  1. Whats wrong with this deal? 2hrs left and nobody has bid on it!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2400410888&category=33727 I need one but am afraid.
  2. Spent 4 hours Friday hitting 15 junk yards and can't find a T5 for a SBC. Found plenty of v6 ones. Does anybody have a lead on a T5 for me? In Texas?? Can a V6 tranny be adapted? I know the bell housing is different and the splines. Is it a weaker tranny or the same? Please help, Don't make me us my TH350!!! Jeff
  3. Thanks Mike, What kind of idle to you get with the 278 cam? I like a little lope, actually I like a lot
  4. I've done plenty of auto repair and motor rebuilds, but not alot of performance stuff. I have a 350 out of a 77 vette that I am building upon (stock produced about 175 hp I think). Anyway, I would like to get 300 to 350 hp. Whats it take to get there. I am taking it to the shop to get it bored .030 over and will put in some flat top pistons. Can you acheive that kind of HP with stock heads? What cam and intake would you guys recommend. Keep in mind, I want to stay under the hood using JTR mounts, so no tall intakes. I know this is an open ended question with so many ways to skin a cat. Just looking for opinions. Thanks
  5. Thanks guys, what kind of R's are you turning at 60 mph? Can anybody give me a guess at what the going price is for this tranny? Better yet, anybody got one for sale?...In houston?....
  6. I am in the process of building my 350, target range approx 300hp. I have a TH350 from a 77 vette but don't want to use it because of the whole 3000 rpm at 60 mph thing. I can't afford a t56 right know so am considerinf the T5. JTR makes the T5 seem pretty lightweight. Is it that bad, or will it handle daily driving with an ocasional 2nd gear scratch? Would consider 700r4 if I could find a deal on one, but I hear they are kinda weak too. Please help, if anyone has a tranny for sale, speak up. Trying not to break the bank!!
  7. You guys are spot on! I am the master of the over-value scheme. I already twisted spending money into "saving money". From the projects inception, It has been "Ambers car" (my 3 yr old). I figure that won't bite me in the but for at least 13 years. Jeff
  8. I have spent the last year making my 76 look good and today I found, and purchased a 350 engine and tranny out of a 77 Vette for $100.00. Can't wait to get home and tear it apart. Yes guys, I've already ordered my JTR manual. Wish me luck. Let the games begin. How do I explain this to my wife..... Jeff Hickl
  9. It's not a good running engine, its a worn out dog. But, it is all stock never been bored out or anything so I will gut it and off to the machine shop we go. Jeff
  10. That sounds about right, but what ratio is stock?
  11. I have a 76 280 with R200 rear end. How can I tell what my gear ratio is without disasembly? Can anyone guess at what they "typically" are? I am trying to plan out my 350 installation. I have access to a T350 tranny for cheap, but am afraid that I will be turning way too many R's. Want to be a daily driver. Any advice welcome Jeff

    5 speed oil?

I just put a 5 speed in my 76 and am wondering what oil I should put in it? Thanks Jeff
  13. They have different connectors on them so I know which will plug in. What is the neutral switch for? Do I need to jumper it or can it just be left unplugged? Thanks Jeff
  14. Ok guys, I need some help again. I pulled the 4 speed out of my 76 to put in a 5 speed (I believe out of a 78) anyway, my 4 speed has two sensors, 4 wires connected to it. The 5 speed only has 1 sensor(2 wires). I figure one is the back up lights, what would the other be? Thanks for any input. Jeff
  15. Good idea, I haven't gotten back under there yet but I was thinking along those lines. I will take the tires off and see if that relieves some pressure. Thanks for the input. Jeff
  16. Ok knowledge base, I found a relatively new diff mount under my parts car and am going to put it in my good car (I had welded up my old broken one and dislike the noise, but thats a whole other thread). On to the question. I am trying to do it without dropping the Diff "again". When I took the strap off the nose and removed the bottom bolt from the mount, the nose jerked up towards the bottom of the car. I can't get to the bolts to remove the mount, nor do I think I will be able to pull it back down to original position if I get the dang thing changed out! Do I have to drop all the control arms and the diff "again" or can this be done with all that in place? Please help, knuckles bleeding. Jeff
  17. Dragonfly, thanks for the input I will test it this weekend. I ain't scared of mechanican! Nismo, drop me an e-mail, maybe we have some parts to swap. I probably live about 10 minutes from you. Jeff Hickl
  18. I don't think its that simple since it effects the way the car runs. Thanks for the input though.
  19. I have a stock (for now) 76 280. Sometimes, my tach will start jumping around erratically and basically double the actual RPM reading. I can be going down the highway and all of a sudden my tach reads 7000 rpm. I push in the clutch, kill the motor and start it back up and it fixes it. I've gotten so good at it that I don't even loose any speed. When it happens at idle, the motor lopes/lunges really bad. At higher rpm it doesn't seem to effect running. It seems to do it more often on really hot days. Any ideas? Thanks Jeff
  20. Mr. Tomahawk, When you say "you have some" does that mean you have some for sale??? I'm not sure I follow your instructions, but am interested. Jeff
  21. Like everyone else in the world, I hate the bumper that goes on my 76 280. The guys at Motosport (zcarparts.com) sell a fiberglass 240 replica front bumper. I understand that the mounts are way different. I called the guy and he told me that it will not work on my car, can't me made to work on my car, etc (quite rude actually) Have any of you guys put a 240 bumper on a 280? Is it that hard? Is there a kit made to adapt? I manage a machine/fab shop, so I'm not afraid of a little bracket building. Please help.
  22. Where can I get a fiberglass front bumper or bumper spoiler combo like Arizona Z car used to sell. I have a 76 280 with an air damn, but would rather die than put the 76 bumper on it. Will buy used if anyone has one. Jeff
  23. I took the rearend out of my 76 280 (r200) cuz I thought I was hearing things. Anyway, took ot all apart, looked fine, replaced seals, snugged up main bearing caps inside on rearend....and forgot to torque them. Can I get the rear cover off and torque these 4 bolts without dropping the rearend again? I looked at it and can't figure out how to get the mustache bar out of the way. I Hate working on my back.
  24. 390's, 428's? What are you referring to. Pardon my ignorance. Jeff
