  1. Sure you want to fiberglass over a few perfectly good gauge pods? Gauges mounted in the factory vents look clean. Anyway, i'm sure a few layers of glass mat should be pretty solid, it's a fairly small opening, and has minimal flex. If you want to you could probably spray some expanding insulation foam in the holes, then trim and sand it down so you don't have do do as much buildup where the mat might depress into the holes.
  2. I'm looking into extra stiffness and support for my convertible without adding loads of extra weight. Any ideas / products / Places you welded pieces of an old bedframe to? I know there are a lot of products for Z stiffness, but i'm looking specifically for ones that support where the lack of a roof leaves me weak. I've got some support (Rollbar etc.) But I want more.
  3. Take It Out! That's probably 10 lbs!
  4. Correct. The newer platform t-birds were called super coupes with the supercharged engine. The turbo coupes were awesome machines for their time. They had some cool features too... Electronically controlled suspension that was controlled from inside the cabin. Auto-dimming brights (controlled by a light sensor on the mirror). And a few other things i'm forgetting since being in awe over my friends father's years ago. Good luck with the project. Edit: Sorry about your grandmother also. I read through the post a little closer and realized how this project came to be.
  5. So, is it a turbo coupe? or is it a super coupe with a turbo coupe motor? Either way... Racer Walsh has a good selection of ford 2.3 turbo parts. http://racerwalsh.zoovy.com/
  6. I bit the bullet this weekend and made my Z completely impractical and useless... To any normal person. I plan on the Z being my nice weather, no practical compromises weekend car. This weekend I removed the wiring harness, blower, heater, window glass, window mechanicals, windshield wipers, motor, fluid, resevoir, lines, and pretty much everything else under the dash. Shaved off what i'd estimate (by standing on the bathroom scale with and without the parts) to be almost 100 lbs. It was a long list of..."well if I don't have this, I guess I don't need this either". 1. I decided that i'm not going to install my convertible top at all which led to... 2. Who needs windows without a roof... right? Besides the car would look a lot smoother if i just molded them shut. 3. If i get caught in the rain, i'm screwed anyway... I think I have two too many windshield wipers. 4. No roof + no windows = No need for heat. 5. No heat? Why bother with the rest of the air system? Rain-X Anti Fog should do the trick, right? Yeah, so my car is 100 lbs lighter, 1500 lbs less practical, and I'm Feelin good about it.
  7. So, uh... when do we see the drivetrain in a Z? Quick, someone go buy one and crash it.
  8. Sweet Ride... Nice on the outside, business on the inside. How much weight do you think the aluminum dash saves you? Also, did you junk your old wiring? I'm thinking about doing the aluminum dash, and might also get rid of my old wiring at the same time, and using one of the "painless wiring kits" instead. Also... Do you have any pictures of the exhaust coming from the headers and how you routed it under the car? I just got my sidepipes in today, and i'm planning on going to the muffler shop this weekend. I'd like to see how tight it is. Thanks.
  9. Damn... Guy at Radio Shack told me this remote was universal. Stupid Mute Button...
  10. I would have done the same as you. Except I would have been at their trailer last night with a few bricks and different car... "adding property value". I know i'm wrong in both respects... Fine by me. I'd be rethinking whether or not they were the correct choice a few hours afterwards. I eventually would come to the conclusion that I was wrong. As it goes... hindsight is always 20/20. But between you and me... I'd still feel good about it.
  11. EXACTLY What I'm Looking For. I'm going to PM him later on tonight. Thanks for the quick direction guys. That SARD Setup is pretty sweet. Pricey Though considering I'd still have to fill all the factory holes.
  12. I just came across a thread about Dakota Digital. Very Nice. Not exactly what i'm looking for, but close. Not horribly expensive either. Only problem being that unless I have them do their custom install... which is probably a buttload of cash, I have to probably fiberglass my dash to make their instruments flow well. Or an aluminum Dash would Be Pretty Nice With Those Gauges. Still, This seems like a pretty good candidate, any other suggestions?
  13. Anyone have any sources for a digital gauge manufacturer? The most complete selection I have found is from FJO Gauges http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/buy/FJO/Nitrous/Nitrous_Pressure_Gauge I know this is a little bit of an oxymoron... but i want digital gauges with a less ricey feel to them. Not too bright. (like the blinding AFR's I've Seen). I'm looking for: Speedo Just #'s Tach Green Yellow Red (Adjustable Redline?) Oil Pressure Green to Red, Digital Bars Oil Temp Same Temp Same Fuel level Same Nitrous Same Pretty much what the 300zx has for the digi dash in gauge form for the speedo. Fuel, oil, temp, nitrous could also be like the z's setup, or rounded like the link to FJO shows. The tach can be any readable digital format (No Monster tachs). Obviously, i'll settle for anything close, but this would be ideal. Thanks For The Help In Advance.
  14. That front bumper would be awesome with those things holding the red (Reflectors?) cut out and smoothed. Then a big hunk o' billet grill to cover that entire front opening. mmm But, no... I've never seen it.
  15. Smooth. Any thoughts about putting some billet, or (maybe black) mesh between the hood, and the bumper? Are those air intake scoops on each end of that opening? Edit: At second glance those would seem to be turn signals...
  16. You could have it done in less than a week. (plus downtime for forgotten / broken parts). If you were serious and dedicated your time to it. But it's hard to put that much time into a project with work and other tasks. It would be rough, but it could be done realistically. Otherwise if you're a weekend warrior (like me)... You're looking at about a month or two? Once again it all depends on your motivation, and how much time you can put into it each day.
  17. I'll check specs on mine later. I don't remember anything off the top of my head.
  18. Why do you guys have so little room? My engine bay looks empty in comparison... I have a really thick radiator, and an oil cooler up front. www.angelfire.com/ny5/driftmiata/240z edit: Actually, looking at them side by side, they aren't too much different.
  19. The tranny has a whine in first gear... Aod=$300. I was gonna cry if I saw it go for less than $5000. I just paid $3000 For Mine, and It's Rough.
  20. This is not my car... Just want To let everyone know that his auction will probably go off a lot cheaper than most of the v8 Z's i've seen. 72 240Z with a 350/auto on ebay... it's at $1675 now. with like 2 days left. Looks clean. Almost wish I didn't just buy one so I could bid on this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=290005192209&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
