  1. Please ignore issues 1 and 2. I fixed them. Really, I caused them. It was an electrical issue caused by installation of a kill switch which I was forgetting to turn on. For some reason, the car was running even with the switch off, just poorly.

I will take the bonehead prize for the day.

  2. My car was running great as a T25 mildly modified SR20DET. Maybe I should have stayed in the low 200'srwhp. Anyway, here is my problem.

I sent these questions to Scott at Enthalpy. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

    My car is SR20DET, 740's, GT2871R, Z32, usual mods.

    1. At vaccuum, cruising down highway at 60 mph in 5th gear it runs for 15 minutes then stalls. I can smell gas and the car seems to be flooded out. I suspect a lack of fuel pressure regulator. Could this be the problem? If so, do I need a retune if I add one?

    2. Before the car warms up, it runs like crap breaking up and stuttering.

    3. My car spools to 5-10 psi, pauses, then spools the rest of the way as a function of boost. It does not max out boost at normal rpms. It only maxes boost out when it maxes out rpms.

  3. OK, here is the story.

My car ran fine with the T25 stock turbo.

I switched to GT2871R, 740's, Z32. I have all normal mods except cams. The tune is an Enthalpy ROM tune.

I had a cheapo mbc and an ebay Freddy type S (Fake Greddy) BOV. My boost would go to about 10 psi, drop back to 8 psi, hold there for a couple of seconds then spool as a function of RPM, only hitting 17psi at close to 7000 rpm.

I removed the cheapo mbc and there was no effect.

I replaced the ebay Freddy type S with another ebay Freddy type S. Then my car boosted to 7 psi, stalled there for a couple of seconds then spooled as a function of boost.

I figured that I have a boost leak.

I replaced the Freddy type S with a real HKS SSQV. When I put in the SSQV, I had to change some of the intercooler piping. And, YES, the SSQV is recirculated.

Now, my car boost to 5 psi, stalls there then spools as a function of boost.

I think I must have a boost leak. Does anyone have any other suggestions or do you think it is a boost leak?

  4. 1 1/2 away from your house? I would have taken mine there if it wasn't 3 from my house. 3 days that is. You are lucky to have such a competent shop so close. Take advantage of it. Their swaps just keep getting better and better. I would have taken my car several hours to have them do the swap.

  5. If you are looking for the last area to rust, don't check the battery box and floor pans. Those are always the first area to rust. I think you should check the doors as the last area. The other option is the rear quarters. Usually if they have gone, it is indicative of more.

  6. OK, I have disconnected the mbc. I have replaced the Freddy BOV with another Freddy. I believe that the problem is the BOV. I believe it is leaking boost at 7-9 psi. Apparently this is very common with that BOV. My boost is getting to 7-10 psi, falling or stalling for 2 seconds, then spooling up but only as a factor of rpm. I figure it is still leaking, the GT2871R just puts out enough air to continue for the boost to increase. The rest of the piping does not appear to leak. Also, if there was a leak in the rest of the piping, the boost probably would not increase after stalling. Is my reasoning correct?

Should I just fork out the dough and get the HKS SSQV with recirculation kit?

Does it work reliably? I plan on running 17psi for daily driving.

  7. So, my BOV has two vaccuum line fittings. One is near the top and goes to a T which goes to the intake and to the wastegate. The other is angled 45 degrees downward. Should I remove the T and connect the 45 degree angled line from the BOV to the wastegate? Right now it is not connected to anything. Am I understanding correctly?

Maybe to put the question better,

What do I connect the vaccuum fitting which is angled 45 degrees downward out of a Greddy type S BOV to?

  8. My Greddy type S has two brass vaccuum fittings coming out of it. The top one goes to the wastegate. What is the other one for? Should it be capped? Does it hook to something? My boost was stalling at 7-10psi for a few seconds before spooling the rest of the way so I removed the mbc and replaced the BOV. It has been raining here for a week so I haven't been able to see if the problem is fixed.
