Advan Oni is one of my favorite wheels of all time! By the way, you'll need spacers if you want those to fit on a Z with that offset.

  4. I don't have Advans, but I DO have Impul RS-III's which are often mistaken for Advans. I took the bolts out, but the way mine are put together, the two halves of the lip sandwich the center section (hard to tell from your pictures, but the Onis appear to be the same...look at where the valve stem cutout is, and it will show you the various layers). There is an adhesive on the bead that keeps the pieces from leaking-in effect glueing the rim sections together, and I didn't take that off. I've found that when painting wheels, you can easily mask off the lip by just making a cylinder out of posterboard and resting it on the edge of the lip. I painted my MOMOs and my Impuls in this way. My Impuls had 12pt 8mm bolts, with 6pt 10mm nuts on the back, and aside from the torque needed to break them loose (I was worried about stripping the 12pt side, the bolts are all chromed and have "Impul" cast into the heads), I didn't have too much trouble...but there are 49 per wheel! PIA...I took the bolts out so I could paint the lips blue with the Dupli-color Metalcast paint. It looks pretty good, I think.

The white is Duplicolor wheel paint, and I used their wheel clearcoat over the whole thing after I finished.

And the MOMOs for good measure:

Hope that was helpful. By the way, did you get your wheels off of eBay, or did you use the main website? They have all the eBay auctions on the site as well, and there are usually more photos on the website than the auctions...For the record, if that's the only picture you were given, that was VERY misleading!

  5. My wheels came in looking just like the photos, I ended up repainting them because they needed it, but that wasn't rbmotoring's fault. I had no problems at all with their customer service or the product. I'm sorry you were disappointed with what you got, but brake dust comes off pretty easy, and as for the corrosion...:worthless:

Let's see the pictures they posted of the wheels, then show us what you got. I think that's only fair when stating something like that. They almost always detail the problem areas on their wheels, I'm sure to avoid situations just like this.

For instance, here is a 15" Oni that's still for sale from the main www.rbmotoring.com site, and you can clearly see the rust on the bolts, and the scuffed finish on the spokes:

  6. that photo was posted in one of the old OS giken threads by HS30-H himself, if I recall correctly. I think it might even have been the same thread that Alan posted the turbo LY engine towards the end...

Here's the thread, looks like Alan emailed it to speeder, who then posted it up somewhere around page 2 or so...

*edit* I don't recognize either the username, or the car (might not be a "he" though, Lauren T and the Z to designate the car?). Definitely haven't seen too many Z's on white-stripe tires here in Tampa. I've always hated tamparacing and most of the people I see posting on there. I had a bunch of friends try and get me into it even back in my Honda days, and I hated it then too...

  7. This is my main wheel, 3-piece Impul Hoshino Racing RS-III (all the little bolts have IMPUL cast into them). 17X7" front with a 215/45R17 Falken Ziex 512, and 17X8" rear with a 255/40R17 Falken. +38mm offset on both, I'm using 1.5" spacers. These wheels are both 4 AND 5 X 114.3, but I've got 4-lug hubs on the car.

And I also have a set of MOMO Quasar 15X7" +30mm offset (use the same adapters) 4X114.3 bolt spacing:

  8. You need a throttle body? I just happen to have one, but it's missing the plate. I cut one out of thin copper that I was using for printmaking, but it's kind of floppy, and I don't think it would work well at all...I'll trade you for an R200 that doesn't clunk when coasting? It does have the TPS on it.

  9. Hey Dan, something I like to do when using colored pencils is to get a white one and go over the other colors with it. this will smooth out the scribble effect so common with colored pencils, and help it look professional. As a side note, this will also work with crayons, just use a white crayon instead of a pencil. Also, if you have to use crayons, it helps if you lay it on really thick, and then scratch off the extra wax with something sharp like an exacto knife or a razor. Not that I still color with crayons or anything, and spend my time developing advanced techniques for using them...that would make me some kind of guy with too much time on his hands or something...

hate to bring up old stuff, but just to illustrate the difference:

NOT with the white over color:

    WITH the white overcolor:

  10. The picture was obviously taken in an emergency/hospital room.

Maybe the nurses cleaned everything up waiting for the doctor to come in and remove it.

I've been to the emergency room for trauma, and they don't do much cleanup while you're waiting. They surely don't launder your clothes while you're waiting for the doctor...I still say bogus, regardless of the snopes page.

  11. I suppose none of you have ever inadvertantly struck oil when looking for gold (if you catch my meaning...)? How long does that bleeding take to stop? The fork would have to go through the skin on both the inside, and the outside of the nose in addition to the cartilage, in four different spots. There would have been blood like crazy, and there is none in these photos. Look at the fork handle in relation to the arm. There is definitely something fishy there...
