  1. I have a question for John Coffey after re-reading your Custom Wheel Hell post. You mention a center bore of 2.9 inches for your wheels. Is there any machining needed to be done to the wheels or hubs for a hubcentric fit? Looking at the hub it looks to be curved at the bottom where the center bore mates to it. My wheels will be used for open track and autocross.
  2. 48 years old but my two daughters keep me young. I have 2 Z's the year of my high school graduation. Class of '73.
  3. Sorry about the splinter! When you can I would like some pics. From pictures of other Z cars with old style plates running 1/2 of a degree neg. camber they did not need to go up that high. Are you below 5 inches ride heigth measured at the seam?
  4. Hi John B, I am about to install old style Ground Control plates on the rear to stand up my bias ply slicks. I had new style plates back there so I will have to weld in a new mounting area for the old style. Do you have a picture of your modified rear towers you could post?
  5. Visit http://sth2.com/Z-car/ to see what the current fastest FP Datsun Z in the nation has. I get my used slicks from Roger Kraus Racing shipped to me. They are much cheaper than new slicks and work great for autocrossing. FP is fun but lonely. I didn't run this year as I worked on my track car but when I do there is only the National champion BMW and a very fast 914-6 here.
  6. John Washington at Reaction Research was asking how many people might be interested in IMSA flares. Let him know.
  7. I believe those are the old IMSA flares and not 280YZ flares. Check out this thread for more pictures of those kind. http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=27100 Also check my personal gallery for pictures of both YZ and IMSA style.
  8. Man Dan, your car looks great and the lip on the rear fender to match the front came out nice. Looks like old school gas nozzles for you. No wimpy unleaded sizes.
  9. 16x12 with 5 inch backspacing is planned. 18x12 with 5 inch back spacing are on Ted Fisher's car on the Reaction Research website. Are there pictures of the Cleve's car you are talking about? Remember you would have 1 1/2 inches offset which might not make for optimum handling and steering effort but it sounds like you are already using these wheels.
  10. Too bad your car wasn't around for the IMSA folks to get some ideas, Terry. I also forgot about this wild street car from the 80's.
  11. FCV I sent you an e-mail and EvilRufusKay, I don't know anything about the Bob Sharp cars sorry. It looks like the 3 piece spoilers you always see.
  12. My midlife crisis version. Sorry I don't have or know photoshop. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=7671
  13. That is exactly what Dan Juday did with his Z. He used the front fenders from the Subtle Z kit and rear flares from the YZ. Look up his posts. His car is also on the Reaction Research website.
  14. http://www.reactionresearch.com They are called 280YZ flares. They require 12 inch wide wheels or a very wide track like GT-2 racecars use. (These were made for a GT-2 racer originally.)
  15. Check this out. Cary is still using struts because the car was originally built for a different class than E modified. http://photos.yahoo.com/cmcalstr
  16. Here is one in the for sale forum. It looks like they have been radiused out for taller tires.
  17. John, why dont you do just the flare part and not whole fenders like this racer from Canada did. Maybe you could sell it for less and there is less of a close tolerance fitting than a whole fender. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3412&size=big&password=&sort=7&thecat=500
  18. Here is a Bob Sharp car. http://ashautomobilia.photosite.com/Vintage1/85_Datsun_Away.html So it was a rule change to level the playing field! I wondered why the different rear flare widths in some of the pictures. Someone needs to start an IMSA website to chronical what little information there is about this wild series.
  19. Many of the YZ pictures are taken with a wide angle including this one of mine. In person I think the YZ rear is very good looking.
  20. I have not found any businesses selling real IMSA flares still. I bought a set of front fenders from an IMSA racer from the seventies. I also bought and cut up a 280Z with a street version of IMSA flares that is very close to the race cars. Any one is welcome to pull a mold off of the fenders in the Sacramento area. Doing it for resale might be a problem but I don't know the laws. I will try and get some pictures posted. If you just need IMSA pictures I can E-mail you some of the ones I have collected off the web.
  21. "my Dad was running a 1971 CAN AM McClaren" I went to Can-Am races to see the McClarens at Laguna Seca as a teenager. I would watch in awe as the big blocks would light up the steamroller rear tires emptying on to the straight. How lucky you are to have one in the family Tim.
  22. They are just over the big hill in Reno from me. Tire Rack too!
