  2. Thanks, im not gonna lie some times i feel like i should have chossen a s13 240sx, cause i have to update everthing from brakes to suspenison...but then i think about how speical a s30 is and i feel all warm inside!!!
  3. My dad had this eletric fan laying around near the shop so i snatched it up, all i know is it works good( I did the old battery and two wire trick to test it:mrgreen:)...not sure if it will be enough to cool the 1jz though, well have to see!!

So far I'm done prepping the engine bay to receive the engine, the custom cross member is welded in and the engine bay is ready...I know, i know slow progress..my brother does all the welding for me and i rarely have two days off in a row, so it hard to get things done..money is a factor also.. Anyway i hope to set the engine in for good next week, i had to order a clutch from auto zone($40). next year or so I'll do a full stage 3 clutch system, for now i just want to get it running...I just ordered my intercooler off ebay 31X12X3 along with 2.5in IC piping...should be plenty for 400-500whp for now here are some pics of some goodies...more later!!

You are the man and i like to challenge you, so i can learn...but there are more reason than just peak hp or tq when choosing a engine..what about cost, reliability, capability with curb weight???? I seen guys run 500wtq v8's ( @3000rpm) and i can tell you, it's not good for the street or daily driving...My dad swapped a 350 in a 1g rx7 back in the day. he was running 12:1 compression, mild cam, and aluminum heads, the car was like it was on ice running 11in wide tire and rim....Sure you can fix these problems with suspension or 4 link set ups..thats out of my league and probably most i would guess..point I'm trying to make is there's nothing wrong with making power up in the power band if you are light...i've seen dynos of 1jz making over 500hp from 4500rpm-8000rpm..thats awesome...sure @ 25+ psi, but the 1jz can handle that no prob..Stock internals!! Which brings me to my other points. cost and reliability i paid about $1900 for my 1jz. 1jz are nearly 300hp in stock trim and hold up to 800hp on stock internals( from what i read, never done this my self)....so i figure with the right turbo and mods you can have 400whp for $4500-$5000...pretty good in my book...a ls1 will cost you around 5 grand just for the motor and manual trans and thats only 350hp at the crank...Theres no doubting the ls1 has way more potential, if you are trying to reach that, than i agree it's better to start off bigger and badder.... If your car is not set up to harness the tq a turbo ls1 or any other 8v will make, whats the point?... thats the reason there civics out there killing people with only 300whp..peak hp to weight ratio wins... Any way sorry the tread jack, holset turbos are like the secret that everyone know about now... about 4-5 years ago people were giving these away 100-200 bones!!! now look to pay aroung $400 for a good one, which is still a good deal...i have seen DSMs making 400hp+ with the HX35....Just be careful what rear hosuing you get cause it reads in CM..for example rear housing are 12CM, 14CM up to 20CM...

  9. you guys are running huge tires...255 17's thats a pretty big tire..maybe a 235 or 245 would cure your clearance issues..
  10. I never heard of anyone having cooling issues in a z, i have heard about issues in the 240sx, but like already said, there is way more air travel in a z than most cars..Plus the z already has a 3 core rad..A nice and clean stock 3 core z rad should work fine..
  11. Are those the ones from ebay..the 513's....i like those also...i would love a set of rb-r's but that might be out of my price range right now...I'll be doing all i can just to get it running for now...

If i did a american v8 in a s30, it would have to be a ls1/ls2 or maybe a lt1...the the rest of the v8's just seem to lazy for my taste....tq every where thats cool, buts what if a want something that screams at 7000-8000rpm....To me thats the essence of a jap car, they scream...which is some of the reason im not feeling the 350z...cool car but the 3.8 is such a drone... I take that back, i would love to see a DZ chevy 302..or a turbo charged chevy 283...
  13. The sound of the 1jz, is one of the reasons i choose that...Depending on your power goals, any of the engines you choose would be good...

  19. Well what do you plan to do about it? for that type of money i would take the mounts back and have them modified..
  20. Well i don't have power streering, so don't know about that...If the 280zx is anything like the s30(240z,260z,280z) than you need a rear sump(or mid sump) oil pan...As far as the hood clearence, the 2jz is a littler taller than the 1jz...who made your mounts?

Thats wasn't meant to be sarcastic, it was meant for you to think about what you are really saying...the meat and potatoes...If you do a search on ebay manifolds on supras you will be hard pressed to find a lots of bad feedback...Of course if you have the extra cash, it really doesn't matter does it? For me it's going to be a ebay manifold, or Drewgo manifold...

  23. It would be cool if you could some how design it to also work with 1jz..something like a interchangeable center section, or interchangeable runners, flange..??? Awesome gfx though!!!

Well here is the cross member...some may think "wow what a Frankenstein looking piece" but i like things that are strong and fuctinal...i can assure you that this is not going anywhere:grin: i may clean up the welds a little and paint black...all in time..today i hope to finish the trans mount, which I'm going to make from the stock s30 trans mount...cost to make this crossmember? $20 8 foot long 1.5in box tubing... all other materials my dad had laying around the yard...
