Hay what do you all think of these wheels
BBC Z replied to trowa47's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
most likely wont need a spacer. I used the Konig Imagine 18x8 with 38 offset and used no spacer. -
Hey Terry It is a House of Color BC8 base with Uk12 tangerine clear and then clear coat.

do yourself a favor do not waste your money on the car chemistry inserts they are horrible They are the worst sounding muffler in the world. I had them installed at the muffler shop started the car, jacked it right back up and cut the whole exhaust out. I used a Magnaflow 2.5 dual in dual out set up that is mounted under the car up in the drive shaft tunnel its about 1.5 inched below the driveshaft but does not hang down under the car at all. I have never rubbed my exhaust yet. But I am running 18" tires which makes the car a little taller but not much. I have about 4" under the car. It sounds great as well people alway tell me that it sounds bad as especially under full throttle it screams but isn;t bad a cruising speeds. Highly recommend the Magnaflow.

I have a 96 model t56 from a z28 and I think my syncros are already gone. I have problems speed shifting in the first 4 gears. I really like the Tremec tko 600. I have a good friend that has a mustang cobra that is a 347 stroker that is single turbo and dynoed 1150hp at rear wheel running the tko600 for a few months now and no problems what so ever. He has been to the drag strip 4 times with no problems. I think a change is coming for my big block car.

May take a look at INA insurance they have agreed value coverage especially if you have some receipts. It is covers theft, fire, collision. You do need a primary vehicle to drive other than the one insured I have mine insured for 25k and I drive about 3000 miles a year. INA had a booth at the HOT ROD power tour in 2003 and they were looking for new business. They have a web site just use a search engine it will pop up.

does anyone know if the gear set out of a 92 pathfinder will fit the r200? I currently have 3.70 and in 6th gear at 70 mph is about 1500 rpm. I have found a set of pathfinder 4.11 gears on ebay they look the same but just cant tell by pictures. The 4.11 would work much better for my needs and I was thinking I have read somewhere that the pathfinder and trucks in the late 70's and early 80's had used r200 set up but unsure of the 92 model. can anyone shed some light on this matter?

I didn't use the adapter plates for my car. With the extra weight and the length of the plates to really set the engine back just wasnt feasible. I fashioned my own mount that is a tubular mount that goes under the engine and then is welded to an angle iron bracket that is attached to the frame rail. its very easy to make or you can buy a universal mount from speedway motors cut it to fit between the frame rails. I like useing the angle iron bracket for the mount to attach to because it also reinforces the frame rail. the bracket i used is about 12" long.

love the billet adapters! when will they be available and how much are you letting them go for? What do you do on the drive shaft side on the r230 is there an adapter to run a spicer joint like for the r200? Nice work!!!!

i HAVE A 396BB IN MY CAR DIMENSIONALY THE SAME AS 454 OR 502. THERE ARE SOME PICS POSTED IN THE PHOTO ALBUM. IT IS AN ORANGE CAR AND IS A BASIC STOCK CHASSIS CAR NOT A TUBE CHASSIS LIKE ALOT OF OTHER BB Z.

I THINK WITH THE POWER LEVEL I AM RUNNING IT IS FINE. IF YOU GET INTO THE 500-600HP RANGE I WOULD PROBABLY NEED MORE. I COULD EASILY ADD TO THE CAGE IF NEEDS IT BUT I DONT WANT TO CLIMB OVER BARS AND BRACES TO DRIVE MY CAR. I WANTED A CLEAN STREET MACHINE THAT PERFORMS WELL I THINK I HAVE ACHIEVED MY GOAL.

THE SUSPENSION IS THE BASIC GOOD STUFF. TOKICO SPRINGS ADJUSTABLE SHOCKS, I AM USING DELRON ALUMINUM BUSHINGS BUT RIDE IS FIRM BUT WOULDNT CONSIDER IT HARSH. I HAVE A HALF CAGE THAT GOES BEHIND THE SEAT AND THEN TIES THE REAR STRUT TOWERS TOGETHER I WILL TRY AND ATTACH A PHOTO. I AM CURRENTLY USING THE R200 REAR END WITH 3.73 RATIO I DONT KNOW HOW IT WILL HOLD UP BUT IF IT GOES I WILL PUT A R230 IN IT. I PUT 4 WHEEL DISC AND 18" WHEELS. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING A TRIANGLATED FRONT STRUT SUPPORT BUT HAVENT FINISHED IT YET. I WILL FINISH IT AFTER I DO THE CARBON FIBER HOOD SCOOP. AS FAR AS WEIGHT GOES I HAVENT WEIGHED IT YET. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH 4 WHEEL SCALES AND I WILL POST THE WEIGHT DIST. WHEN THATS DONE. OH ABOUT FENDER FLARES THEY ARE HAND MADE THEY ARE ALL STEEL AND ARE WELDED AND FILED TO THE BODY. THEY DONT HAVE ANY BONDO THE WHOLE CAR FOR THAT MATTER HAS NO BONDO. THE FENDER FLARES WERE MADE BY METAL CRAFSTMAN RON HANSEN IN TYLER. HE ORIGINALY STARTED THE CAR AND NEVER FINISHED IT. IT WAS IN BARE METAL WHEN I BOUGHT IT 3 1/2 YEARS AGO YOU COULD SAY IT WAS JUST A BASIC BODY. THE PICTURE OF THE CAGE IS TO LARGE TO POST SO I WILL HAVE TO TAKE ANOTHER ONE AND POST LATER

