  1. THere is no sealant required on tha outer stirp to the body right? just the outer strip to the frame?
  2. So I have the quarter window put together with new rubber, but I can't get it to fit onto the car. Anyone have any idea on how to get it in the rihgt place? The weatherstrip seems too big, and when I push on the window, the rubber grips the body of the car and starts ripping off the window frame. Any help is greatly appreciated, trying to get this car done this week.
  3. I am in for fiberglass one, would like to see the options though (I mean rounded edges, tapered edge). From the pics, I think I like the square edge. By the tapered leading edge, do you mean the side (red circle in Rtz's above pic) or the middle part of the spoiler? Any time line on this, because my money has a tendancy to disappear.
  4. People familiar with rattle can paint, such as rustoleum or krylon, how do I get rid of the streaks you get when painting large surface? If I need to reapply paint, can I only do it to the portion that needs it (it is a continuous surface, but only a part of it has streaks). I've tried some polishing compound on a cloth, that does little to nothing. Any suggestions?
  5. This was done with rustoleum vinyl paint. Obviously the red stripe is not vinyl paint.

  7. Does anyone know how to remove the review mirror on a 1973 240z? I can't figure it out, and the maintainence manual I have doesn't cover it. Thanks
  8. I appreciate the responses, but I don't think I'm being clear enough. It can keep acclerating past 5000, and it is in 3rd gear. Is this top speed just the limit of the 3 speed? Any cheap fixes? I've been looking for WC T-5's but most I find are Ford's, which dont work with GM.
  9. Nothing happened, I just didnt want to keep pushing the 40 year old motor past 5000 rpm.
  10. Hi, right now I'm in the process of rollering my 240z with Rustoleum, and fixing up some other things. One thing that has been bothering me is my car's top speed. It has a 327 sbc with a TH350 trans. I took it to the track about a year and a half ago, and about two thrids down the strip, I was at 5000 rpm, going only 85 or so mph. I haven't had the time to mess with the drive train or do much research, with college and jobs and volunteering and everything. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  12. Hey, I havent touched the suspension on my sbc 240z yet. Whats a cheap way to lower my car? I'm looking to spend less than 1000, the less the better. I want the tires to be under the fender or just touching the lip. Not literally touching, but you know. Also, these parts have to be avaliable. Thanks for the help

  15. Hi, I want to get my Z painted this summer after I get out of UCLA. I was thinking just a black primer. How many coats would I want, and would places like Maaco do? And, how much will that run? Also, my rear hatch does not align with the body on maybe the last 2-3 inches. It's like something is just pushing the hatch up. How would I go about fixing this? Thanks for all your input, Wilson
  16. Hey, you dont know me, but is there a chance you can help me find a 5speed manual tranny for my v8 z? all i can find on ebay are ford t-5's, and they go for around 1k, which is a lot compared to 850 for a t-56, right? ty for any help, wilson
  17. i wouldnt get it. youd have better luck going to a japanese or nissan auto-recycler/dismantler. I foudn a r200 rear diffy with the good gear ratio (forgot wat it was, lol, this was last summer, but i never took it out) 300zs dont have much that u will need for ur 240, as far as i know.

  20. my z leaks water into hte under seat area. I dotn know where the leak comes from, but i know that my hatch weather stripping is completely messed up. any idea of a fix for my leak problems? also, my hatch does not close flush with the rear end of the body. the hatch sticks up over the body about half a cm. it is flush to the body near the hinges. ty for your help, Wilson
  21. Hey, I just got into my 2nd quarter here at UCLA, and havent had much time to mess wif my z. I wanna get a new transmission b/c i went to the track over the summer, with a scarab setup and turbo350 on a 327 SBC, and i reached redline (5000rpm) in thrid gear less than 3/4 the way down the 1/4 mile. I was at about 95mph, which is extreeeeemly slow. I really like driving my 5speed 3000gt, but i c a lot of people using autos for their v8 zeds. Ive been looking at t-5's and 700r4's. I cant seem to find a gm t-5, just ford mustang ones. What do I need to do to convert to manual? Any suggestions on trannies or where to find one? My mechanic friend just finished converting my scarab to JTR. I also had new headders and full exhaust put in. motor is stock. I only need some street drivability. Ive tried looking for posts on the t5 already, and have learned some info. ill be wanting to do this project maybe during the summer, after my college expenses stop increasing exponentially. ty for any help, Wilson
  22. Hi, my car is currently a chevy v8 327, 1973 240z. The conversion was done in the late 70's, and it looks nothing like the JTR conversion. The motor is mounted on the wheels as opposed to the JTR way, all the way at the firewall. It also has a turbo 350 tranny. I want to do a JTR conversion, and i was wondering what i need to do to the tranny/drive shaft to move the motor back with the JTR kit. Do i need a new tail housing/ other things, or can i just cut the driveshaft, and move the tranny back, and weld the shaft back on? Thanks, Wilson

  24. is a t5 tranny a good choice for my v8 z? how does it fit? i am currently moving my engine back with the JTR motor mount kit. does it fit well under my z? also, is there anything i should be aware of about the t5? thanks
