  1. Socorob - Here's my experience... I helped a buddy put the hush powers on his '10 SS and they sound great (mellow, deep tone). I put a single cat back flow master (delta flow i believe) on my brother in law's '99 T/A and it sounds good too. I had a set of flow masters on a 2006 corvette and I liked the tone but they were a little loud for me (drone) on long highway trips after adding headers, cam, X pipe etc.. I bought the hush power muffler for the 240 because I like the sound of the hush power with out the drone of the older flowmasters. Not sure how the single 3" will sound on the 240 but will find out in the next 2 mos. The 3" hush power is small enough to fit in the stock z location.
  2. Zfan1 - Sounds nice! I like the exhaust tips too. What brand and size are they?
  3. Sunny - Thanks for the pointer on the nylon cup brush. I tried one out tonight and it works great! Much better than the wire brush and scotch Brite pads I was using on the floor pans and sub frame connectors. The cup brush scuffs things well for the next step - POR15.
  4. Looks good. What did you use to remove and strip the undercoating and paint? I found a needle descaler to be effective on the undercoating.
  5. Thanks for the info. Looks like the Miller 211 is a much better welder than many out there. According to Popular Mechanics the 211 holds a VERY stable arc. And was clearly the winner in comparison to 5 other welders.
  6. Sunny - What brand and model welder are you using? I've got an old Craftsman 120v with gas and a Tweco gun. Seems to run inconsistent - I get it dialed in and the welds look good (sound of sizzling bacon)then 2 seconds later it seems seems to go out of adjustment.
  7. Welds look nice. Lots of work. You work fast...
  8. The Speed Hut GPS sounds sweet. Unfortunately I bought the Cable X awhile ago... I'll give this a try and perhaps upgrade at a later date. Thanks for the input.
  9. BTW... Your car looks AWESOME. I noticed you live south of me. This is a long shot but I don't suppose you were the guy from Craigslist who sold me my R200 dif. about 1-2 years ago. The guy drove up from the Springs and hand delivered it to my garage! He was working on a 240 project at the time.
  10. Just noticed the picture I posted has a few photos of Datsuns stuck to the side of the lift. You may recognize some of the pictures - inspiration when "The Man" has got me down...
  11. Guys, The build is getting closer. Bad Dog sub-frame connectors are burned in, just waiting for warmer weather so I can seal everything up w/ POR15 on the inside/outside of the floor pans and install the suspension/interior. What's a good location for the speedo box? I'm considering mounting the box under the driver's seat. Thought I would jump ahead with the speedo box wiring/mounting plans while I wait for warm weather. Is the Cable X unit quiet? I've never used one before.
  12. Socorob - my '73 never had A/C and I have not fired my LS1 engine w/ the new A/C unit yet. I hope to start the engine in March and charge the A/C system. Work keeps me busy...
  13. I used the Vintage Air Mini Gen II too. My install looks simliar to 280zcar's photo above. Regarding extra room around it... Width wise there's enough room although the angle of the lines coming from the bulkhead fitting on the RH side of the firewall would become a little tigher and more difficult to run. The height is the big concern. The space from the trans tunnel to the bottom of the windsheild is a little tight.
  14. I used the JCI compressor and mounting brackets. All other parts were supplied by Vintage Air. I haven't fired up the LS1 yet so I can't tell you how the system works yet. Still need to install the fuel system. Work keeps me busy - I'm hoping to fire it up by April.
  15. You will love the Modine Hot Dawg... installed the 45k BTU last month. Wish I did it 6 years ago!
  16. I used all JCI parts. John provides good service and backs up what he sells should there be an issue. All parts bolt in as described and it saved me tons of time pulling the engine in and out multiple times to mock up and build components from scratch and hope fitment issues wouldn't pop up 10 steps later when trying to install steering linkage, exhaust etc. Like all aspects in life everything can be improved. It's much easier improving the previously developed leveraging lessons learned vs being a pioneer developing a path for others. I highly recommend the JCI setup. I feel it's good value for what you get and it gave me a HUGE jump start from where I would be without the parts. I made a few "improvements" along the way and won't be critical of such things as I wasn't the pioneer running a business helping guys like us out. Theodore Roosevelt sums it up well a quote called The Man in the Arena... Feel free to PM if you have questions.

    Thanks for the feedback.
  18. Zzeal - Thanks for posting the photos - the pan is the cleanest answer. I'll switch to the LS2 pan the next time I have the engine out. Until then square tube will do the trick.
  19. Ouch. I like the square tube. This is next on the list after installing the Silvermine brakes.
