  1. Deja So what exactly did you end up using for the seems from the side skirts to the car? I was going to use a paintable silicone adhesive and then paint over it. I just dont want to run bondo down my whole car just for a smoother transition of the side skirts. What fender flare are you running on your car zg's? Do you think ZG fender flares would interfear with the molded side skirts? Thanks for your input
  2. Ok so I trial fitted them on the car, ground down some corners and held them in place with metal self tapping screws. Once I got them where I liked them I used loctite polythane adhesive sealant for the edges and used the screws to hold them in place. I used boards and claps to help hold them in place while the glue was setting up. This worked ok but I ended up shooting a 3/16 large washer pop rivits on the sides where the datsun symbol wasto help a snug fit and stop bubbling expansion. The side skirts are on solid know but still deciding to remove the pop rivits or not on the car. I could drill them out, fill them with an rust preventor and bondo/fiberglass over the holes or leave the three pop rivits in for more of a racer look. I will have to put pics up and get your gise opinions. Thanks again for the help, I will post up some pics when its finished.
  3. ok thanks, I will have to take some pics of before and after and get your opinion. all i need is some time this weekend to work on it.

  4. Thanks, if you have any more questions about the skirts feel free to ask.

  5. Thanks for the reply, I'am trying to get my car up to par for my towns car show. I just wanted to add the skirts to give my car a diffrent look. Wheres the best place to get some POR-15 ? and how expensive is it? I always mest with 3m fiberall bondo and some other stuff but never messed with POR-15. Thanks for the reply I appreciate the picture, you have a nice ride. thanks DatsunZman04
  6. Since you have knowledge of the other motors, I say swap it. Do a sleeper, make it look all original but have it be a beast on the inside. Its your car you do what you want to it. People who make opinions are never the ones who are trying to buy it. This is just my opinion on the subject. good luck to you and your build.
  7. Hello, I recently traded a datsun fan some parts for these type 2 skirts for my 72 datsun 240z. I have the right adhesive I was going to use plus use self taping screws on both ends in the fender wells. I wasnt going to use fiber strand and bondo the lines out. just have the look of a straight body kit. My question is under the doors, were the kit lines up with the bottom of the door, what do I use to adhere it to the car? my skirts fit awkward near the door sill and skuff plates. Should I just screw it down and use adhesive then back out the screws and bondo over the holes? or just leave the screws in? Which method would look best? I planned on leaving the screws in the fender wells, is this a good idea? I know I have lots of questions, and know I'am capable of doing this, I just dont want it to look tacky in the process. so any help would be appreciated. I can add pictures if needed. Thanks again DatsunZman04
  8. I have searched and my local custom shops have came close to a match on it. The best we could come up with is Black Sapphire metalic, Or Blue onyx pearl from lexus you also have Black sapphire pearl from lexus. Depending on what year you get depends on how dark the color is. I hope this points you close in the right direction. sorry no Paint codes.
  9. I have decided I would like to put a atleast a 6 point cage in my 240z, but I dont believe I have confident shops in my area to handle this task for a custom roll bar. I dont have a pipe bender or I would attempt to do one on my own. I have seen thes ebay kits 4 point for 199. and 6 point for around 280. with free shipping. I was just curious if anyone has used these pre bent kits or should I just pull out my checkbook and let the halfwits at the muffler shop attempt a cage install. I do not plan on drifting or racing, this is purely for strength, safty, and looks. Any info would be helpful, Thanks again DatsunZman04
  10. Thanks Ray for the info, I guess I will be placing an order for both frame rails. You didnt have any problems with the supplier did you? These people seem to be pretty legite and resonable, I just got the runaround by modern motorsports not to long ago and dont want to get hastled again. Thanks again
  11. I'am glad to finally see some info on putting in new frame rails. I do have a question, where can a person buy a set know days resonable? I have been planning on doing this once I find a place to order a set. Good luck with your build.
  12. Cummins diesel blocks can be bought in alluminum, I have one in my pulling truck, Bigger injectors, gt42 turbo, bigger intercooler, the works, but I'am safley turning close to 900hp but drivability is a factor, For a drag car it would be alright but as a daily driver it wouldnt be practical. Plus I have to inject water to cool the motor and the the rich black smoke would get annoying in a car. But I would love to see one driving down the road. It might be more practical to buy a diesel motor from a 81 to 83 maxima and building it up a little. just my thoughts and ideas on the subject. Good luck on your build.
