I got mine from http://www.hybridynamics.com I also got Nismo 740 injectors from them. The only problem I have had was with the ROM tune. It is now about fixed. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. Oh, and they were the cheapest around too. $1110 for the GT-2871R

My thoughts on the JTR mounting position
Lewis Maudlin replied to jakeshoe's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
My 2 cents. I think the rearmost position is the best. You suggest that a daily driver would benefit from a farther forward engine: However with the JTR setup: The weight distribution is better. The car turns much easier. The engine is easier to cool with a big radiator and big electric fan. Just my opinion having done a couple of swaps. -
I am running the Jags tha run setup. Camaro radiator aluminum and plastic. Taurus two speed fan. Radiator was like $125 Fan was like $80

First REAL drive and gas mileage discovery
Lewis Maudlin replied to Ansel Marrow's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I used to get 12 mpg from my 355 w/400 hp mated to 700R4 and 3.54. Of course, I have a heavy foot. With a 305 and a 3 speed, you should be able to get similar mileage. -
Spark plug recommendations - Alex -

Actually, I have been having trouble with my car every since I switched to Z32, etc. Today, I finally found the problems. I think the main problem was the crank angle sensor was off by one tooth. I am still reading too much timing which I don't understand. Anyway, everything is running great and the plugs are no longer fouling. Thanks to everyone for suggestions. -

OK, I tried the plugs Alex recommended and I fouled them immediately. I finally got my setup fixed. I put in Denso IK20's stock number 5304. They are just as expensive, but Autozone stocks them since they fit the SER and GS300 and a few other Lexus cars. They seem to work well. Just a bit of info for those looking for readily available plugs. -

Next question Those are an 8 heat range. Do I need an 8 or a 7. I have the GT2871 and usual mods. I should have 350-360 whp. Anyone? -

that doesn't look like a standard NGK part number. Normally V-power have 3 letters then a number e.g. BKR7E PFR7E. Is that the NGK number or the supplier's number? -

I had PFR's that were fouled. I got BKR's. The tightening nut on top is bigger preventing a socket from getting into the plug well. Let me know the part number for the 355 hp. -
What spark plugs should I run in my 350hp SR20DET? I have about worked the kinks out and need to replace the plugs again.

350 + open diff = crap too

Looks pretty shady to me.

I call bullshit. But really, I am sure he is a capable tuner, but 2 hours with a Power FC is a little unrealistic even if he is the absolute best Power FC programmer out there.
-
Yes, what he said.
-
I did the Power FC. Check my posts. The Power FC was a pain. Even with the FC datalogit. I suppose if I knew enough about programming it, there would be a lot you could do. It is hard to find a professional that will program the Power FC. I have switched to Enthalpy ROM tune. It is much easier. Enthalpy does a retune for cheap. I will probably get a piggy back to fine tune some day if I have a problem.

Indiana or Midwest SR20DET swap for me?
Lewis Maudlin replied to Lewis Maudlin's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
My swap was done by Jim at http://www.allroadmotorsports.com He did an excellent job. He is a great guy. The only trouble I have had is that I am now having an electrical issue after my swap to a GT2871R, 740's, etc. Soon, it will back up. Also, he was very reasonable. I stopped by his shop a few days ago, and he was dropping a 2JZ in a SC300. -
I had a client that the same thing happened to 8 years ago. He had bought a car, signed the paperwork and they had sold his trade. He had financed the car with them. The financing was supposed to be assigned to Ford who refused to accept the loan. They threatened to report the car stolen. They attempted to trick him into coming in for service so they could steal the car. Finally, I contacted them and thanked them for the loan on his behalf. I explained to him that if he went to jail, he would likely be very rich...well rich when he got out.

Sweet curve. I am still aspiring to the 355hp. Is that still the stock bottom?

FINALLY!!! Bits of wisdom. Spare SR20DET parts
Lewis Maudlin replied to Lewis Maudlin's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
Well, I threw the Power FC, Commander and Datalogit on ebay for anyone interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280010991399 -
FINALLY!!! Bits of wisdom. Spare SR20DET parts
Lewis Maudlin replied to Lewis Maudlin's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
The SARD fittings are the stock fittings that they come with JDM. I don't know what size they are. -
Finally got my car running right. Issues here issues there, but the majority of the issues were timing. So in order to get my car running right, I have bought and not used the following: Power FC for 91-93 SR20DET with commander (used 1 week) _____ $1000 together shipped FC-Datalogit to hook laptop up to Power FC / lower 48 NEW JDM SARD adjustable fuel pressure regulator $100 plus shipping NEW HKS actuator $100 plus shipping NEW Walbro 255lph in tank fuel pump $90 shipped I am going to put the items on ebay if I don't hear from someone wanting them for a reasonable price. For people going to try the swap, here is what I have learned. The Power FC is great for someone who knows what they are doing and will make various changes to their setup. However, I went with the ROM tune from Enthalpy. Scott does a great job and tunes for your setup. You tell him what you need and a week later, you have it. If you get the Power FC, you have to have to the FC-Datalogit which you can change entire fuel maps with your PC. Without the FC-datalogit, you have to make change at least 800 individual settings by pressing buttons repeatedly and scrolling. This equals 1000's of button presses to change the map. The FC-Datalogit is a necessity for the Power FC. The SARD adjustable fuel pressure regulator is unnecessary since Scott at Enthalpy can tune for the higher fuel pressures cause by the stock regulator and the Walbro fuel pump. The stock fuel pressure regulator is also difficult to remove since it is built into the stock fuel rail. I bought the HKS actuator since I was having problems with mine. It turned out that one of the bolts holding the actuator in place had worked loose. I had a similar problem with the bolts on the turbo. Neither is anything a little tig weld couldn't fix. I never used the new JDM HKS actuator. If you are looking for a fuel pump for a Z, specify external. The internal fuel pump probably replaces the stock 240sx fuel pump fine, but you need the external for the Z. BKR7E's are the right plugs for 350 to 400hp SR20DET's. Well, they are the cheap version anyway. They are like $1.50 each compared to $12.99 iridium plugs. When you are fouling plugs to get your engine running right, it is better to foul $1.50 plugs than $12.99 plugs.

Considering SR20...but for S130
Lewis Maudlin replied to JDMFairladyZX's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
Want to do an affordable swap? I don't know what you consider affordable, but the SR20DET is not cheap. The 280ZXT is cheap. Take a look at the costs thread in this forum to get an idea of what the swap costs. I love mine for the power and gas mileage, however I don't know whether I would tell anyone it was affordable. -
ACT Clutches: HDSS Organic vs Sprung 6 Puck
Lewis Maudlin replied to nope's topic in Nissan 4 Cyl Forum
I have the HDSS organic and like it just fine. I drive 70 miles a day in my SR20DET powered 280Z with GT2871R and usual mods for 350hp. -
why not an sr20det. There is a guy on freshalloy with one. It rocks. Good gas mileage and a little get up and go.
-
I didn't have a problem. My driveshaft does not hit my swaybar. My SR20DET is mounted as far back as possible. Maybe Alex at Vildini knows more. I used his mounts and with those mounts, I didn't have a problem.
