  1. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look around for that plastic piece later today after I get back from class. John 82ZXT
  2. Oh, in case this helps too, my car is running stock EFI, it's an a/t ZXT, with a t3/t04b turbo. Time to go back and watch Monday night football and relax some! John 82ZXT
  3. I recently posted on zcar about some help on the SVO injector installation (thanks Spork if you're on this forum), and I got them in. I adjusted my AFM 18 teeth like I read in another post somewhere, yet my car still doesn't want to idle. I tried 18 teeth from the front tooth that I marked, then I tried 18 teeth from the back tooth that I marked from the stock position, yet the car does not want to idle still. When I adjusted it the first time (18 from the front tooth), the car idled a little rough and would sputter some with vacuum reading about 300mm Hg. When I adjusted it from the back tooth, the car idled worse even though the mixture was leaner than the first adjustment. The vacuum reading was lumpy ranging from 180-320 mm Hg. The car would practically die when put in drive. It was almost as though I had installed a massive cam in the car. For those of you who are running with 370's, how much did you adjust your AFM and did you have to do anything else besides that? Thanks a great bunch in advance, I can not wait to get the Z back on the road, it's been 3 days now and I'm in "withdrawal"!
  4. From what I've read and experienced, anywhere from 80K-130K is the average lifespan. It all depends on driving style and how much you push the turbo. My turbo Auster Rtt back in Okinawa had the turbo last to the equivalent of 128K miles before showing signs of needing a rebuild. When I swapped out my T3 this past September, it had no shaft play or anything and it had 90K on it. I think it would be good to upgrade when you replace the turbo. Not too bad of a job as long the stupid downpipe isn't frozen on like mine was! John 82ZXT
  5. http://suprastore.com/hkssupafrair.html There are bunch more fuel controllers at this site, this is the one you were requesting though right? If you want to make 300 hp, you'll need to upgrade at least to 370's to be safe. 270's will be stuck at max duty cycle and I don't think that's too good for the injectors. John 82ZXT
  6. Hey thanks you all for the info and links, they were very helpful. John 82ZXT
  7. I don't know if this is the right forum or not, but I was wondering what the ratio was if you wanted to mix toulene with your gas. How many points will it raise the octane rating? My last question is, is it safe? i.e. no side effects like harming the cat or 02 sensor. I have a test pipe for track days, but for everyday driving is it okay? Thanks. John 82ZXT
  8. As weird as this seems, check the harness that attaches to the key hole. Mine had worked a bit loose and would do that periodic run/cut deal. I just pushed it back on tight and it hasn't done it since.
  9. http://velocity.isfaster.com/v3/vehicles/okinawa/ken/ken.htm That's his Skyline. Now I gotta find his pictures that he sent me.... John 82ZXT
  10. Hey, my friend Ken (team Velocity) that lives in Oki (has an R31 with an RB20det swapped in, his was an n/a) took some shots of that same Z, I'll see if he knows more about that Z. He went that car show in Okinawa. Basically it was an "old school" hotrod day for all the Okinawans. Some sweet rides were there. I'll look for some of his pics... John 82ZXT
  11. I don't know if 82's and 83's are different as far as timing goes, but I'm pretty sure my 82 runs at 20 BTDC. I'll look at my hood again for the emission's info and see what it reads b/c I've never touched my timing. John 82ZXT
  12. Could be a sign of a dying fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, or maybe junk in the tank. John 82ZXT
  13. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it a lot. John 82ZXT
  14. Hey everyone, I'm finishing up my gasket fix and turbo change, and I'm waiting for some of my fittings to come in. They won't be coming until late next week or early the week after. However, since my Z is my daily driver and I need it for Monday, I was wondering if it's okay to bypass the water cooling part of the turbo for now and just let it be an oil cooled turbo. I would really appreciate it if anyone can let me know if it's ok or not. Thanks! BTW my turbo is a T3/T04B. John 82ZXT