I am the one that built the orange BBC Z that you are talking about. It is a street driven car. No the firewall does not have to be cut up to make it fit. The car handles very well better than a stock z does with the suspension upgrades that I have done. Yes it is a little heavier than the sbc but being this is my 3 v8 z that I have built there doesnt seem to be alot of difference in handling than my sbc cars. The only time you really notice the weight is when you push really hard into a corner. And I am running cast heads at this time, aluiminum would save about 80 lbs. I built this car to drive on the street and not to just go drag racing. It has a full interior and a nice one I might add full sound system. 22 gal fuel cell 6 speed t56. 18" wheels for wheel disc brakes Adjustable shocks and tokico springs delron bushing and . dual exhaust exit into a single 5" tip. the car drives at 70 miles an hour at 1900 rpm gets mid 15mpg and has about 450 hp. Havent run the quarter yet but should be in the high 11s low 12s. The car hooks well and goes like stink. So if you want to stick a BBC in your z email me at firegrass@hotmail.com and I will tell you how to do it. I have 1 5/8 headers that bolt on right out of the box and the frame is not notched, or beat in, it is completely stock. I just built my own motor mount and did alot of measuring. The air cleaner does stick out of the hood but I am building a Hood scoop for it at this time It just wasnt ready for the car when these pictures were taken 3 20 04 at the San Antonio Z sport car show. So don;t listen to all these people, they are making judgments on things that havent fully checked out. It is very clean install. I have some engine pictures in the general photo ablum. check it out for yourself. Heck I get even change the spark plugs in under 5 min. Loren

I used a magna flow on my z with 2.5 tubing. The muffler I used is a dual in and dual out that has a x pipe built into the muffler. I mounted it in the drive shaft tunnel it is tucked in there nicely and doesn't hang down so that i scrapes everthing. It has a nice deep throaty sound, but not any resonance you get with flowmaster. Check out the magnaflow web site and you will see the two size mufflers of that two in two out style, they also have sound bites.

that ls1 is a sweet set up. Do you know what the weight difference between the ls1 and the 6 . Im thinking LS1 on my next car. Hope my wife will stay around. LOL

Cable or hydraulic: which way to go on clutch linkage...
BBC Z replied to gwheeler's topic in Ford V8Z Tech Board
I like the hyd. throw out bearing to. but they do have a down side if it leaks or you need to adjust it you have to pull the tranny to reshim it. I used a HOWE hyd bearing works great second car that I have used that on no problems. -
thanks for the info I will give them a call.

does anyone know of a company making a carbon fiber hood for the early z cars?
-
hey I agree that we all have to start somewhere. I wished I had some of this info available when I did my first car It would have saved me from making alot of mistakes. Just having people to ask for help is a great asset, believe me I gather all the info I can from whoever I can when I start a new project. And sometimes you just have to use your own noggin because no body else has the answer you need.

agree with the budget deal I built my first car in 91 when I was overseas. I had the car state side at my dads house. I mail ordered every part crate engine, performance trans, suspension, brakes conversion kit wheels tires seats interior. I came home on 2 week vacation and did the conversion had on the road. took it to the paint shop and picked it up 10 months later when I came home. I spent about 15k in total drove it for 5 years it had about 12k miles on it and sold it for 4800.00 to help build a house. So you dont do this for the economic feasability. you do it because of the creative aspects, do something a little diffterent and turned heads almost anywhere you go. On my current project I thought I could do this one cheaper if I shopped around didnt get in a big hurry. This car has big block chevy(hint this does not save you money big block are alot more expensive than small blocks.) I worked on every bit of my car from building the engine, custom built engine mount custom clutch, stripped, sanded, welded holes, rewired, primed ,painted, buffed, spent coutless hours surfing ebay for bargains pieced my car together with hundreds of hours of work countless ass chewing from my wife. And still spent almost 20k on it. But you know what I had a blast doing it. It is fast, fun and looks good too. Besides what are you going to do with all those carzy ideas bouncing around your head if you dont put it in something 3 dimensional. Heck I could build another 15 zs in different configurations that stuck in my head and that doesnt count all the other cars I like. What I have determined is life is to short and I dont have enough money, I better get back to work!
