What Tranny Oil Concoction For An Old Tranny W\ Weak Syncros
Heavy Z replied to slownrusty's topic in Drivetrain
Cody, nwc T5s do take gear oil. Read this: "ALL World Class T-5 use ATF oil and NOT heavy gear oil or Redline MTL! All NON-World Class T-5 use 70 wt gear oil. It is because there is no bearing under each gear and the bronze synchro rings that the NWC use the heavy 70w gear oil." http://www.moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/t5_history.htm -
What Tranny Oil Concoction For An Old Tranny W\ Weak Syncros

If it's for an L6 or a non-wc T5 then gear oil is fine. If a wc T5 then Amsoil, Redline, or Mobile1 atf all work well. -
I had the same problem in my Z. I even have a battery disconnect switch installed. Went all the way through it and finally found that my starter was for a 305. To turn over my 327 it had to work too hard and drew a lot of amps. Lights dimmed, slow to turn over, drained the battery eventually until it would just give a click and not start. I put in a gear reduction hitachi starter and it's never happened since.

A rivet gun will also work nicely.

Tanji, comparing Iraq and Germany is tough. Their circumstances and occupation were so different as to make their comparison more folley than a historical argument. As for the good point you mention about 'sticking it out,' we lack the collective frustration today as back in the latter 'Nam years so I wouldn't think we'll be leaving anytime soon. I don't think it'll be an issue of will-power as much as spending-power. Prospertity comes to us thanks to the nearly $2 billion a day we borrow. For how long is the question. The man who wrote that article is Reuel Marc Gerecht. Reuel Marc Gerecht is the Director of the Middle East Initiative at the Project for the New American Century, the same group that advocated an overthrow of the Iraq government in '98 whether or not Saddam was in power. He and his associates have had a bad track record when it comes to accurately predicting how Iraq would shape up. As the old saying goes, if the weatherman stinks try another channel... http://news.ft.com/cms/s/bb316aaa-7e2c-11d9-ac22-00000e2511c8.html Notice the stuff Gerecht left out?

What do you guys think about the results coming in? http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A21679-2005Feb13?language=printer "...the top two winning parties - which together won more than 70 percent of the vote and are expected to name Iraq's new prime minister and president - are Iran's closest allies in Iraq."

I just saw a show on the discovery channel that had this car in action, very impressive at over 1,000 hp. Leave it to Jay Leno... http://www.seriouswheels.com/top-1966-Oldsmobile-Toronado-Jay-Leno.htm

Unless you have a bad driving record you're getting hosed. I'm 34, 1 point on my record, $21 a month for liability w/ higher med and uninsured motorist coverage. The company I go with? How's this for an ominous name - 'California Casualty.' Good luck finding a break.

anyone run 302 or 327 chevys?
Heavy Z replied to HarrisonTX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Bilster, Thanks for posting and welcome, a few of us on this board have been interested in this buildup so it's nice to hear from someone that actually did it. I know you said "exact," but did you use the same cam as the article? Same 56cc heads? Same 11:1 comp? -
If I was doin it over and had the dough, I would look for something similar. With that ride you're like the blue whale of the car kingdom, wandering for years without seeing any of your kind. Something cool about that IMO. And, 1,800 lbs, tube chassis, V8!!! Good luck. P.S. Z's are fun, too!

Heavy Z replied to HarrisonTX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
At what point did they switch? I have a 327 from a '67 vette and it is just like a regular 350 with regard to the filler and breather. Another option you could explore is putting a large journal 327 cam into a 400 block using 6.2" rods. AFR did a build like this a while ago for around $3k and created an engine with 11:1 compression that ran perfectly fine on 87 octane gas. You could have your high-revving engine this way with an extra 50 cubes. Here's the article, the setup isn't exactly like what you're after but it may be helpful: http://www.airflowresearch.com/articles/article03/A3-P1.htm -
Looks like a bad scab, too bad they don't heal over time...

That is the holy grail of rearends you've stumbled upon. I think motorsport sells an internals swap that accomodates from 3.36 to 4.11, can't remember the price. Good luck.

