  1. Well, yes and no. In appearance and overall purpose of design, it should unmistakably evoke its roots, but if you're going to build an entirely new car, you should build it to address the shortcomings of the original...not simply take the original and tack on a lot of bodywork and make subtle changes to make it look modern. Many 3D artists set up 2d images of what they want to produce on a flat plane behind their 3D workspace so they can get the shape right in a freeform environment. It's fairly obvious an S30 was used. In doing so, many of the S30's flaws that could be addressed in an entirely new car were retained instead of worked out.
  2. Case in point, here's an S30 overlaid onto the rendering: You'll notice he's actually extended the leading edge of the hood forward a bit. To his credit, the windshield has been laid back and the transition into the roof is smoothed, but the remainder of the car is almost completely S30 Z. A manufacturer would likely reduce the wheelbase, possibly between the cowl and front wheelwell, the 'nose' would be trimmed back such that the hood would not be the primary leading edge, but rather the bottom of the airdam - both due to aerodynamic and crash concerns. A steel piece that far forward would not meet current crash regulations, and polymer / foam pieces would be placed ahead of it instead. It's a neat concept. I really like it, but I know it would get severely bastardized by any auto manufacturer.
  3. This one might get TSed, or maybe merged with the other thread about it...but in the meantime, I noticed one major flaw with this design that would never make it as a manufactured piece: The side elevation of the car is almost dead to rights the same as an S30...complete with forward-angled overhang. Despite the great looking airdam, skirts and rear valence, it's got all of the aerodynamic curses of an S30 Z, including large front openings, exposed wipers and abrupt cowl / windshield transition, long front overhang, no spoiler, the same rear hatch angle and curvature, same hood length and curvature. For all its modern appearance, it's a heavily reworked S30. Which is all right, since it's just a digital model, but if it were to be used as a basis for an actual car, numerous things would have to be fixed.
  4. The 400 was easier on gas, actually, it just needed a little work. Pretty sure you did take that photo, and the one of everyone in the trunk...which I don't have handy.
  5. Even worse...one with a 440! (ignore the 383 pie pan, I thought I was being all sleeper keeping that on there)
  6. Some quick grass and leaf overlay & sprays from the local flora, and you'll be fully bubba'd. Looks sufficiently evil to scare a Sacto bureaucrat.
  7. Good lord...for that sort of dough, you could get a set of 3-piece custom built wheels pretty handily. I'm actually really tempted by Jongbloed's 204, 214, and 4-spoke 3-pc McLaren. If you're going to spend $1000+ on a set of wheels, get something made specifically for your individual car after you've got the suspension properly set up.
  8. Just watched the trailer, looks like the title character (a kidnapper / serial killer) drives an S30 in rough shape.
  9. Saw a guy at the end of a freeway exit yesterday with a 'ran out of gas - please help' sign. Right. Sure. Tell you what, we'll use MY gas can and I want to see your car and watch you try to start it first. It's a sad commentary on humanity when you can't even help someone that might legitimately be in trouble for fear of a scam.
  10. Wow...I've never really like turbine style wheels, but those look good. The spoke width and spacing are nice, and they look great in black.
  11. Wow, BUMMER. Didn't you just get those wheels? Think I'll check mine before I leave...
  12. Ya got me. I collect vintage clothing, mostly depression era and WWII. That was actually a casual getup that night, I wasn't wearing a tie!
  13. Right now, it's a rusty mountain bike that I got for free. I've got one car, the Z, and with gas going insane the way it is, she's been officially relegated to being driven only when absolutely necessary. Pedal power!
  14. I have worked retail...and yes, the idiocy is astounding. It's amazing what sort of questions and requests you get when you've got a wall full of firearms behind you. ...then there's the deactivated display pieces. NO, you cannot re-activate it, it will not fire ammunition, you cannot re-drill the plugged chamber to take smaller ammo, it's been de-activated to BATF specifications so it will never fire again. This was in a military antique shop that sold deactivated guns and antique firearms that were not considered live gun by law. No, we're not a gun shop, we will not take your stock blank and re-produce an 1860s Enfield buttstock to replace the one on your friend's rifle that you broke while you were horsing around with it...especially since you didn't bring the old one in to work from. No, we do not sell live smoke grenades. No, we do not sell 00 buckshot for home defense. No, we do not have any used Zyklon-B canisters and we never have and never will, go try to re-enact Falling Down somewhere else. No, we do not have claymores, used or new. No, we will not find or sell you switchblades. No, we will not sell you a set of brass knuckles. No, we are not Nazis, the sign on the wall that you walked past to get in here clearly stated that the items on sale are purely for collector purposes and we hold no political sympathies with any regimes portrayed, past or present. People suck.
  15. I've been trying to offload my old L28 and 5-speed for more than a month now. I get lots of 'Will you sell this or that part?' ...NO! I am selling a motor and trans! That's all the ad is for. I'm not delivering it halfway across the planet, either. Grumblemuttersomethingaboutflakes...
  16. I think the only part on that thing that's actually Nissan is the B pillar trim! Still cool.
  17. He's actually pretty well-dressed by modern standards. How often do you see a guy in a sports jacket, slacks, dress shoes and dress shirt and carrying a nice leather briefcase these days, especially in the tech sector? The full beard is coming back, too. Pretty cheesy delivery by both of them, though. And my S30 has a cupholder, it fits a soda can perfectly and it's even adjustable for the larger stuff...just pull the ashtray out!
  18. Ah, good...the stripe is where it's supposed to be! Nice work! Looks great.
  19. Yep...the Body & Paint section seems to attract these.
  20. 10 years ago you couldn't give an old Beetle away...now you can't buy a beat up one for $1500! Baja bugs are pretty capable little beasts if they're built right. Have fun with it!
  21. It all depends on the presentation and who's bidding...and in this case, one set is A.R.E., the other set is a copy. The auction with the higher end price had better photos and presentation, in my opinion.
  22. Got it tested. Bad sending unit. Thanks for the peace of mind! $40 fix.
