  1. Yeah it was freezing that night. Good job Im glad you were so much faster then my auto teacher. Your 2nd gear shift was amazing. Are you planing on getting a cage? Hopfully I can get my car out next time. Wed. nights are over but I think there is another open drag night thing on sun. the 26 im not positive tho.
  2. pretty self explanatory. I was changing the plugs for the 1st time since I got the car and cyl. #2 plug was cross threaded. I have performer rpm heads. Anyone have any advice?

    lsd? r200

    I was wondering is a 240sx r200 lsd with the cv half shafts would work ,replacing the stock r180 on a 240z, instead of doing the r230 conversion. I was wondering because it is alot easier to find parts to replace things for the 240sx lsd r200 and cheaper. Also because it is an r200 you wouldnt need the custom diff mount and mustache bar right?

Have you ever thought about turboing the l28? you can get to the 400hp range that way and keep it semi reliable. with the v8 swap plan it to be twice as much as you origionally think it will cost you and then add half again with the ls1. Are you going to do all of the work your self? or pay someone else to do it? Not trying to discourage you or anything because v8 z's are the way to go in my opinion its just they get expensive especially an ls1. well good luck with your project. and welcome.
  5. yeah I dont even like driving until around 10 when its still 90. My problem was that I had a leak near my water pump which I was able to fix. Its still running a little hot but I think I just need to get the air out of the lines now. Well good luck I hope you fix your problem with the fan.

  9. If the engine want going into a z I would feel bad a car that clean is getting parted out...lol
  10. What about something like the fitch fuel catalyst would that be something worth doing or is there another side to that?

Well I am only 17 and I know how everything works and have worked on certain parts of cars but I haven’t had to deal with something like this in the last two years, this is just one of the things I have never done. I have people who can help me so I feel pretty comfortable about doing it myself. I think they where charging 2500 to fix the 2 gaskets fix the "leaky intake manifold" which is just the lose bolt. And the coolant leak near the water pump which I am not even sure is existent. They also wanted to change the battery and they said the heater hose was to close to the right headers and would eventually melt, which hasn’t been a problem in the last three years but they told me they needed to no matter what I told them. I was just getting an estimate and the car is back at my house so hopefully I can have it decent condition by the end of the weekend.
  12. OK so apparently my neighbor looked at the car with me. I have a leak in my alternator and distributer gaskets. I also have a coolant leak near my water pump and my intake manifold. Im not sure if I am up for doing the work my self but a shop quoted me for 2500 so I think i am going to try and do it myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help you guys I am pretty sure it is just that one of the header and intake manifold bolts just got lose on me and there was a little bit of coolant that leaked out and two of the spark plugs were coated pretty well in oil so I am going to try and fix that up and then try and figure out why it wont start tomorrow. I am almost positive the starter is good so I think it is the ignition switch. Thanks again for the help and I am defiantly going to order that leak down tester for the future, mike
  15. It was still the first week I had the car and I was leaving from a stop sign. I wasn’t used to how stiff the clutch was and how fast the rpm's shot up I dropped the clutch and the half shaft u joint just snapped on the side with the diff. It ran fine for the first few days after I got it back and all weekend so it was fine for about 300 miles. thanks mike

  17. Hey I have a few questions about my car. The last 3? days it has been running a lot worse. I just got a u joint problem fixed about a week ago too. 1st the car has been running a good 40 degrees hotter than normal its to the point where I am scared to drive it most of the time because of how hot it is running its also about 30 degrees cooler outside which makes me even more worried .2nd the car has started a lot worse it wither seems like its flooded or needs gas and no in between. before the car would start perfect every time and now it usually needs a couple of tries. and 3rd if the rpms are at around 3k and I step on it it seems like it chugging and the engine almost completely stops and then slowly revs up. well any pointers would be greatly appreciated thanks, mike p.s the oil temp. is also about 20 degrees hotter. I was going to flush the radiator and check the thermostat and also check the heads for oil leakage but I am going to wait will morning when the engine cools off.

  19. I went to Joey's and got the axel went back to the shop and they had it in the car in less than 20 min. It cost me 120$ and a lecture about how since I didn’t do his suggested repair is going to lead to me flipping the car and killing myself next time this happens. After I convinced him it was possible to change the u joints he admitted that he found them too but didn’t think that it was a good idea because of the above reason. Then he went on to tell me that the 300zx rear end and the cv joints aren’t any stronger and that it just depends on how I drive the car, also that it would just be more expensive. After that I got an autobiography about his professional drag racing days and how the only reason he is alive is because he never got parts from a junkyard. O well I am just glad to be out of there. I am defiantly never going back to that shop. Thank you guys for all the help. Mike
  20. So the shop called back and I asked about the CV joints and they didn’t think it was possible which is what I was expecting. But the guy was also trying to tell me that the u joints aren’t replaceable and he would need to do the whole shaft. Luckily for me Joey had a spare r200 axle and the shop said all I need to do is pay for the work. Apparently they already have the back of my car all torn apart so they weren’t very happy when I started suggesting taking it somewhere else. At least I know where NEVER to take my car when I have a problem. Well thank you guys for all the help and a very special thanks to Joey for helping me out with the axle. thanks, mike
  21. ok thanks I was going to replace all the u joints just to be on the safe side and I got the car a week ago and I would better know where I am. I think I will call them back and get an estimate on switching to cv joints instead and go from there. If not I think I will take it somewhere else and just get the u joints.
  22. well the shop called back and said they wanted to do the flange short shafts and halfshafts. they said 750 for parts and 320 for work. I asked about the u joints and if they where going to redo all of them and they said no.

  24. Well I got the car about a week ago.The guy at the shop told me he wants to change the drive shaft to prevent future problems. the drive shaft is fine right now though.
  25. So last night I blew apart one of my half shaft u joint bearings. The shop it was towed to wants to replace all of the u joints which I agree with, Both half shafts which I can also see, but they also want to replace the drive shaft. does that sound right? The owner of the shop is going to give me an estimate on monday. Im not sure what I want to do yet though. Oh and its on a 240z with a chevy 327 (Brett's old z) and it has a R200 3.9 non-lsd rear end from a 280zx. any and all advice would be greatly appriciated thanks, mike