I'm in the "dummy" category here, solid mount & mustache bar w/ urethane bushings. Sounds fine IMO. You will get more noise when there's driveline slack than a rubber mount. I've heard the FL327 story before, but he drove that car hard enough to peel back the frame rails up front (in a non-recoverable fashion) so the crossmember story doesn't seem too freakish in his case. Anyone else know of stories of bad things happening in mixed mount Zs?

Bartman - Thanks, the scoop is from a '69 Mercury cougar and yes it's functional. Works well if you need clearance for a tall single plane or (based on measurements) maybe even a B&M 144. Dot - Thank you and likewise on that V12 monster of yours. Vegas - Much appreciated, it's actually my daily driver. The paint isn't perfect so I don't really sweat parking lots and such. I have a '73 blazer too, but never drive it anymore. The Z is just too much fun:p Here is a link to more pics at ZPARTS.com: http://www.zparts.com/showcase/bl_V8-240Z/index.html

Right now Iraqi Shi'ites are cooperating - not because they like us, but because we're helping them use their majority to take over Iraq. All it proves is that Shi'ites can count. They've got 60% of the vote sewed up, and we're riding shotgun for them, absorbing all the violence the Sunnis can dish out, while the Shia go out and grab power by the ballot box.

And in other news... Iraq Army 'Severely Intimidated' By Resistance BBC News 2-5-5 Iraqi security forces are losing men because of "severe intimidation" by rebels, a top US general has said. Lt Gen David Petraeus, in charge of training Iraqi troops, said few of the 90 battalions were at full strength. He referred to incidents where soldiers returning from leave had been killed by rebels, but he did not say how many troops had deserted because of threats. In the latest violence, four Iraqi soldiers were killed on Saturday when their patrol was attacked in Basra. A booby-trapped motorcycle exploded near their vehicle in the southern city, an army spokesman said. The US general said 136,000 Iraqi soldiers and police officers were now trained and equipped. The US is helping to train Iraqi forces so they can eventually take over security and allow US troops to leave. Privately, officials say everything depends on just how tenacious rebels turn out to be - but the American public ought to be ready for their troops to stay in Iraq for years, reports the BBC's Adam Brookes at the Pentagon. But the US casualties continue to rise as well. Two US soldiers were killed and four injured in a roadside bomb near the northern Iraqi town of Baiji on Friday night, the US military said. 'Real challenge' Gen Petraeus said 88 Iraqi battalions were conducting operations. But he conceded that few of those units were at full strength. "Not all have every vehicle or piece of unit equipment," Gen Petraeus told Pentagon reporters via video link from Baghdad. Insurgents were actually cutting the heads off soldiers as they were trying to come back from leave "And some are still receiving replacements from combat casualties and losses suffered due to severe intimidation." He highlighted the particular challenge for US and Iraq forces in insurgent strongholds north and west of Baghdad. "This is an area where the insurgents were actually cutting the heads off soldiers that were trying to come back from leave and so forth," Gen Petraeus said. "It was a real challenge during that time but we've turned a corner with that and as I said, a substantial number of soldiers are heading to those units." Doubts But some independent analysts in Washington question the general's numbers, our correspondent reports. The Center for Strategic and International Studies says it has found that only handful of Iraqi police and military battalions are able to fight independently. US Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz told Congress on Thursday that Iraqi units, on average, had absentee rates of about 40%. The Bush administration has not given a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops. Following last weekend's election in Iraq, the US has announced it will reduce troop levels by 15,000. It expects to keep 135,000 troops in Iraq throughout the year.

The founding fathers also had the glorious revolution and magna carta to draw upon, and were heavily invested in the thinking that sprang from the enlightenment. It was a process that took hundreds of years to evolve from within, not from an external, and certainly not in 3 years. Let's also work to be consistent. For example, "general" Musharraf was deplored for overthrowing the democratically elected government in Pakistan, until he said he'd play ball with our invasion of Afghanistan. Since then his title has been magically transformed to "president" here in the US. Are we up in arms over this democratic tragedy? Of course we aren't, but would be if we consistently valued what we seem determined to bring to Iraq. Selective memory is problem these days, I guess it's a shame not everyone around the world is so forgetful...

Something funny I read recently: (A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000. ( Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000. © Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171. (Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services) Guns (A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is 80 million. ( The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500. © The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188. Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do." FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR. Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand! Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.
