  1. Those were some sweet vids, I was really surprised that the Civic was only losing a little ground to the Viper, I was expecting it to get blown away. It's unbolted as far as the exhaust is concerned, that pea shooter out the rear is just for show, you can tell by the way the exhaust sounds and how much spool noise is there. Sounds very similar to my friend's EX turbo when he unbolts the muffler. John
  2. I have a SSQV HKS bov on my ZXT, it's the loud high pitch sound. I don't really like it, so I changed the fin insert to a purple one, and it made the pitch lower and deeper... more pshhh than peeef. The HKS can be plumbed back, you have to buy a kit from HKS to get it plumbed back, but it's expensive for a basic kit, ~58 bucks the last time I checked. Anyway, if you want to vent your blowoff to the atomsphere without the hesitating/super rich a/f for a few seconds thing, see if you can get ahold of an HKS EIDS unit, they sell for about 100 bucks in Japan and allow you to vent your blowoff without the backlash of problems. John
  3. Tim, Can you post a pic of either the billet or cast aluminum spacer? I'm kinda interested in purchasing one since I have a tb but no spacer yet. Figure I should start to get my parts ready for this summer's work. This might sound kinda dumb, but what's the difference between cast and billet aluminum? Thanks. John
  4. It could be the AFM, one of my friend's car had the same problem I did but his turned out to be a bad fuel pressure regulator. Other than that, the only other things I can think of are bad connections with the ECU (it happens), or maybe a TPS but I'm not as sure on that one. John
  5. Greddy makes a harness kit I for the Z I think, just that's way overpriced, like 45 bucks! Otherwise, yeah it's like how yo2001 said. There's also one more wire that ties to the e-brake to prevent engagement too. Not too bad at all. John
  6. Is that thing you were talking about in the first post a black fan with two plastic air outlets over the valve cover? You can remove that for your oil change if you want. It's just a fan to prevent vapor lock on really hot days. I don't even know if you need it, here in San Diego, the weather gets pretty hot in the summer and I've yet to see this thing turn on. Anyway, I hope you got the filter off, last time I borrowed a friend's driveup ramp to get under the car and did it. John
  7. You might want to check for vacuum leaks, and check the air flow meter. My ZXT had a problem of not being able to get past 4500 either, and it turned out the air flow meter was bad. Now it revs fine and no bog which makes for a great drive minus my post below this! John
  8. The thing that was run over was one of those wooden pallet things that forklifts use to stack stuff on top of, and what people use for bonfire wood. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try to check the car out tomorrow, the crate as far as I know didn't get hung up on the car, although it bent my rear crossmember a bit. Nothing else that I could see that night. John
  9. I let my bro borrow the car last weekend and he said he ran over a pallet that fell off the back of some pickup in front of him. He ran over it at about 40mph, and we had to limp the car home. I noticed that for every rotation of the driveshaft or wheels maybe, there was this clunk sound... The faster I go, the faster and louder the clunk. Sounds like a jack hammer at 25 mph. What's weird is that going up a hill or turning left, the noise wasn't as bad or would disappear a little. Going right or downhill, the noise got unbearably loud. I haven't had a chance to check the car out yet, but my thoughts are these: 1. a bad carrier bearing 2. bent driveshaft 3. broken or bent axle? Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions or comments for fixes? My Z is 82ZXT a/t. Thanks for any help.
  10. Have you ran into any other old school Z racers over there? In particular two, one has an L28 bored with triple Solex's (Mikunis I guess is the other name) it was an ugly brown and had a huge autometer tach in the middle of it's dash, and the other is an RB26dett swapped one, it's black. The brown one is my cousin's friends car. I miss going to Aja and stuff... Anyway very nice Z you have there!
  11. You can also check your spark plug gap. I had the same problem and gapped mine a tad bit wider. (.044 to be exact using splitfire plugs) That cured the detonation and my car runs fine. My car is a 82zxt.
