  1. i'm sure that would be ok with him. he is always willing to talk with anyone about anything. just e-mail him or me. knowlege is power and like in motors you can never have enough. i would like to think i'm pretty knowlegeable about engines and mechanics in general but i'm also not to proud to say that there is plenty i still need to learn. any time you want to chat let me know. sounds like i could learn a lot from you.
  2. grumpyvette: the author of that first article at chevymania.com is one of my best friends. him and i have put together quite a few sbc and bbc together. he really knows his stuff when it comes to chevy. anyone else that ever needs advice about a chevy shoot him an e-mail. he will get back to you. or if you want give it to me and i'll make sure he gets it. got to love those nextel phones
  3. may not be a bad idea. there was a lot of work that went into that car. i would have to think there had to be a donor car involved somewhere along the line. in any case that is a very nice car
  4. it is under the door on the rocker. thats what i figured. oh well for 200 bucks i can atleast pull off the good stuff and scap the rest. i also know where there is a 82' turbo 280zx for free. the only real problem with this one is it had an engine fire. other than that the body interior and drive train -motor are still good. i was wondering what rear end would be in it and would it be worth me dragging it home to pull it off. by the way nice job on your z. it looks like you have alot of time into it. you should take a lot of pride in it.
  5. i think that they are pretty nice looking. kinda gives it a more modern look. by the way the rest of the car is ok too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=600195198
  6. sounds like a drive shaft or half-shaft is out of balance. then again it may be your tires. at any rate something is out of balance or loose.
  7. i found a 76 280z today that was $200. the only major problem with it was that there was a lot of rust under the passenger side door. apart from that the body was pretty strieght. is this a big concern with these cars and hard to replace, or is it not that big of a deal? other than that it is a complete car and i think would atleast be good for parts.
  8. when you run a cam that may be large in a small ci inch motor it has a more defined idle to it. i run a cam in my 400+ ci sbc that would not be streetable in a smaller motor. the bigger the motor the less the bigger cam effects its street manners. if a certain cam is big for the 302, then it would in my mind be just right for a 351. with a bigger motor you can get more vacume than the smaller if they both run the same cam. cam science is pretty in debth though. you have to have a stall, gears, induction, and exaust all working together to get the full benifits of the cam.
  9. that has always been the problem with the 700r4. the 1st to 2nd shift was always so big. in a hevier american car say 3300lbs and up it is an issue when you get into anything over the 350 hp/tq mark. in a car as light as a zcar you shouldn't see a big problem. a friend has one in a cobra kit car weighing in at 2650lbs with driver and hasn't had a single problem. and thats with close to 500hp. the 700r4 should hold up fine with the standard performance upgrade.
  10. the miniram you are talking about is made by tpi specalties.it is the bad boy of the tuned port world. very good manifold with great flow capabilities. by bolting it up to a stock tpi 350 it will make 50 more hp. i think they make two versions of it. one for the pre 87 heads and one for the post up until the lt1 motor. i just built a new motor for my buddy with the fastburn heads and the miniram and it is a monster. on the dyno it made 539hp@6300 rpm and 528 lb of torque@3200 rpm. a real stud. the best part is that in a 91 model camaro it gets 21 mpg and pushes it down the 1/4 to the tune of 12.10's on the motor and 11.20s with a 125 shot. remember this is a car that with the driver wieghs in at 3867lbs. put this in a 2500 pound car with better traction then he's got and can you say hello to the low 10s-high 9's. the motor is a 383ci but there is nothing very exotic about it at all any help you you need to set it up let me know. i've used them both a couple of times before.thier web site is: www.tpis.com if you want to see whats possible with one http://www.tpis.com/art/TIIMini.jpg that motors gives me a stiffy just looking at it
  11. if it were me i would contact the company you bought them from and tell them you want a new complete set of what you ordered as a swap for the ones you just bought. make sure you tell them that you do not feel you should have to pay for the shipping since they screwed up twice. thats the only way i would feel that i was getting the correct part.

    700R4

i have a vigilante convertor from precision industries and it is AWESOME!!!!!thier link is http://www.converter.com/95gmtorque.htm . if you are intrested go to there and check them out. i dropped 4 tenths by putting it in. before i was using a b&m 3000 stall and i thought it was good until this one. both of them are very good on the street aswell. a bigger stall will help out even a stock motor as long as you don't get carried away with the stall.
  13. i've seen people use both with good success. i think in the end it really all depends on learning your individual tranny. i have a 700r4 with a nice convertor and a manual lock up and it does great. my friend builds tranny's and is making me a manual valve body for it. he made one for a friend and it felt almost exacly like a manual tranny "with no clutch". just because you run an auto does not mean you will lose in road racing. it ultimatly comes down to alot of other issues such as suspension, brakes, tires, ect.... i personally like the automatic for the reason of that lovely thing we call traffic jams. i don't do alot of road racing so for me it doesn't justify me switching to the manual. but thats why they make more than one flavor of ice cream. each person likes something different.
  14. your car is truely impressive.that has got to be one of the most awesome body jobs i've seen. i don't know how many other people have worked with fibreglass but to have it come out that streight and seamless is incredable. great job!!!!!! if you ever do decide to make a kit i'm sure i'll be on the list for one.

  16. yeah but she is only 5 yrs old. born a month befor we got married. i geuss my paw-in-law is a horny old bastard. anyway she's pretty laid back about stuff like that. besides she likes to take what ever i've got out and stroll on the guys every now and then. she say's she likes the look on thier face when they realize it was a woman that just spanked them. i geuss i just got lucky
  17. here is the kit i was looking at; http://www.reactionresearch.com/280yz.html i like the looks of it aswell. the biggest problem looks like trying to fab up some headlight assemblies. i'd was thinking of some type of retractable style similar to those on a porche 928. that way you would still get the round headlight look. who knows though. i'm about to be stroking my motor up to a 434ci sbc. i should have about 550hp and just as much torque. it will be mated to a built to the teeth 700r4 w/ a manual valve body kit and a vigilanti convertor. i just like the sound of a 200 + mph car. the best part is that i have full go from the wife
  18. i know i may sound a little crazy to think it but i'd like to do it. my big Question is what would have to be done to the aerodynamics/body to get it there without taking flight and keep it stable. i've seen a kit from vr engineering that looks like it could help. any suggestions would help.
  19. thats a great list. looks like someone did a little homework on that list. i'll be sure to print that one off thanks for the effort.
  20. what were the major factors in the diff. weights.i see that the 240,260,and early 280 z's all had the same wheelbase. was it in the bumpers and sound deadener that was used or is it in other places. how would someone go about getting the weight back down to the lower 2000 lb. range. i'm still a newbie to the sight so any info would help in my selection. i know were there are both a 72 240 and a 77 280. the guy with the 240 wants a lot more than the guy with the 280 so thats why i am so intrested in this. thanks biohzrd
