  1. Deja, which wire are we talking about here? the positive that feeds the coil???? I tapped into the original coil feed wire under the battery. (the one that fed the straight 6 coil) was I supposto do something different? Im a little confused...
  2. throttle, timing, and secondarys. all in working order.
  3. Vac advance is working. (holds suction) At 4500 rpm it hits the wall. just stops pulling and hovers there. Under no load it will rev to a full 6000 rpm. sbc 350 vortec heads, 8psi @97 gph fuel pump. q-jet carb (new) Iv been dealing with thias for some time, the only thing left to replace is the distributor...
  4. Could my HEI distributor be what is rev limiting me at 4500 rpm? I think it came out of a truck... If not what could be the problem...
  5. Im running 3.90 gears, a TH-350 tranny (1:1 3rd gear ratio) and 26" tall tires. 300 hp. wil I top out in the run.
  6. Hell yes Im going. I dont know if Ill race or not. 74zorro will I see you there? What is your engine/tranny combo? That thing rocked. Im running a 86-94 small block 350 mildly modified to about 330 horse at the flywheel. Im using a Th350 tranny w/shift kit. All it needs is paint and it will be done. Im still gonna build on it until it will hit 12's.
  7. Well I finally got to run my v8z at the track. I was only able to make three runs due to the high volume of racers on the last street legal race night of the season. I dropped the pressure to 23 psi in my street tires and went for it. I couldnt hook up to save my life!! I ran a respectable time of 13.9 @ 100.2 mph w/ a reaction time of 0.022. I know it can hit mid 13's. By next year Ill have a bigger cam, slicks and a cool air induction. Ill keep ya posted...
  8. Use 280zx (2+2) rear springs.. They are for a 3800lb car. I put them in all 4 corners and it lifted me up to the top. Very stiff springs. They do the job well and only squat about 2" under acceleration... Keeps the handeling stiff also...
  9. About 330 fwhp w/ aTH350 trans... Lots of mods and alot of fun... I hate those rice burners that think they are all that. A srt-4 was only running a 13.8 at the track. They are way over rated. Iv also ridden in one. They are quick to about 40mph...
  10. This has nothing to do w/ vetts but I thought id tell ya... I raced a Cobalt ss at 3 different lights... Spanked him in all 3. I know its not a big accomplishment but it was worth the look on his face when a 71' 240 v8 z wooped the crap out of him with ease... $15,000 for nothing. I shoulda put $$$ on it... LoL P.S. Yea z's really hook---Because they are very light...
  11. Iv had so many problems with my plug clearance... I never thought of cutting the plug socket. Good idea. I solved the clearance problems on my block hugger headers by using accels header plugs... It will work for now...
  12. Im going to look into valve adjustments this week end... Maybe that will help. This is the second carb that iv put on this motor... PROBLEM IS STILL THERE...
  13. I have a 1/4" spacer between the carb and the manifold. Iv already checked if it was snagging the "throttle plate"---its not. My linkage is pulling back all the way and im getting full throttle. Could it be cam timing? or to tight on the valve lash adjustment? Q-jet carbs have that funny "flap" above the secondaries, when I nail the throttle the "flap" opens up only about a 1/2". Is this normal? I was told that the flap allowes only as much air to enter the carb as the engine draws (this avoids flooding, as a 750cfm carb is too much for a sbc) Could it be starving my secondaries? If so, how do I remidee this?
  14. When I hit 4000 rpm it just sits there. It doesent miss, doesn't stumble, it gains very little rpm after that, if any... If it was the fuel it would still accelerate after 4000rpm but slower right? Iv done the fuel system already and everyone has told me its enough psi. Could it be too much?(8psi at the carb, @ 97gph with 5/16 lines... The car runs norlam and good at all times. When it hits that mark it just sits there.
  15. I just found out the carb was bought is for a 402, and jetted as such. They jet the carbs for a small or big blocks... This one is the small calibration. It should feed up to 385 hp.. Im looking at more like maybe 300 hp. So it should be plenty of fuel... I did a compression check and it ranged from 163psi-170psi, so all is good with that. Someone told me it could be the valve lash adjustment is to tight. Could this be true? The engine was originally a TBI set up. Do you think that I have the wrong intake manifold (edelbrock proformer for vortec heads) to mach the cam? could that be why I cant rev past 4000 rpm in first? It isnt as noticeable in 2nd or 3rd gear. The engine was a stock replacement for a truck, could the cam be set up for towing? Iv gone through my entire HEI distributor, wires, plugs, coil, capasitor, ecu, and fuel delivery... Im at my wits end and have been struggeling with this problem for over a month... If anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. Iv tried everything else...
  16. So do you think the problem lies with the carb(750cfm Q-jet) or the fuel pump/delivery? (holly 8psi @97gph) The fuel guage reads 8psi at the carb... Could it be flooding out at high rpm?
  17. The ignition module is good, and I have 8 psi to the carb... It did this with the first carb, before I replaced it. Same with the new carb. The throttle is getting all the way open. The choke is wired open. I dont think it has anything to do with the carb... ( I could be wrong ) The engine also seems to lack power when its warm. If I slowly give it gas it will reach 5500 rmp. But not when I stab the throttle.
  18. My car will rev to 5,500 rpm in neutral. But when im under load it wont rev past 4000 rpm, (and iv got the pedal to the floor ) the rpm stays constant. It only does this when the car is warmed up... Iv gone through the fuel system -8psi @ 97gph, and the ignition system -HEI-(new coil, ecu.) Iv played with the timing countless times to no avail. But none of that would explain why it appears only when the car is warm. Could it be a vaccume leak or something? Any suggestions would be appreciated... If it helps, its a 350/350 Q-jet carb (new), proformer manifold, vortec heads,exhsust... but mostly stock...

  20. Up grade your rear tires to 225/70/r14. They are 26" tall and 7-1/2" wide. They will increase you top end and gas economy alot, and give your car a raked look... They WILL fit without rubbing. (and it looks awesome)
  21. Im using the same set up... almost. 350 w/ TH350. about 300 horses... What diffential are you using? What carb are you using? Im using a 750 cfm Q-jet and Im getting in the range of 16mpg when im on it. 18-20 when im just putting around... What is your top end, and freeway speed? Im having a problem with that. It runs about 2800 rpm at 55mph...
  22. Okay thanks for the hint.. Can I use the same drive shaft and tranny mount from the TH350 with the 700r4? I plan on changing it out to a 700r4. Will it all bolt in? Thanks for the help...
  23. It will start in 1st if I hammer it but it shifts very quickly to 2nd ( about 50 feet) The car doesnt downshift to first unless im really getting on it... Slow starts it will leave in second... I think it is gearing.. Anyone selling a 700R-4 or 5 speed tranny?

  25. It only cuts out right before it shifts (4000-5500 RPM ). My timing is set to about 18 degrees BTDC. Im running a Holly fuel pump @ 7-8 psi and 97gph. I have not even touched the carb adjustment... Any ideas why it is cutting out? could it be the coil?
