  1. Thanks for the link, but I didn't find the info I needed. Anybody have the answer???
  2. Lets get technical for a minute. I am trying to determine if the injectors can be unclogged before buying new ones or installing the whole system and having it not spray. The injector is basically a cylinoid (sp) that opens when given the proper voltage. To bench test and clean these buggers I could apply the voltage and see if it opens and spray through it. Anybody know what kind of voltage this thing expects to see at the injector???? I know I'm reachin here, but I figure the injectors are pretty pricy so it's worth a little fiddlin. Jeff
  3. It has the control box with 5 dials on it. Choke, idle, mid range, top end and one more which I can't remember. It is probably a 10 yr old system. Does anybody now how much the injectors are in case I need to replace them?
  4. I was chattin with my nieghbor yesterday and he mentioned that he had let his old truck sit up for a year and had to put his old carb back on to get it running. As I am in need of a carb, I asked what he took off of it. Turns out he had a 670 cfm pro-jection fuel injection system on the 71 chevy pickup. Anyway, I took it apart an the injectors are just a little gunked up. We didn't discuss $$, but I think I can get it pretty cheap. What do you guys know about this system. My motor is a relatively mild, 300 hp if I'm lucky, sbc 350. Can list more details if necesary. Thanks for any input. Jeff
  5. Any recommended grade or brand of ATF for a T5?
  6. I indirectly asked this question on the V8 forum and it got bumped so I will re ask. I ended up with a nice drive shaft that is about 2" too short. It seems that I could (understand I work in a machine shop) cut it in the middle, insert a tight fitting sleeve and re weld 2 halves around extension sleeve to gain the 2 inches I need. Has anyone done this? Am I overlooking something? Any advise would be appreciated. Jeff
  7. I'm sure they could, but they would probably want money! I'm looking for a free solution . I guess I could lengthen it, cut it, sleeve it and weld it up. I do work in a machine shop and have a brand new wire feed welder. Anybody done this themselves before??? Is my first idea no good???
  8. I finally got a T5, bought it on this forum from ZLETTMASTER. Anyway, he threw in his driveshaft on the deal. It looks great except it is only about 18 1/2" from center to center of u-joints. Accord to JTR it should be 20 1/2. I guess he had an early 240 with the diff moved forward. Anyway, I manage a machine shop and could easily make a billet spacer to put between the diff and the driveshaft....Will this work? Are there any drivetrain laws of physics that I would be breaking? Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Jeff (getting really close to install now!)
  9. Thanks guys. Long it is then. I work in an oilfield machine shop so I have access to everything I need to fab brackets. Anybody out there done the factory ac hookup that could give me some pointers???
  10. Again I must show my ignorance. I have my engine basically built but have no accesories on it. I don't have any of the brackets for the alternator or even a waterpump. I am wondering if I should try to set up for a short or long waterpump and why. I am doing the JTR conversion if that helps. I am doing no smog stuff, just alternator and hopefully using my factory AC compressor to keep cold air blowing. Please help, this is my next step.
  11. I had my machine shop build my short block for me. I wanted to check the clearance on a few rod brg and main brgs just to check his work before I install this thing. I have some "old school" plastigage, but can't remember what the clearances should be and what the torque specs are. I know this is basic, but I haven't done this in 6 years and have a poor memory....too much beer. Thanks Jeff
  12. Where is Silsbee? I live north of Houston.
  13. just playing with my avatar
  14. What has a better overdrive ratio? 700r4 or T5?
  15. Anybody know the story on this outfit? Cheap prices. Crap or bargain?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2401380415&category=6770 I need some headers!! I posted in classified section but will repeat. Anybody got any for sale?
  16. Mr Grumpy Sir, would you just build my car for me. I now realize I am to ignorant to be turning wrenches. Just kidding, thanks for the in-depth information. I wish I had half your knowledge. Of course I would just forget it.
  17. I am building my 350 using a kit that includes a melling high volume oil pump. A friend of mine warned that he had probs with this pump emptying the oil pan at high RPM's. Anybody got any feedback on this? My motor will not be very radical (325 hp ish). What should I do? Jeff
  18. I wish I was 17 again (32)...."If I knew then what I know now....." This is great, I think you guys have split the decision about 50/50. I don't feel so bad about not making up my mind anymore. Keep the opinions rolling. One will finally convince me (or, someone just send me a tranny with a bill attached and I will put it in) Jeff
  19. You guys are all over the place! Would somebody make a decision for me! The auto would be better for daily driving cuz I do get in traffic everyday. I only lean towards the 5 speed for having the control of being in just the right gear/rpm range when that Honda pulls up. Nothing worse than an auto that shifts too early. I just don't know!
  20. I understand as much about setting up auto trannys as I do about predicting women's mood swings.
  21. I am about to ask a totally open ended, opinion based question. I can't decide whether to go manual or auto. I plan on driving daily, with about 300 hp. I can't afford a T56, have a TH350 in the garage but understand the gear ratio problem. Should I go manual or auto. I like the sportyness of a standard, an auto is nice for daily driving....Send opinions please. I am also not having much luck locating a T5... Dazed and confused..
  22. Thanks guys, I am blowing it off for know. See my next topic.
  23. Whats wrong with this deal, 2 hrs left and nobody has bid on ithttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2400410888&category=33727 I need one, but am afraid.
