  1. Guys i don't want to sound like i don't like tq..but i believe a good balance is ideal...also it's just a matter of what you like..hell, there Honda's out here knocking down modded Z06 vettes, and the local viper guy...does that mean Honda motors are the best...nope..(god I'm glad!! ) For me this is what I'm aiming for my 260z. A 1jz making about 400whp @ 7500RPM 400wtq @ 4200RPM in a 2500lb car; i believe thats a good balance...So after market cams are out of the question, cause i would just loose low end tq...I've read that 2jz cams installed on the 1jz helps low and high end power... Op, what is your budget??? do you like that classic rumble of a V8, or do like the scream of a import...I like both....Some day i would like to build a twin turbo fuel injected Chevy 302 or 327..well see
  2. I'm guessing 300whp, it pulls hard. here check this link... http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=229717 You have to drive a rotary powered car to truly understand it...it turns quick and hard..I agree, if your aiming for that type of power..then ls1 is the way to go, might even be cheaper in the long run...The fear i have with a ls1 in a light car is traction, or lack there of Making 350-400 ft tq @ 3000 rpm will be hard to control in a light car....
  3. You were kidding??? well my brother has a turbo II, 60-1 turbo with supporting modds making pretty good power... i won't say how much cause he hasn't taking it to the dyno yet..if i had to guess, i would say around 300hp at 12 psi...and in a pretty light car (2600-2700lbs) thats damn respectable...If you know the Ends and outs of the 13b, or any rotary for that matter, it's a potent power plant...not to mention it prolly weighs half of what "L" motor weigh..The down side is..you have to be light and with pretty good gear(4.11 stock turbo II) cause the tq curve is very high up...on the plus side it will scream to 9000 rpm all day long!!!
  4. Not worth it to you...but i build the engine that i like.... i choose on sound, power band, reliability, tech, money....etc Ive seen all these motors make 600hp on pump but two... the rb25 and r26...the rb25 won't hold 600 on stock internals for long...so Ive heard.....I was suggesting to the OP that it'd be cost effective to build upon a engine thats already fast...don't know about you but swapping in a stock engine and running high 11's low 12's sounds cost effective to me...just a suggesting though....you can make any engine run hard, so it's really up to what you look for in a engine!!! best of luck...
  5. I haven't bought my 1jz yet...if something goes wrong and i don't by a 1jz...then I'm looking at doing a RE13bT (from a third gen rx7..255hp) or just begging my brother for his spare turbo II 13b parts, adding to it and use that....well see. If you are building this car to be reliable and fast, i suggest staring out with a engine that is already quick in stock trim.... LS1,2jz,1jz,rb25,rb26..etc All these motor make or can make 300hp+ with little modds...my 2 cent...
  6. Can rev higher? from everything i have ever read.. the rb20 is the rev king..8000 rpm out the box...the sr20 needs head and valve train mods to do the same...right?
  7. Hate to thread jack, this could help....My z has full red tail lights, and back lights on the tag portion..does this also mean it's a early 260?
  8. Im thinking about doing a Geo metro (1200lbs)...Thats after my 1jz swap... Only problem is i might have to make it 2 seater cause those cars are small...no room for bat.
  9. Mind if i asked what size IC you have...31X12X3?
  10. On something as old as the z, they will inspect the engine..? Where im at (nc) all my guy does is check the lights, see if i have a cat, window tint and tires...then your off!! Thats everything thats pre 1996....
  11. Hate to sound like a kid but "do you have any more Vids" im a sucker for stuff like this
  12. Stop the press!! I have the answer here..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Other-Makes-Xebra-Brand-New-Fully-Electric-City-Car-Speeds-up-to-40-MPH_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6472QQihZ011QQitemZ320239163394QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  13. I saw something on tv called "Future car part 1-4"...I think one of the guys there said that laptop batteries are the best, because there are light and can withstand a lot of abuse...Downside, they are expensive..
  14. I used to be about peak tq when i was building my Starion, the 2.6 4 banger in that car makes huge tq..in stock trim 188hp 235ft pounds @ 2500 rpm ...problem is , the motor runs out of steam around 5000-5500 rpm.. Before just blinding wanting tq be sure you know what type of car you are building..If you have a light car a lot of low rpm tq can be your enemy..Theres a couple of Honda guys local that spanks vette all the time, and those motors don't start making good tq( if there such a thing) until 5-6000 rpm...Rule of thumb..If your light 500hp 400ft pounds If you are heavy 400hp 500ft pounds....
  15. Cool Make history man!! I love it when people think out side of the box....
  16. "This works out to 156hp, but several hundred ft/lbs of torque" If you can make power like this, why is big companies having so many problems??? I think i know, but i hate to think it's true....
  17. Just found some....1jz here i come... http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/electrical.htm
  18. Im wondering has the OP ever driven of rode in a turbo car before?
  19. That caculator is pretty close give or take a couple tenths..
  20. Which is one of the reasons i want to do a 1jz s30 swap..stock 1jz power will get 12's in a 240z...the other reason being these are kick a** cars!!
  21. S30 2400lb 375whp 10.8 1/4 mile C6 Z06 3200lb 475whp 11.0 1/4 mile according to this http://robrobinette.com/et.htm
  22. Maybe im lost here...but why would you want max tq in a car thats so light?...