  13. Time to invest in some wheelie bars, Nice car I bet that was one fun ride till the slam straight on to the track.
  14. The angle of the camera when the picture was taken, gives it the optical illusion that its crocked sideways a little. I used leds because its what I had plus their last a long time and are cheap. These pictures were taken during the day and the light doesnt look fluent throughout the ring, but at night the ring is completley solid ice blue. I will check into ccfl when I get a chance. This was just a poor mans tinkering fix to a simple problem. I appreciate all the feed back thanks. DATSUNZMAN04
  15. Depends, if the owner has a clear title. Theres obviously parts on the car that could be worth up 500 dollars cash but I would look for one that is not to rusted out. You will spend close to 500 buying a windshield and rubber molding for the car.I would say 200 and buy you another decent car and use that one for parts. Just my opinion, older z's in that condition are dime a dozen on craigslist. Good luck on your build
  16. Most 5 speeds run anywhere on craigslist for 150 to 200, ebay you will pay more plus shipping. In my opinion is to drive it like that till you find you another 5 speed, or take it to a trans shop and just have it overhauled. The Borg t5 are little more rare and better in most cases but are more exspensive if you come across one. In the state of MO its easier to buy a whole parts car with a 5 speed and take what you need than salvage the vehicle. Good luck on the project
  17. So a few years back I bought a Pertronix ignitor for my 72 Datsun. Needless to say I wasnt aware it was going to fry my current tach. So after figuring this out the hard way i decided to use an autometer 4" tach that i had laying around and retro fit it using the stock metal bracket and black plastic eyelid thing. I then relized i lost my turn signal so i retrofitted them with blue leds, by my shifter. I also relized that i had 1/2 of an inch all around my my tach that I would have to fill a void. So I decided to put a custom halo ring around my tach. heres a video in how i did the halo ring. I used 2 10mm blue led for the ring, 2 blue 10mm leds for the gauge light and a 5mm hi bright green for the needle. Using a online resitor calculator i figured out wheat resitors to sauter on the positive leads on the leds so the 12 volt wont fry them. Here are some pics, take in some consideration that they are bright as hell at night, and my cameras flash throws a glare. So I figure i would post to show some options and see what other people thought. Total time 8 hrs to finish. If any questions please write back and i will anwer any concers or post more pics.
  18. If the block is not cracked or needed bored it is worth the 250. My suggestion for an economic build would be to buy a alum performer intake, buy a mild cam and lifters, gasket kit, and find a pair of 305 heads 65cc from an old malibu/camaro tor bring up the compression to 9.8 to 10.1 give or take. what you have is 300 dollars plus the 250 for a total of 550 dollars for a decent mid 300 hp motor that can run on pump gas. SBC parts are dime a dozen and can be bought cheaply on craigslist. But thats my own opinion. good luck on your build.
  19. Man you are doing an epic build, I wished I had the rescources to attempt something like that. Pleas post some vids when you get her up and running, I bet the sound and response will be out of this world. Good luck on your build.
  20. I bought a 1970 240z that was so rusted it literally buckling in the center, no floor boards, spare tire, or dog legs left. I paid 250 for the complete car, but what i gained was an all original l24 motor, a good set of su carbs, a crappy 4 speed, a hood and all the gauges. Sometimes a good parts car is worth buying for the parts and scrapping the car and still making money. I would buy it if I knew the motor was still decent/ rebuildable. I would offer 350 to 400 to start then see where I stand. all the parts and rearend out of the car is well worth the money if you wanna take the time and effort. Good luck on your build keep us posted.
  21. When I get a chance I will clean everything,Do you think I could have a worn/ bad switch? Maybe I will get the heavy duty headlight harness to help out power to the front, due to it not working when the headlights are on. Thanks again I will keep you gise updated.
  22. Hello, I have been restoring a 72 datsun 240z with stock wiring for a few years know. I have came across a problem with my turn signals. I have searched older threads but no luck with the same problem I have. On my passenger side turn signal, will not work/ light up. I have checked and replaced all bulbs and flashers. Still no luck, so i grabbed my test light and its barely getting any power, when turned on. (like not enough to operate the bulb. My so thought solution, I thought I could splice into the hot wire going back to the passenger side rear turn signal and re route to the hot in the front to give me proper voltage so the turn signals to work. This worked for me to get my vehicale to pass inspection but the problem is it also lights up every time I hit the breaks. So when I drive I look like a retard touching my brakes. I figured with all the experance on here that somone might point me in the right direction, I have also looked for bare/ grounding wires and bad connections but still no luck. Any help would be appreciated. thanks DatsunZman04
