  1. Definitely check out the classifieds on these sites: http://ratsun.net http://www.the510realm.com http://dimequarterly.tierranet.com/ Lots of other good 510 info on these, as well.
  2. Pretty crazy. I watched the hell out of kung fu growing up.
  3. This weekend, I completed installing my alpine cd player in the goon. This part was pretty much bold in, based on the trimming I had done on the panel already. To go with the cd player, I installed a set of polk audio mm6501 component speakers. This was the fun part. I didn't want to cut the doors up, so I decided to use a set of universal kick panel enclosures, like I did with my 240z. I matched these up to a set of replacement kick panels for the dime that I picked up on ebay. I like these better than the ones on my Z, as they're a 2 piece design that allows you to hide the bolts/screws/whatever that hold down the panels. With the speakers installed: And all wrapped up on the passenger side: I'm still undecided on rear speakers when it comes to size. I'm definitely getting polk audio, but not sure if I'll get another set of components like the fronts or go with 6x9's. I'm leaning towards the 6x9's. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll need to cut up the rear panels to install them and I'm not too crazy about that. I'm pretty happy with the results so far. The sound quality is pretty good, even driving around with all the windows down. It will definitely be better with some rear fill, though... And I need to vacuum out the car...
  4. Something that goes around at my work on occasion: After every flight, pilots for our company fill out a form, called a "gripe sheet," which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by our pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers. P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tire. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft. P: Something loose in cockpit S: Something tightened in cockpit P: Dead bugs on windshield. S: Live bugs on back-order. P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground. P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. S: Evidence removed. P: DME volume unbelievably lo ud. S: DME volume set to more believable level. P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick. S: That's what friction locks are for. P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode. S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode. P: Suspected crack in windshield. S: Suspect you're right. P: Number 3 engine missing. S: Engine found on right wing after brief search. P: Aircraft handles funny. (I love this one!) S: Aircraft warned to: straighten up, fly right, and be serious. P: Target radar hums. S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics. P: Mouse in cockpit. S: Cat installed. P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer. S: Took hammer away from midget.
  5. Nicely done! That's definitely heavily modified on the rear piece, especially considering what it looked like when you got it. And the side skirts definitely look much better without the upper portions. Very cool. I'll need to consult with you on modifying a hood in the near future:mrgreen:
  6. I don't have the 260 at my place yet, so I decided to do a little to the wagon between showers and thunder. I decided to remove the underdash a/c unit and the am radio. I also trimmed the radio surround piece to fit a cd player (one that I forgot that I had): And, yes, more dynamat:
  7. Got some dynamat behind the driver's side rear panel. I also replaced the sidemarker lights and gaskets, and put on the new fender and rear emblems from classicdatsun. There's two holes at about the same level as the 510 emblem on the left side, but I'm not sure what's supposed to be there. I'm starting to think it may have been some emblem put on by a dealer at some point. Next on the list... I picked these up locally from hybridzer steve (the love of jdm): I'll pull the springs and start cleaning these up over the next couple of days. I'm looking into what strut cartridges to use and whether or not I'll need to section. This project may slow down a bit due to buying another datsun... I picked up this '74 260 without an engine or transmission (yes, this datsun thing really is an addiction). It was previously owned my my friend Paul and has already had a lot of great work done. I have my previous 377 that I need to go through and then it will go in this car. I just need to round up a transmission, shifter, and driveshaft and this car will be back on the street. It need some work, but has already had quite a bit done to it. I'll start another project thread on this one.