  15. The only place I've used in San Diego for dyno pulls is the Dyno Shop in Santee. They have dyno days every few weeks and charge 40 bucks for 2 pulls. http://dynoperformance.com is the site. I don't know their regular rates though. Sorry. John 82ZXT
  16. It may be the MAF, check the hotwire to make sure it hasn't broken off any of the contact points as those wires tend to break. I don't have a MAF car presently, but my old 86 Auster with a CA18DET had that happen. It could also be a vacuum leak. Had that one hose under the throttle body that connects to the carbon canister come off and it made my car run pretty bad. John 82ZXT
  17. Hi everyone, I'm in the middle of fixing my exhaust manifold leak and decided to swap my stock turbo out for my T3/T04B that I've had sitting around for a while. It's a water cooled unit and I was wondering where you all have plumbed the water lines for the turbo and what size fittings you have used. Where did you guys get your fittings from? I was thinking of taking the inlet from the thermostat, but I'm not quite sure where to route the coolant back into the system. One more question, what kind of hose did you use for your water lines to the turbo? Is regular water lines okay, or f.i. lines, or did you all use stainless steel ones? Also, approximately how much hosing should I buy to get this plumb? Thanks! John 82ZXT
  18. If you can get a hold of an HKS EIDS you can vent to the atmosphere all you like without the rich problem, that's how most of the guys in Japan are doing it. The EIDS splices into the AFM signal wire and corrects it anytime the signal has a sudden change such as venting the bov. I bought one while I was in Japan, but haven't installed it just yet. John 82ZXT
  19. Yeah, no i/c on the runs. Soon though, right now I'm replacing my exhaust manifold gasket (what a huge pain it is), and then I'll be looking to get the i/c done. For track days, I just throw in some super conc. octane booster and it seems to keep the car running fine. Dunno how much it helps, but for 5 bucks, I'm not complaining. However, on extremely hot days, I keep my max boost to .65 (~9psi). Anyway, I guess I shouldn't push my luck too much. John 82ZXT
  20. Bastaad, I think you'll be alright at 10psi with a small spike. I've run my car at the strip at .8BAR (~11.5 psi) and I have no detonation or problems whatsoever. I check my plugs every other week and they're good. For normal driving I leave my boost at stock settings though. Only at the track I run the higher boost levels. I'm using a Trust Profec B and it doesn't spike at all btw. John 82ZXT
  21. I ran one last weekend and beat his 1/4 time, but lost due to me sleeping at the light. On a positive note I did beat a Z28 Camaro that day. Timeslips for my car are here: http://members.cardomain.com/lifegrddude on page six. Ran that day with a full tank of gas, a set of tools and street tires set my street psi of 30. My 60' time suck though. Anyway, the 95-97 Mustang GT's aren't that fast. The newer 99> are mid 14 runners I think. Or at least every single one I've ran has been there. The older 5.0's I guess that depends on condition. My cousin must have had a factory freak cause his a/t with just flowmasters and 151K on the motor ran mid 14's. I'm hoping to race a guy here with a 5.0 m/t one, he keeps saying that Z's are rice and that a V8 is the only way to go... typical "domestic rice". I can't wait till I get back from Japan now to race him. If you're in San Diego and see a black 5.0 with a primer body kit on it, well, there's the guy. John 82ZXT
  22. How's your fuel system? Stock injectors might be getting maxed out. Check the plugs to see what the problem is too. John 82ZXT
  23. If you can get ahold of a Turbo Magazine from last month, (turbo blitzkrieg 4 issue) they have an article on the spray bar. Gave 20 hp to a Buick GN. Maybe I can just make a copy outta the article or something... I'll see what I can do. John 82ZXT
  24. Do you know if Sherco is still selling injectors? Just wondering b/c I've heard they only have a limited supply. I need a couple of injectors as two of mine are showing signs of ageing. Thanks. John
  25. Just out of curiosity, how's your popoff valve? I noticed on mine when I upped the boost using a boost controller that when the popoff valve was venting off, the boost needle was shaking a lot and wouldn't go any higher. Mine is stock and soon I'll replace the inner diaphram, but for now I'm limited to .65 BAR boost. Dunno the psi conversion. Sorry. John 82ZXT
